The Falcon of Siam - Axel Aylwen - published GB 1988 latest reprint Falcon Press 2004, 550 pages for 495 baht
A great epic novel of Thailand and the career there of Constantine Phaulkon, born to a Greek fisherman and eventually the Prime Minister of Thailand under King Narai.

I was delighted to loaned this book by a friend when it was out of print. It's a great read and seems to fit in with known history accurately. When it was re-printed in 2004 I introduced it to several friends who - with one exception - were delighted.

Imagine my delight in spotting, not one but two, sequels in Asia books published in London 2006

The Falcon takes wing and The Falcon's last flight. both 450 ish pages and costing 495 baht

I am just getting into the first one and the magical descriptions of Ayutthaya and the Court of King Narai are again a delight. These are not really sequels but expansions of certain periods covered in the first . These certainly need to be made into a movie in Thailand.

"magical descriptions of Ayutthaya and the Court of King Narai" - the mind boggles. In any case, if magical then not historical

If anyone should know it is Homi: he was here during the reign of King Narai.

I am intrigued to see that you have spotted the third volume in the series, The Falcon's Last Flight. I read and enjoyed the first two, but could never find the third, which seemed odd considering the popularity of the series. Well done, wowpow.

My US sources can not find the third book. Can anyone provide publisher?
Thanks.

I cannot find out anything about Falcon Press that seems relevant

By the way - Falcon: At The Court of Siam by John Hoskin - covers similar events but did not impress me at all.

Are there any bookstores in Bangkok (preferably used books) that have Thai history books in English? Also are there ANY bookshops similar to City Lights in San Francisco or like Shakespeare & Co in Paris?

I do know of a decent place in pattaya. There's a used bookshop at Pattaya Bazaar, which is at the dolphin roundabout.

You will find plenty of them at Merman secondhand books on the second or third floor of Central store in Silom Road.

jinkS - They are not chronological. The second and third books expand on parts of the first.

It will be donated to The Thais4Life Bookshop.

I shall bounce this thread with the date after my arrival so that you can form a queue to borrow this great book.
