After some good years and some decent profits, Thai International's little baby NOK Air is expanding outwards . . . within SE Asia for starters.

We've flown NOK quite a few times. Certainly no frills, but it was always on time and always a pleasant flight with good service for a small airline. It has a stingy baggage allowance, but perhaps that will be re-thunk now that international flights are to be included in their expansion.


" ... Nok Airlines, the no-frills carrier partly owned by Thai Airways International, hopes to become a regional player as it nearly doubles its fleet to support international expansion.
The airline, which today inaugurates its first overseas flight from Bangkok to Bangalore, is set to add three additional Indian cities, two Vietnamese destinations and Macao to its regional network.

In Thailand, the airline would add Chiang Rai, Ubon Ratchathani and Surat Thani to the ten current routes and four interprovincial services operated jointly with local commuter carrier SGA Airlines.

Instrumental to the route expansion is the deployment of five more jetliners between now and year-end, bringing its fleet of B737-400s to 11, chief executive Patee Sarasin said . . .
