{December 2005 - jinks}

I think this is a bloody good site and I think we should heap applause and love and affection on and towards our noble site masters.

I think this is a bloody good site and I think we should heap applause and love and affection on and towards our noble site masters.
It IS a good message board, and has developed quite nicely (IMHO).

In terms of traffic, it's well ahead of the old EZBoard in it's last month or so.
That Board was (roughly) doing about 122 posts per day for most of the autumn. This Board has done an average of 200 posts per day since it was opened for general posting at the beginning of December.
So by that measure alone it's a popular Board, and can only get better as more members join and actually contribute.

You're certainly correct about the work of the Admin and Moderator. This phpBB Board is software-based and thus takes a lot of programing know-how (or a lot of scrub learning!). (EZBoard was web-based ... all the controls for everything were in nice little click areas, which made it very quick & simple to change all aspects of the Board).

ElephantSpike should be congratulated for sure in getting it up and running so quickly . . . it was originally planned to leave the EZBoard up much longer so he could get familiar with the programming part, but that plan was deep-sixed when the EZBoard suffered it's last meltdown in middle November (I believe).

So CHEERS to the Admin & Moderator of this new Board!! No matter the recent board/Bog wars, no matter the sanctimonious puffings of other message boards, no matter the addition of at least one new Board ... I think Sawatdee will still remain the Board-of-Record for open, uncensored, undeleted, just-about-anything-goes discussions of all aspects of gay Thailand.

BIG CHEERS to the Admins of Sawatdee ... and Happy New Year!!

Thanks guys. I'm not sure where you get the 200 posts a day figure, though, Smiles. You can't go by the stats in the who's online box, because I converted 2 years of posts over the space of a couple of weeks, one forum at a time, each forum spanning 2 or 3 months and taking about a half an hour to convert. I haven't been counting # of posts per day, as it doesn't really affect the bottom line nearly as much as it does on ezboard.
It seems like there are usually 10-20 people online here (other than the "flash mob" of 49 people that occured the other night when I wasn't looking), which is about half what we had on the ezboard. I have been under the impression that the # of daily posts was down somewhat from the ezboard. Give it time, though. I think some of the add-on features may be occupying people who might have been inclined to post less-than-worthwhile posts out of boredom on the ezboard. The volume should return once we get indexed in Google, which will be soon, and I think we will get more pages indexed here than on the ezboard. The blogs will also help boost us. MSN already has nearly 1,000 pages indexed, including the blogs.

MSN search for "www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com" (http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com&FORM=MSNH&srch_type=0)

I wish I could get it up so quickly - it would save a fortune in Viagra!

but yes congrats are in order - this is a much more difficult venture and a significant improvement from the bad old ezboard days, even if it has cost ES a few gray hairs!

I took the total number of posts in the "POSTS" column from the Gay Thailand, the Global, and the Other Country Forums. ( I left out the Posting Guidlelines & Discussion Forum because before December it was not open to everyone).

Then I divided the total number of posts by the number of days the Board has been open to general posting (i.e. since Dec 1/05). That figure came out to a smidgen over 200 per day (average).

Does that sound like reasonable math? If not, then help me out on it. I don't want to post incorrect numbers.

Cheers ...

Well, Smiles, if you take the square root of the number of hydras posting and/or simply prancing in their trap-door dancing bunny pajamas, and then divide by the number of smites your best Aussie buddy has, I calculate that the world will end at 14.34 tomorrow. My calculator was unsure of this answer as it offered the alternative answer of "the color blue."

Four years of college math has gotten me to Nakorn Nowhere!

Four years of college math has gotten me to Nakorn Nowhere!
But did four years of English teach you that the go-go motto is a take on Thai Airways - "Smooth Ass Silk"?

The thing is, in the current Gay Thailand forum, over half the posts were converted all at once from the then current Gay Thailand forum on the ezboard, and they go back to September or so. Also, a lot of the dates are screwed-up because of the changing of date formats back and forth between dd/mm/yy and mm/dd/yy.

the correct answer is of course 42

OK OK ... guess I got it wrong with 200+ per day.
The correct figure is 3.2 posts per day :o Oh well, only one way to go ... hehehehehehehe

Cheers ...

You are welcome, but please do not call me "shurely".

I can think of, at least, four (Ways to go.) plus several too kinky to mention--But I will if you ask me nicely.

I gave my cacklelator your original answer, Smiles, and it came up with this question:
'If it take a yard-and-a-half of water to make a seal-skin coat for an eel, how far does a rat turd have to fall to bust a shingle?'

December 30th, 2005, 12:31
Black or White rat?

December 30th, 2005, 13:29
Well it's a bit piss poor as a pornographic site. Otherwise it's terrific. Thanks guys!

Brings to mind something I learned in my schooldays...
In the days when computers were very large affairs, with tape reels and punch cards, some geeks at University took on the project of asking their computer to put in to everyday English all the proverbs and sayings they could find.
When the computer got to 'Out of sight, Out of mind', it came back with "Invisible Idiot".
Not a lot of people know that!

December 30th, 2005, 17:37
I too have had some very large affairs in my day

i agree ive been reading a lot of the old posts on the board and must admit there is a lot of knowledge to be gained from this site ... also a lot of funny on purpose or otherwise comments..
also being a pretty soft old bugger reading about people who have passed on has made me feel very upset even tho i had never known the people involved..
i guess that is one of the reason most people on here love thailand so much .. without a doubt the country and the people sure as hell know how to drag you in and make you fall in love with it.
bit like jinks maybe :laughing3:
