By the way, I have been thinking for 2-3 months that the men's clubs in Chiang Mai are (right now) vastly superior to the clubs in Bangkok. My former boyfriend, who is Thai, agrees with me absolutely. He wants to come up to Chiang Mai just to see the shows and talk with the guys.

Send your friend a debit visa card without pin code. If card arrives, send pin code by SMS or phone call. Any public bank TM in Thailand accepts VISA card.

That's exactly what I did. Within three months the card had been cloned and someone two hundred miles away from where my boyfriend lives had emptied the credit left on the card (not much luckily and a policy to cover for fraud replaced the money quite quickly).

The card was only ever used to withdraw cash but was still copied somehow.

So you did have had little trouble but you didn’t loose money. I don’t know whom many but quite a few people I know are sending money with eVisa cards but never ever reported any theft or problems.

There is no need to borrow money from a friend. If problems occur, friends are obliged to assist and help, that’s what friends are for.
