I last stayed at Hua Hin Suits www.huahinsuites.com/index.shtml (http://www.huahinsuites.com/index.shtml)

The site seems to be down now? Maybe up latter. It was recomended by Smiles. It was a great location and everying was nice except the water pressure. There's a few newer places on that same road that looked nice from the outside.

It's a right turn at the entrance to the beach, south of the Hilton. I don't know the name of the road but it leads back out to the main road. Maybe Smiles can help with better directions.

You sure that's a hotel and not a tailor shop?

John, here's a few links to help you out with guesthouse accomodations:

This is a very extensive message board on just about all aspects of life in Hua Hin ( http://www.huahinafterdark.com/forum/index.php ). At the right hand side bar you'll see a heading labeled "Accomodations" and under that you'll find a reasonably long list of guesthouses. We've not tried any of those on the list, but they are all reasonably priced, very central to just about everything (i.e. walking distance).

We've stayed at the Hua Hin Suites (talking about central!) mentioned by Trongpai above, the Pattana Guesthouse (really basic, tiny rooms, no hot water ... but only 200-300 baht a night), and the Pala-U Guesthouse mentioned above by LMTU (but it's not that name anymore, and it's present name I don't know ... it's a pretty nice place if you can find it. Most folks would stll remember the name Pala-U)

Here's a good map of the tow of Hua Hin: ( http://www.huahinafterdark.com/hua-hin-map.htm ). Many of the guesthouses mentioned in the side bar are also on the map, with mouse-over help links.

Also try these:

For $300 a night (and up) you can pamper yourself and your guy at the Sofitel Hotel, a grand old place from the 20's or 30's, fully renovated and quite beautiful. Even if you don't want to spend that muh, walk around the gardens and pool area, splurge on a dinner 'al fresco' or in the covered gazebo. Makes one feel quite colonial, and luxurious.

John, Hua Hin is a quiet beach town, far different from Pattaya. "Gay life" is not frot and centre, but can be found.

If I was to give you one "must see", I would suggest a short trip about 10K north of Hua Hin (between HH and Cha Am) to see the old Royal Palace called Marukkhathaiyawan. It's quite ethereal, and sits there on the beach with great dignity and charm. I made a post about a few years ago o the old EZBoard vesion of Sawatdee and if you want to click here ( http://p092.ezboard.com/The-Royal-Palac ... =307.topic (http://p092.ezboard.com/The-Royal-Palace-floating-on-air-/fsawatdeeforumfrm59.showMessage?topicID=307.topic) ) will see what I mean. Well worth a half day side trip just outside Hua Hin. Click here for DRIVING DIRECTIONS (http://www.discoverythailand.com/Phetchaburi_Maruekkhathayawan_Palace.asp), or a Tuk Tuk from HH will get you there.

Cheers ...

The Meeting Point in central Hua Hin promotes itself as a tourist information centre and when going there to enquire about hotels we were told ONLY about the furnished room conveniently located upstairs and needless to say, owned by them. At around B1800 per night we found it noisy due to the bar below, overpriced, over-rated, sparsely furnished (mildly put) and not very well cleaned. Avoid like the plague!

I hope to be shooting off to Hua Hin over Pattaya's mad Songkran days.

Can anyone recommend a nice guesthouse/small hotel (pref gay or gay friendly) where myself and bf will be welcome.

I am not into 2000+ Baht per night places. Also, anything we must do whilst there for 3 days.

Thanks in advance,

Here is a good map of Hua Hin: www.huahinafterdark.com/hua-hin-map.htm (http://www.huahinafterdark.com/hua-hin-map.htm)

This is a nice place, very central, clean: Top Mark's Hotel Hua Hin www.huahinafterdark.com/topmarks-hotel-hua-hin.htm (http://www.huahinafterdark.com/topmarks-hotel-hua-hin.htm)

Around Top Marks there a many GH and hotels offering good value for money. And from there you can walk Hua Hin without any hassle.

If you are looking for good standard accomodation, faily central and easy going, I can recommend All Nations on Thanon Dechanuchit.
I am not sure its still ownd by Tim (Canadian) and his lovely family. Around All Nations there are several good guest houses. If you don't like All Nations, just deposit your luggage there and have a look around. Prices range: 500 to 800 TBT for good rooms. Don't worry, there are plenty of choises and vacancies too.

I have been to Cha Am twice recently for both business and leasure. It is just a odd holiday factory, rather boring. It is not lively at all. Hua Hin is a buszzling middle town.

As Smiles mentioned the Marukkhathaiyawan Palace is a must see. Also a bit farther north is Ban Peun Palace in an Art Nouveaux style.
I saw these both on one of Utopia's (Purple Dragon) tours I think called "Beach Resorts of Kings"
You can also catch the moutaintop Palace of Rama IV in Petchaburi on the way down from Bangkok.

The old Railway Hotel (Sofitel now) is nice to walk thru just to dream about what one can't afford (I do that kind of thing a lot ==sigh==)
