I dined there last evening with a friend who has eaten their every night it was open since 1st April and is enthusiastic. On arrival everything looked much the same as before. The place was a bit warm as the bar air-conditioner was broken but the restaurant ones were coping. It was only 7.30 so not surprised to see only a couple of single guests at the bar. Mr T the restaurant Manager greeted and arranged drink.

The menu is posted elsewhere on this board. It is more interesting than before. We got a tasty amuse geule of salmon tartar, good bread warm and a selection of butters - including peanuts.http://www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com/fo ... 11167.html (http://www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com/forum/pascal-takes-over-the-posiedon-restuarant-t11167.html)

I had a delicious starter of Pan fried Goose liver with salad. It was Foie Gras for 260 baht!. The salad had a terrific dressing and the Foi gras excellent but could have been warmer. Service was deft with the old staff now lead by Kim - Pascal's wife I think.

My main course was a rack of Australian lamb which I asked for medium - just pink. It was perfection, generous 4 cutlets, herb encrusted, juicy, warm,, delicious and with ratatouille and gratin Dauphinoise. They don't scrape off the bones here. My Ozzie friend says that's the best bit. Why is it I like redcurrant jelly with my lamb rack in the British manner. Unsurprisingly not offered here.

My friend had a mushroom salad that he had enjoyed before and then a braised Veal Shank - both disappeared alarmingly quickly.

We drank a half litre of the Argentinian white and a bottle of the red Malbec - great value at 750 baht. So even though we had pushed the boat out a bit the .bin with a tip added on was just over 3000 baht. We thought excellent value and will return.

Despite the massive publicity on this board and the weekly newsletter the place was not busy. They have re-arranged the restaurant to make tables more spacious and brought in the wine racks from the garden so it seems much smaller and cozier. Mr Heiko seemed very relaxed not to have any worries about the restaurant and was dining and paying happily.

I have yet to visit this restaurant ever without meeting a mosquito. This night was no exception and she was particularly malevolent despite my quick application of Jaico Deet.

We wandered down to Bondi to enjoy their excellent coffee and music.

Perhaps because 3,000 baht is closer to the monthly food budget of most people here than a single night out in dynamic Jomthien Plaza!

I think that I may have done the place a disservice by suggesting that a meal costs 3000 baht. That's just when you push the boat out with foie gras and Ozzie rack of lamb.

Not a single thing on that menu I'd care to eat. Looks like a 1950's time-warp.

You would rather eat "fashionable" food??!!

You don't care to eat fried noodles or Tom Kha Gai?

Thanks for the report Wowpow/Teepee. Ate at Poseidon a few years ago and it was fine ... though under the old owners I gather. I ate Thai, the beloved ate French :blackeye: ... and was happy! Friendly waiter . . . I think I got 'The Look' a number of times.

But a quibble: when you include a url in your message you have to separate it completely from the regular text and punctuation surrounding it. In the case above your pasted the 'http' part right up against a period and thus wiped out the hotlinking ( http://www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com/fo ... 11167.html (http://www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com/forum/pascal-takes-over-the-posiedon-restuarant-t11167.html) ). I know, I'm anal.

Even quibbly-er: Why do you use two handles on the Board?

Cheers .... (Questions such as these have been known to get folks put On Ignore in the past :bounce: )

well bloddy fantastic !!.

I'm sick of all these new joints that are still getting into the high friging tech look and "nouvelle cuisine" which is so bloody old hat-give me a 1950's restaurant any day. Lets get back to some good old glamour and sensible , starched white table cloths, silver service..the lot. Menu looks sensational...looks perfect for a cultured gastranome toff like me.

( didnt ya just love the 50"s..you could roam the world as a sex tourist and no bloody prompous twits telling you awful it all was...and boys dropping out the trees in every country you went to..they were the days !!!)

I could not agree more with Lunchtime Kuhn (minus the spelling)! I love that food! I come to Thailand to avoid snobbery :-)

Thanks for the tip on urls needing a space at each end

As I mention on my TeePee posts signature. I only use this name when I cannot get onto the board using wowpow. Neither ES or I know the reason why and it varys between Pattaya and Bangkok. Using my Safari browser at home I get on as wowpow but if I use Firefox it is refused and I have to ressurect TeePee. Any suggestions welcome.

I never IGNORE people for frivolous reasons.

Fried noodles? yeah...at a street stall for 30 baht, maybe.

This is the stodgiest, most unimaginitive menu I have ever seen.

Flamed veal kidney? Yum!

"This is the stodgiest, most unimaginitive menu I have ever seen."

the restaurant is merely pitching itself to a certain market and will do very well.

Actually I am surprised at the number of farangs who don't like Thai food as it's one of my great joys in life but you cannot change people's tastes...viva Pascal !!!

It seems to me that the prices of some of the old and new restaurants are becoming quite high. Thailand use to be a good bargain. I am sure the food was very good.

We are visiting from BKK and have had two very nice dinners at the Poseidon. It is convenient to Jomtien, and the prices are reasonable for the quality of the food. The house red, Malbec is also good value.

Having eaten there twice this week, all I can say is that the food was absolutely superb on both occasions. The restaurant was also full of diners on the two nights and I have no doubt whatsoever that Pascal will do exceptionally well at his new venue. For the record, for those wishing to dine on Thai food, there is also a very good Thai selection of dishes on the menu. Choc dee Pascal
