As Thailand gets prudish Singapore becomes liberal

A lot of so-called Thai "liberalism" is simply the result of laws not enforced, or perverted by corruption. Despite its reputation, Singapore's liberalism is a deliberate, albeit gradual, policy-driven process.

This play, The Swimming Instructor, is not new. This is its second run, after its first season some years ago. I think both the male characters turn out ot be gay.

Another play currently going on, called "251", is about a girl from Singapore who adopted the stage name Annabel Chong in California, brecome a porn star and set a world record (since beaten) in the 1990s for having sex with 251 men in 10 hours. Its in the Guinness Book of Recrods, I'm told though I haven't checked. In the play, the actress playing Annabel is topless in one scene.

Last year or the year before, there was another play about the Marquis de Sade, where the actor was completely nude on stage.

It's so common now that people have stopped talking about such things.
