Anyone got recommendations for hotels in Hong Kong? Near the gay areas? (I don't even know WHERE the gay areas are.... LOL)
I'd like to keep it under $125 US per night

Jake - try gay.com Hong Kong room

I haven`t been for years but i know you wont get much for $125 lol

The drinks in the gay bars were very expensive too.

A friend paid about ┬г66 per night for the Kowloon Hotel in Middle Road, downtown Kowloon (just behind the Penninsula Hotel), over Christmas. Rooms are small but facilities and comfort levels excellent.

If the "Gay Area" means just up the hill from Central, I doubt you'll find anywhere in your budget near there.

Everard and I stayed at the YMCA International Hotel last year. We spotted a couple of other gay couples there too. No hassle.
Slightly over budget but not much.
It's a nice hotel and very handy for shopping and the metro - recommended. Link -> http://www.hotelclub.com/DirectHotel.as ... l=&id=4910 (http://www.hotelclub.com/DirectHotel.asp?Checkin=2007-3-21&Checkout=2007-3-23&ncl=&id=4910)

I usually don't stray beyond the Asia Travel site for hotel bookings in Asia - here's their HK page - http://www.asiatravel.com/hongkong.html

I'm planning a trip to HKG soon.

Utopia unfortunately doesn't offer much in terms of hotel tips ....

But after much research elsewhere I have gone for the suggested Ibis North Point ...

Simple room, harbour view, close to transport, within your budget (although HKG prices vary greatly by season).

Info for Jakenasty
Doesn't really matter where you stay because on either Hong Kong Island or in Kowloon (the mainland) you are usually not far from an MTR station and the underground here is excellent. Get you from point A to point B before you know it.

Before I lived here I used to stay at the Park Hotel regularly (cnr of Nathan and Chatham Rds) which is right smack bang in the middle of Tsim Sha Tsui which has quite a few delightful gay spots. Again when it comes to gay spots it depends what you want... fat gwaillos (farangs), asian bears, muscle guys, japanese beef, chinkies (guess), businessmen, disco or whatever etc etc. Its all here in spades. Not a hooker in sight. Well not that I've noticed. The men here give it away for free. They've got more money than you anyway. They just want your body!?!

Look at Park Hotel and other places using expedia.com that will at least give you an idea of prices. This is a great little mapping site [http://www.centamap.com/cent/index.htm] that should help you locate these places that you get from utopia.com if you've got a bit of time. Remember that the cost of living here is much lower generally speaking until you get into the bars and hotels when it is on a par with other major cities. For example you can buy beer and wine very cheaply at any supermaket like Park 'n Shop or Wellcome but as soon as you go into a bar it is astronomical. But your on your hols... Enjoy

Hong Kong is a wonderful place. Step outside of the bar scene and the sex scene if you can and there is a whole world of hiking, swimming, eating, boating, trekking... & more!

Oh yes, HK is a true hot spot.

The YMCA is my favorite hotel in HK. It is not over the top, by very good value for money - and indeed very gay too.

Sorry to be so late to reply -- although as many people here visit Hong Kong, hopefully someone can get some use from it. There is a travel agent called Out Proud Vacations, who get very good deals on local hotels.

The last time some friends from Thailand came to visit, Wesley at Out Proud put them in the Central Park Hotel in Sheung Wan/Central area (right on the border...), which is within a short walk of all the gay bars in Central (and the good restaurants in Soho and Noho), for about ┬г35 a night ($530 HKD). As an alternative, they offered my friends a hotel in Happy Valley (nice residential area, convenient to Causeway Bay for shopping, karaokes and saunas) for ┬г42 a night (Cosmopolitan Hotel).

These are just some examples -- contact them for further details: http://www.opvacations.com/

And as Anakot mentioned, there is a lot more to Hong Kong than just going to gay bars...

Here is a good site about hiking in Hong Kong:

And an outdoors site by the same author -- great photos and a very useful guide:
