May 26th, 2007, 11:46
For all you sons of Sodom who only think of Thailand as a place for whoring, partying, and Botoxing (yes, that's you, Wowpow), I am posting a list of religious/royal holidays for the rest of the year. Bars are usually closed on the actual day but not on the off-in-lieu day. Some venues might start to close on the eve of the holiday.

Thu 31 May - Visakha Bucha Day

Sun 29 Jul - Asarnha Bucha Day

Mon 30 Jul - Buddhist Lent Day

Tue 31 Jul - Off-in-lieu for Asarnha Bucha Day

Sun 12 Aug - Queen's Birthday

Mon 13 Aug - Off-in-lieu for Queen's Birthday

Wed 5 Dec - King's Birthday

Other public holidays (bars open):

Tue 23 Oct - Chulalongkorn Memorial Day

Mon 10 Dec - Constitution Day

Mon 31 Dec - New Year's Eve

The King made a point last year that alcohol should still be sold on his Birthday and many bars remained open whilst others traditionally closed.

"Should?" He's encouraging people to drink now?

And why is "birthday" a proper noun?

"Should?" He's encouraging people to drink now?Indeed - the sales of red wine sky-rocketed when he went on television to explain his heart operation some years ago and mentioned its medicinal virtues

if only they would remove the duty on wine - 300%? - so it was affordable
