Looks like this discount card maybe a good deal ... 10% discounts for one card purchase of 500 baht :-)

Especially as more businesses and clubs "sign on" to the card.

You certainly love promoting businesses TRAVELLERJIM,do you get any "backhanders" by any chance,a few brown paper bags under the table?

Well Billy, You are right - I love to promote good value business promotions...
and I think the Panorama and Oscar's Discount Cards appear to be a good deal,
especially as more businesses join in the promotion.

I like a good bargain and discount ...
and from many comments made to me by friends,
fellow posters and Expatriates...that others do too :-)

As for "backhanders" Billly, .......NONE expected and NONE received...
unless, of course, it is from one of the boys :-)

Enjoy your day down under,

TJ

10% discount off already inflated prices ain't my idea of value TJ!!!!

John Botting,

I agree with you 100% ...10% discount is "little" and in my opinion should be 20% ...at least.

Slow season shows that the clubs, bars, restaurant and beach is struggling to get business...
and the card is good year round...both high and low seasons.

But 10% is a "start"..and one must look at the businesses involved
and compute for yourself if it has value to you to pay a one time fee
of 500 baht for the discount card..

And it is good to see the business community trying to come together
to promote their businesses...they need to do more of these collective promotions.

For me, 10% is not enough a discount for me to purchase the card,
as I do not eat - sad to admit - at named restaurants because their prices are ...
as you have stated " already inflated" way too much...
and the bars and clubs are already too expensive for their drinks.

For the short term visitor and holiday goer, compared to USA and Europe,
the prices are an absolute bargain.....but for an Expatriate resident, not so good.

One restaurant which I frequented many times years earlier, was a favorite of mine,
until the owner kept raising the set menu prices...and raising them again and again.

As a business owner, he is free to do so...sort of the law of supply and demand...
if they keep coming and I can keep raising the prices as well...better profits for me.

And that is OK....that is what business is about - making a profit..and keeping customers coming back...
but I can choose to decide whether to pay the higher price or "walk" to another.

And in Pattaya area, there are plenty of other choices to choose from :-)

Just one man's opinion...

Well, if I was there I would be snapping up the discount card for Panorama. I used to buy a bottle of whiskey (1500 baht inclusive of mixers as I recall) and it would last for a few days to a week depending on how many days I was in the Panorama Bar and how many people were drinking with me. For me that would constitute just over 3 bottles of whiskey before I broke even on the 500 baht investment, but considering how long I stayed in Pattaya that would have been easy to accomplish, and for harder drinkers or those who buy individual drinks, the break even figure would be achieved much sooner.

A good idea.
