This isn't your standard gay topic, but I'm hoping someone out there can give me some info....

A Temple here in Tennessee has asked two of us that are going to Bangkok in a couple of weeks to find & ship back 2 or 3 gongs for them. My friend and I are interested to know if there are any bronze foundries near B.???? We would particularly like to tour one to see how the bronze casting is done.

Have any of y'all ever heard of one? or can tell us the names & areas that we would have the best luck finding Large gongs for sale. Or foundries that we could commission the work to be done?

Thanx in advance, Lee

P.S. The rest of our trip has already been planned around the info this board has provided.... I'll let ya know how it turns out.

If you are going to be in the Pattaya area, you may want to contact mangoes guesthouse.

I believe that there is a place in that area which makes Temple Buddhas and so they may make gongs as well. If you contact the owners perhaps they can help you.

The only decent place to purchase temple things is from that area in Bamrung Muang Rd in Bangkok, near to the crossroad which leads up to the Golden Mount.

Rocky, you might also check out Chatachuk Market on weekends. Everything imaginable under the sun sold there (if you can find it ... they have maps!).
Chatachuk is a short walk from either Saphan Kwai or Mo Chit Skytrain Stations.

Cheers ...

Thanx for the help so far folks! I have been able to find the names of a couple of foundries, but am still not sure if we will be able to tour them, or at least watch some of the work being done. The People from Short Mountain Sanctuaries Temple appreciate it as well.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Be Well, Lee

If you're going to the trouble of actually having something made, then why not have it made a lot closer to home. Save the shipping costs and maybe get better quality. Monks can bless it when it arrives. I would have thought getting a design or some specification/picture to give to your close to home foundry would be far less difficult than actually commissioning something in Thailand.
Or have I missed something?
