Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTSC), the BTS skytrain operator, is to raise skytrain fares by five baht, effective Thursday. Under the hike, fares will increase to 15-40 baht from 10-40 baht depending on the distance. The rate hike has been delayed for three months, after the BTSC agreed to compromise with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, which owns the service concession. Anat Arbhabhirama, an adviser to the BTSC board, earlier cited that the rising operational cost and salary adjustments for its staff were the reasons for the fare hike.
