"Nakhon Ratchasima _ Two sports, bodybuilding and squash, have been added to the 24th SEA Games in Nakhon Ratchasima in December. The move was approved by the SEA Games Council yesterday. With the addition of the two sports, there will be 43 sporting events at the biennial Games.

In a compromise deal, a total of 44 gold medals have been added to please all 11 member countries and now a record 485 gold medals will be up for grabs. Originally there was to be 441 gold medals at the Korat Games.

Thailand had pushed for bodybuilding and six-red snooker to be included in the 24th Games. However, Thailand's attempt faced opposition from certain countries as the rules state that a sporting event must be approved at least one year before the Games.

The SEA Games Council meeting at the weekend agreed to allow more sports and more events to be included in the Games although it is against their own rules. Six-red snooker was also got the nod from the meeting while dance sport was a major winner as it got additional eight gold medals.
