The Sunee Plaza Cat, is now out of the bag?

My friend, a regular visitor, is on holiday in Pattaya right now and emails me that Sunee Plaza is just as bad as it has always been. It is going to take more than a few cosmetic changes for Sunee Plaza to lose it's well deserved reputation as the under-age sex and drugs centre for the gay community in Pattaya. If LMTU thinks otherwise he is either wearing rose-tinted spectacles or has been imbibing some of the drugs so readily available in that area.

Crap, it is not. It has been cleaned up a lot, and although it does still have the rough side it is a different place to what it was 2 years ago. It is your friend who is on something if he says it is as bad as ever.

I agree 100%. A few nights back the police were making house-calls. A night or two later they were visiting Pattayland Soi 1.

It will end up in higher prices/leases but the complex will stay much the same and might even improve.

I think your friend is basically correct. I have been here in Pattaya for about four months now and will be another several and have visited Sunee with friends from Bkk who wanted to go--it appears little different than the Sunee i have visited once or twice a trip over many year. Sometimes many of the bars have underage boys working, other times maybe not so many, but if you want them, from personal observation and friends' accts, they are fairly easy to find. Additionally, minus a few lads perhaps at Krazy, the vast majority of the lads are ladyboys, or effeminate to some degree--some very nellie, but not ladyboys and some that one would call "pretty" not handsome in a masculine or even boyish manner---some might call them boyish I know, but when they look more like young girls and behave with the same feminine mannerisms, hard to call them boys of any sort.

With camera crews and raids etc--welcome a real hell if you get picked up in a short time room there with some underage nellie. Anyone who can walk around Sunee and not see the underage street kids--read all the accts here and on places like ting tong, about drugs, etc, and then visit bars like Kaos, etc and say that underage kids are not working and readily available in burying their head in the sand!

It is mainly those that go to Sunee to look for the underage children that deny their presence in the area.

I guess it eases their conscience if they are in denial.

Reports of the imminent death of Sunnee Plaza and Pattaya real estate are greatly exagerated.

I go to Sunnee because it is more of an expat scene, the hanging around cafe society feel of the place, the more relaxed/less commercial feel compared to Boyztown, and the lower drink prices. Not interested in pedo aspect at all and wish it would go away.

i don't think anyone believes or has stated here that Sunee is on the demise--unfortunately, there is too much a market and money to be made by what some of the bars and streets there sell.

One can go there not for the pedo crowd and for the cafe style, but even that is pretty sleazy when you really take a look around at some of the outdoor establishments, there are some pretty sleaszy looking old guys sitting with some pretty young looking kids. Alsol you can talk to the ex-pat crowd, Raksiam, but the ex-pat crowd that I know do not really hang around Sunee.

Also, you cannot be sure of whom you are talking to there--all pedos do not look alike. Once, about ten years ago, I met this very nice Canadian fellow at the beach in Jomtien--we got to talking and he seemed very "normal" and friendly and we talked for several hours and then he told me that the next day he was taking his boyfriend of some of his bf's friends bowling and would I like to go along. I thought that sounded like fun. I went to join them the next day at the bowling place in north pattaya now near big c, and upon entering, I found him and a group already bowling in an alley and he introduced me to his boyfriend and his bf's friends--the bf looked like a waif of not more than 14 years old and the others looked to be in the range of 12-15--all nellie and screaming and putting on a bit of a show that was drawing the attention of other bowlers in other lanes--even ten years ago, this type of public display could get you in trouble at times--I made some quick excuses and took off--but this new beach friend was not someone I had thought belonged to the pedo crowd, so be careful--your associates or new friends can get you in a great deal of trouble because the police are certainly looking more than ever to make an example of those they consider pedos--guilt by association--absolutely!!

For those who have been coming to Pattaya for 15-20 plus years remember well how most bars had younger lads--in the 15-17 year range was not a big deal--but even then, some had much younger--20 years ago, I was shocked on my first ever visit to the gay beach at Jomtien to see what I would call packs of young boys--probably aged anyway from 9-15 running around the beach in little speedos and hanging around what I would call the German section section at the time (you could easily tell by walking nearby and hearing the loud discussions among those sitting in the beach chairs) and these young boys running about, with these old, fat Germans, many of them inappropriately in speedos also, fondling all these lads and the lads laughing and running about--no one seemed to think anything of it at the time--these young boys would be sitting on these guys laps with their hands down the speedos just like some do now in the Sunee bars with the lads.

Eventually, over the years, with pressure from the West, and newspaper stories and when the police started to realize that they could make good money off farang who liked the younger age, this started to change. These are not all secrets--anyone who spent time in pattaya in those days knew it existed just like anyone here now knows what exists in Sunee--it is not a secret to anyone, including the police--they will make their selective raids and arrests when it best suits them--just hope you don't get caught up in one.

So far I have seen a lot of writing but nothing that in any way makes sense to me. Sunnee is just what they say it is; and all the posting and arguing in the world won't keep the little boys away. When I was there last, Sunee had little boys sitting in the stage Jacking off with their shorts on. I was not impressed and left promptly. If it has really changed I would like to hear it from some one who recently went there and isn't biased in their opinion. I'm sorry But, I'm with Smiles on this one.

sammy is absolutely correct. that is the way it was all those years ago - i first came to ptya in 91. all true to the bone, incl. the so-called german section - although there were other sections too, like australians, french and americans.

thanks, thaba--for those of us around at that time, we saw it all, but times have changed, and I do recall a number of years ago--maybe anywhere from 5-7 years ago, accompanying a friend of mine to a bar in Sunee at saw what looked like 12-15 yr olds dancing go go on stage and also wearing white socks--we could barely believe our eyes--we did watch a few minutes and as we looked around could see other farang sittting with lads as young as that and appearing to be having a normal discussion of some sort just as one might at any other bar with legally aged lads (not legal age challenged lads)--we did not finish our drinks, paid our bill and left---it was not more than two or three days after that visit that the police raided that bar and it was either an American or British guy was caught in an upstairs short time room with a legal age challenged lad and was arrested. His picture was in the local English newspaper, if I remember correctly, standing outside the bar pointing at the bar's name on a sign--the bar was clsoed very briefly, then re-opened under the name Amigo, but by the same management I was told--but the farang's life, I am sure, was ruined--unless he had a lot of money to buy his way out???

As I understand variations of this might still be happening--good luck to any who want to think of it as Cafe Sunee--it is more Cafe Sleazy or Cafe Monkeyhouse!

Also, Sunee is a fun place and the vast majority are out to have a good time and the most are not

on the fringes and one can have a blast in Sunee and never encounter the pedos or their prey.

If Sunee offends Sammy, then he should keep out and go elsewhere and we are all awaiting the arrival
