I have started this post to exchange information about favorite places to stay and why. I hope it attracts informative responses. We may all get a bit of useful information from each other.

I have chosen the Chin house its 3,100 baht a night for a one bed apartment. You can bring who you like back, its not exactly gay but its very gay friendly. It has room service from it's nearby Chin kitchen from 7 AM till midnight. You can stack the large fridge up with all your own things and not have to pay minibar prices. I have taken these pics myself they are not from a hotel brochure

Not sure if the Elegance Suites Hotel (http://www.hotels2thailand.com/bangkok-hotels/Elegance-Suite-Hotel.asp) is my 'favourite', but it's right up there. A smallish hotel located a block or so from the Saphan Taksin Skytrain Station, this place is a bit off the beaten track, but not that far off. Lots of little Thai restaurants all around the neighbourhood. Has underground parking.

All the offerings in the Elegance are suites, comprised of large living room and bedroom, good size western style bathroom, and a small kitchen (including cutlery, bowls, plates, glasses etc etc). In my opinion, excellent value for money at 1800 ~ 2000 baht for the Junior Suites.
Service is friendly, but not intrusive. Breakfast is included in the price and it's your typical mediocre buffet-style which is so common in hotels in this price range. The rice soup there was judged "very good" by the beloved, if that's a help. Western stuff was not what I normally eat anyway, so I stuck to Thai breakfast fare.

Gay friendly? Never know what that means really, but let's just say that it's by no means a "gay" hotel (i.e. the clientele is not largely gay), and never received so much as an upturned eye. We never felt any vibes which said anything other than they were very glad to have us staying there, and please come again. On arrival home from that trip (last April) I received a little appreciation card in the mail a month or so later. Nice touch.

(As in the opening post .... these photos mine, not from the website)

Big bedroom (as large, or larger than most hotel single rooms I've stayed in). Walk into it from the living room through charming frosted glass sliding doors.

Comfortable living room to snuggle up and watch TV together.

Rooftop pool. Rather shallow but refreshing in the Bangkok mid day heat. There's a bar up there as well, though never attended .... but all we had to do was ask and a cool beer arrived quickly. Perhaps the bar is more lively at night, or on weekends.
Whatever ... it's a lovely view from up there and off to the side some nice mature shade trees in huge pots which keep it fairly cool.

Definitely will be staying there again.

Cheers ...

Smiles: This also looks like a little gem. I will certainly check it out on my next trip. It's not so far of the beaten track, and the savings is more than the Taxi fare from Silom. Thanks

The following are not really favorites of mine 'cos I've not stayed at either of them. But since they are both quite new, and seem interesting, I thought I'd post them here to see if others had any experiences to report:

1. Luxx www.staywithluxx.com/ (http://www.staywithluxx.com/)

This trendy looking place has only 13 rooms and is located in a typical Bangkok shop-house in Decho road, off the lower end of Silom, but not far from Chong Nonsi MRT and walking distance of Soi 4 and Soi 2. I like the look of the modern-tropical decor - particularly the teak wood bath tubs.

There's no mention of a restaurant, or cafe but they do promise breakfast in bed.

Rates vary from THB3,300 for a small 'compact' room to THB6,200 for a suite.

For a lower budget, how about:

2. Urban House www.urbanh.com/ (http://www.urbanh.com/)
This place is also a refurbished shop-house, located in Soi Saladaeng 1, just off Silom. Staggering distance to Saladaeng BTS and MRT and of course Soi 2 & 4. Again, no mention of a restaurant, but a photo also suggests breakfast in bed may be provided. The decor is much simpler, but it all looks new and clean.

Current rates vary from THB900 to THB1,200 which, given the location, is very good!

No mention of joiner's fees at either place, but the Urban House web-site states the following:

- We accept cash only.
- Visitors are not allowed in room.
- Smoking in the building is prohibited.

Urban house looke nice and its cheap and just accross from Chin House. There wont be a joiners charge because it says in their rules on the website, no smoking anywhere in the building and "NO VISITORS ALLOWED IN THE ROOMS" That'a first for me in Bangkok Perhaps they want to attract Nuns and Monks.

Actually when I stayed at Siam Heritage hotel last Sept. they also have a policy of "no unregistered guests allowed" in your room. At least one boy lost out due to that policy while I was staying there. :-) I was in one of the 1 bedroom suites though which was totally beautiful. Nice kitchen, big bedroom with a very comfortable bed. Very nice bathroom and a view of Suriwong Rd which I liked but the room was still very quiet thanks to the good windows. Some nice upscale touches and Lanna style furnishings. I booked through Purple Dragon and when I mentioned the no guests policy to them the folks in their office were surprised and offered to talk to the management for me. One of my guides told me that he had argued with the hotel's management in the past regarding the policy. If you aren't interested in bringing boys back to the hotel I definitely recommend it. The breakfast was also very good and the car service to the airport was top notch. Although I have read other reviews of the place that complained about some serious problems with the plumbing or the view and also about the fact that the desk staff don't all speak much English. The bell captain speaks very good English though and is extremely friendly. I would probably stay there again as long as I got one of the suites. I don't know what the rates there are these days, but it is not a cheap place for sure.

So Smiles.. when did you stay at the Elegance? My BF used to work the front desk there up until december.... He kept telling me "My hotel is nicer than Pinnacle sweety" :)

In allieb's world, I guess if you're not a sex tourist then you're either a nun or a monk.

I was the one who wrote a negative review of the Siam Heritage. Like you I stayed in a suite facing Suriwong. The decor was of a high standard but as I stated the service was something out the wonderful 1970's comedy series "Fawltey Towers". I admit it was a couple of years ago and it was brand new and perhaps they had not got their act together. It may have improved. I certainly hope so.

Bangkok certainly does have that kind of reputation all around the world. As soon as I tell anybody that I have just been or just about to go to Bkk I always seem to get the old,
Ho Ho Ho, nudge nudge, wink wink. And its not me only so many other people tell me they get the same response, except nuns and monks.

Not forgetting to mention we know boygeenyus isn't a sex tourist he is probably a sex tourist's guide. He only seems to go to fleshpot places because friends have asked him.

Hm....
Maybe that's why, when I walked in, one desk clerk said to another, "Look out! This old bat looks like a nun run amuck!"
It pleased me very much!
