On Thursday the Mayor of Pattaya, Khun Niran, took time out from his usually busy schedule of attending meetings, seminars and openings of venues serving alcoholic refreshments, to go up to Sukhumvit road and look at the beautification progress of the central reservation of this busy thoroughfare.
The mayor said it was important the vegetation looked really attractive as this was very often the first thing tourists noticed when they came to the city and he wanted to make sure the shrubbery was of a standard that would impress anyone.
Khun Niran also looked into the progress of road repairs along a 14-kilometre stretch of Sukhumvit road and the erection of new light fixtures as well. According to the original plans, everything was proceeding on schedule. He said the budget for the roadworks, the new and brighter lights and the greenery came to about 100 million baht, give or take a few satang."

You have to smile! The blue palm trees down the center of the road are among the most expensive plants in Thailand. Even with these and the other plantings it's hard to imagine anyone being impressed by Suckhumvit Road Pattaya.
