Saw this posting on ThaiVisa.com and this hotel / guesthouse
recommended near the new airport area ...

The original poster had asked for recommendations here is a reply:

"Stay overnight at the Sananwan Palace, inexpensive but very nice guest house 20 min. from the airport. You can arrange to be picked up by them at the airport. Have a swim in the morning, have them get you a taxi, and you'll be in Pattaya well before noon. Or you can just taxi back to the airport bus terminal and pick up a bus there. The advantage of staying near the airport is that you're already on the right side of Bangkok to get to Pattaya, so you don't have to cross half the city again."

Looks like this hotel/guesthouse may be a good option for late arrival or early departure
stays near the new Bangkok airport.

I've been looking for an airport hotel for a one-night stay. At this early stage in the airport's life, it seems that the definition of an "airport hotel" is a rather loose one.

With the exception of the too-expensive Nototel on-site, and several nearby hotels that are said to double as "short-time" establishments, most of the airport hotels seem to be at least 20 minutes away. Either someone's been protecting their territory, or developers have been waiting to see if the airport sinks back into the swamp.

It's also somewhat difficult to find out exactly where some of these airport hotels are. The maps on their web sites have re-defined the meaning of "not to scale".

One of the few decent maps of local hotels I found here:
http://www.planetholiday.com/hotels/asi ... ng_na.html (http://www.planetholiday.com/hotels/asia/thailand/bangkok/maps/airport_suvarnabhumi_bang_na.html)

Bear in mind that taxi drivers have no idea where most of these hotels are.

I believe that the hotel mentioned above may be somewhere off the bottom left of this map.

For my money, most of the best bets seem to be in the Srinakarin Rd area, near Seacon Square.

If that 20 min away is via the highway in another 10 min your at the head of Sukhumvit and a plethora of better hotels. Unless you going out at rush hour Suvarnabhumi is easy and quick to get to and from central Bangkok.
