I remember when I was walking around Bangkok. I was not lost but I didn't know where I was... I didn't care that did not know where I was or where I was going. I loved to get myself lost in the city in the hope that I would see something that I would not see if I stuck to the tourist streets.

As I was walking around I seen a building with the front cement facade was gone. The building had to be about 15 floors tall and a crane was busy at work lowering supplies to the workers on the roof. There was a very large green tarp covering the front facade of the building. I noticed there were young children playing on the empty ground floor near some workers that I could only assume were parents..

The wind blew and the tarp moved away from the building enough to give me a peek at the upper floor interior and for a moment I thought I saw a woman sitting at a desk! The wind blew again, the tarp moved and I saw her again with a few other workers, a copier and the ceiling lights were on!

I told a few people what I saw and I can tell they think I am making it all up.... Workers still working in an office building with a tarp in place of an outside wall.... Children playing in a construction zone as bricks and cement are being applied to the multi-story structure... A guy with a straw hat and flip'flops and a loose shirt doing welding work on one of the beams of the structure.... I think they chose "Not" to believe me :(

I agree with you, bucknaway; there are countless examples of construction practices there that would curl an insurance underwriter's hair! On my walks in LOS I saw them on a daily basis, too. I can't seem to find many photos of them but maybe I was just to dumbstruck at the time to take them.

Flip-flops on scaffolding (actually most anywhere) on construction sites seemed common, as was someone squatting amidst a tangle of wires using a power tool with no protection to hands, feet, OR eyes... with another couple of guys standing next to him wearing gloves, steel-toe boots and proper hard hat helmets.

Wish I could've seen the office building, though. What a hoot!

My favourite is the attention paid to the Electrical Code:

Oh, YESSSS... in addition to construction dangers there are always enough vicarious thrills left over for regular pedestrians!

I especially loved the rat nests of knotted power lines often within arm's reach of many BTS stairways.
