I've never had any Thai food in Pattaya that was any better than "mediocre".

Huh?
You clearly don't know where to go for the really fresh, authentic, country Buddhist cuisine!

I wouldn't pay too much attention aot, to the predictable post that one has come to expect from the geenyus one above. http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u152/GeorgeThai/rolleyes.gif Apart from the recommendation of Jingthing, there are several restaurants in Pattaya that serve excellent Thai cuisine, some of whose existence, I doubt the BG is even of aware of.

When are you going to be in Pattaya? Drop me a PM and I will send you the names of some of these restaurants, along with their location.

Choc Dee,

Jack.

Why not share your recommendations with the rest of us, instead of PM'ing them?

What! You have got to be joking BG. Do you honestly believe I am going to risk taking the chance, that there would then be a possibility I could find myself dining in one of my favourite restaurants one evening, only to have my evening ruined by discovering that you are sitting on the table next to me, http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u152/GeorgeThai/eek.gif

Not fucking likely BG, I will stick with my original game plan. As an afterthought, should you try sending me a PM with regard to the name and locations of these restaurants, I strongly advise you against holding your breath waiting for a reply. http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u152/GeorgeThai/biglaugh.gif

That's OK, George. Keep them to yourself. Personally, I have doubts that you even know what good Thai food is.

And who wouldn't have expected you to have these doubts BG? After all, let all of us be honest with ourselves here, who amongst us, even those that have resided here for many years, could possibly possess a knowledge about something such as good Thai food? Well, other than you of course? http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u152/GeorgeThai/rolleyes.gif

Lots of people, including the farang restaurant reviewer for the Bangkok Post. And myself, of course.

Well of course you BG, how could there have been any doubt amongst us where that was concerned. I dare say that after more reviews, "the farang restaurant reviewer for the Bangkok Post" (Does the farang not have a name?) could go on to be as knowledgeable as you are about the subject of Thai food. Assuming that is possible of course. http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u152/GeorgeThai/whistle.gif

The farang does have a name: Bob. But he goes by the nom de plume "Ung-aang Talay", and is a font of knowledge concerning Thai food.

I was aware of that BG, but wondered if you were, especially as you had pointed out in a recent post how rude it was to refer to someone as the farang, why you had done exactly that when referring to Ung-aang Talay as "the farang restaurant reviewer" in your post. He has I believe been doing food reviews for the Bangkok post for over 20 years.

Although I am surprised, knowing what the name means, that he didn't give himself a more complimentary nom de plume than Ung-aang Talay, one thing we surprisingly both agree on is, he is without doubt a font of knowledge where Thai food is concerned. If there is a farang that is more knowledgeable than he on Thai food, I am certainly not aware of him.

Sorry AOT
You have to get used to mails here being highjacked by a pair of children. So sad in fact that they probably check the forum every hour to see if anything new has come up to have a bitch about.
As to your original question, it depends on whether you like Thai food slightly geared towards farangs or that made for Thais.
If the former, try Somsak up near Big C. If the latter, try Mum Aloy, in Naklua with sunset views to die for.

I'm not in the inner-circle of the regulars with these forums but I keep wondering why some members have to be so sarcastic, critical of ones comments, or always arguementive...this gets the main topic side tracked. Maybe people have nothing constructive to say so they have to put down someone else...

Sometimes I view your posts as those of a real Troll, but putting a cigarette in the mouth of a dead Kangaroo and propping the carcass on a fence has the making of a truly neat picture...

The best meals I had in Pattaya were at a little place called (if my memory is correct) "O-Aharn Thai" on South Pattaya Road. I had many more expensive meals elsewhere, in "nicer" surroundings, but the food at this place was superb!

Incidentally (and frustratingly) here in my home town in Farangland, the best Thai food* is from a take-away. All the Thai restaurants here are quite mediocre.

*other than what I cook of course :-)

Oharn is average Thai food. Good value for money. Nothing at all spectacular. I speak as a seasoned foodie.
I know that joint is popular with the daddy/boy budget Thai food crowd. And it is a fine place to seek nutrition. However, whenever I hear people rave about it as above, it just tells me they haven't experienced really great Thai food.

It is true that Pattaya Thai restaurants do not in general compare to Bangkok. This is typical in the world for beach resorts vs. capital cities.

ok, is there ANY restaurant, in BKK or Pattaya, that ANYONE will recommend for "Great Thai food"????

Personally I have no problem with "Thai Fusion" food but for the sake of this topic lets just stick to "authentic Thai", of any type.

Dear Kenc,

Please try Sarika, the sign is blue and yellow. It is located on Suriwongse Road, very close to Patpong Soi 2 entrance. [ Roadside location] nearly opposite the big Kasikorn Bank and other side of the street to Soi twilight .

It also does Japanese.[popular with them too!]

It is fairly small, very very clean, air con, outstandingly reasonable on the pricing. Fabulous cappucino, daily papers.

We go all the time. It is NOT for a romantic carry on.[12 years, we don't need it!]

Great food, Great price, Great taste open all day, STAFF ARE GIRLS AND FEM BOYS [ nearly all], EFFICIENT AND FRIENDLY

Also, on the other side of the Road about 50 metres before Tawana Ramada, walking in the other direction,is a Seafood open air, adjacent to a brand new, not yet finished office block.

It has a sign saying seafood, can't remember name but there is only one. Very, very reasonable good seafood and some speciality non seafood dishes. Open air, but proper tables and chairs!!

Kevin.

It also depends how you are describing restaurant! I would put Sariya more in the Cafe type place, but good.
