Comes as no surprise really, does it?! Sounds like a dreadful place, prehaps explains the English diaspora?

LONDON, England (Reuters) -- Britain is ranked last for childhood quality of life among industrialized nations, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) said in a report on Wednesday.

The charity looked at 40 indicators to gauge the lives of children in 21 economically advanced nations, the first such study of its kind.

The study found Britain lagged behind on key measures of poverty and deprivation, health and safety, relationships, risk-taking and young people's own sense of well-being.

Britain received better ratings for education but languished in the bottom third for all other measures...................

Here's a posting (related to British schools) by a blogger who I find very funny.

Maybe it depends on whether one is the shirt lifter--Or liftee?

Those claims to be an educated, well-read man are wearing pretty thin, aren't they - let alone the claim to be a scientist (you know, those people whose starting point is scepticism)? Here's an excerpt from comments on the "study" quoted by Aunty
One of the great skills in modern life is knowing how to get your own view about anything entrenched in people's minds. This is what academics are always trying to do. Generally, they fail, because almost no one reads their work.

The answer, therefore, is to produce a "report", which sounds much better than a mere expression of opinions, and to push it out under the aegis of some organisation that people have heard of. The media then read and regurgitate the report's "executive summary" (the first page) and a couple of charts

You really are a sad old cunt, aren't you?

LMFAO.

A comment about a report Bwhahahahahahahah. Oh dear oh dear. You are getting desperate aren't you?

Perceptions are reality when it comes to socio-political matters, Hovelturd. We're not talking about objective truths here, dumbass. Bwhahahahahahahaha.

It must be comforting to have such a primitive view of science, Beryl, but then you strike me as having that about your world at large.

What do they use for an example of a contradiction-in-terms again? Oh that's right, Military Intelligence. You can have one but you can't have the other. Isn't that right Corporal?

What a surprise - an ad hominem response. As dear Jane Austen writes "Follies and nonsense, whims and inconsistencies do divert me, I own, and I laugh at them whenever I can". My niece Aunty's response appears in this week's Nuclear Physics for the Under Fives, (the publication that is Aunty's life's work) in an article on scientific method in the 21st century - http://www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com/fo ... .php?e=337 (http://www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com/forum/weblog_entry.php?e=337)

There are those who assert that I am fabricating a family relationship between Aunty and me - but then you notice the frequent use of the name "Beryl" in Aunty's postings and on reading my own Blog you realise that only a family member or close friend could have known such detail - http://www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com/fo ... .php?e=312 (http://www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com/forum/weblog_entry.php?e=312)

As I show in a recent post - http://www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com/fo ... 9&start=17 (http://www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10729&start=17) - Aunty's grandmother was a showgirl, and Aunty's mother was introduced to the Pudding Club by an under-footman. Now Aunty is keeping up the family tradition by chasing low-life rent in Thailand

Oh you really are tragic, Beryl, aren't you? Is this all you've got to do with yourself, chase up what I write with such drivel. You sad pathetic creature. You must be a very lonely old man.

what I write is such drivelIndeed. It's certainly easier than telling us the basis for scientific endeavours in the 21st century, since it's apparently moved on from scepticism and the Null Hypothesis. Karl Popper must be turning in his grave

You sir would be the most pathetic individual on this board. I pity you.

By the way, I used to work at Harvard, (HAHAHAHA) so stick that up your arse and turn it, you dumb-ass loser. Maybe that might balance out the chip on your shoulder, you are so much my intellectual inferior it's a joke. By the way dumb-ass, what this thing called science is, darling, has moved on from the days of Karl Popper, but why would I expect you to know that given that you are an ignorant, uninformed piece of third rate, embittered gutter trash. Educate yourself you lazy sack of shit. I so pity you, what a thoroughly disreputable and unhappy life you must have lived and are currently living. You will never know happiness or joy or love, Beryl, death alone will be your only release. And on that day, good riddance to you.

... except, apparently, of Karl Popper's works
