Dear Friends,

I just chatted by phone with Allen's bf - Ken ....this Sunday afternoon - Feb 4th.

Just a short note to share with you the good news about "our friend" - Allen - The Gay Pattayan.

(Note...in this edit - I have deleted the word "dear" friend as it seems to have offended a few readers who are uncomfortable with its association with a man who has freely devoted many thousands of hours for over 8 years in support of gay Thailand and Pattaya).

Allen was released from Bangkok Pattaya Hospital Saturday afternoon Feb 3rd.

His second cranial tap surgery - which was performed on Thursday Feb 1st - was according to his Doctor - successful.
Though, according to the surgeon, it was to be only a 30 minute surgery to correct the location of the tube which is to drain water from the brain to the stomach - in fact the surgery lasted 2 hours.

He is now resting comfortably in his Pattaya Condo with bf Ken :-)

In 4 to 5 days, Allen will return to have a checkup with his doctor.

Let's do hope and pray this surgery will be Allen's last ...and that he recovers soon...

We all look forward to his better health.

Thank you for the update.

The majority here are interested.

(BTW To the freak with the foul mouth, I will continue to delete your posts.
If it continues you will have to get a new name.)

I have to agree in part with the sentiments of boygeenyus that Allen is unknown to many of us until this episode in his life.

So he is hardly a 'dear friend' to us whatever his condition and the sympathy that brings through his being a fellow man.

Can one of his close friends explain to us what, apart from writing a weekly report, actually has Allen done or is so special about him that warrants an expectation that everyone is rushes to his rescue. Maybe there is something in his past that many of us are not aware of that warrants him as an outstanding candidate for a public please for help

From my reading of the various posts, Allen is a businessman who has fallen on hard times, he has a b/f who has a business that Allen bought for him and that is still trading, it has been suggested that if Allen returned to the USA he would be covered by the state medical system for these problems in which case surely an air ticket home would be the most logical step once he is fit enough to fly, or is this not the case?

Allen did a great deal behind the scenes to assist many needy causes and was always amongst the first to answer any legitimate call for help.

Others in Pattaya are better placed to answer this.

February 4th, 2007, 15:26
Perhaps, while helping all these needy causes, he should have been paying more attention to his own finances. Just a thought.

In any case, perhaps we should take a poll to see if the "majority" here really are interested in continuing to hear of his plight in excrutiating detail.

Never met him - and never likely to

Never read any of his reports - and never likely to

Obligation to donate anything towards medical bills and the health of a stranger - none

Desire to see him recover his health - naturally - but more interested in the health of my 85 year old father

Anyone want to hold a charity venture or donate something to my Dad's hospital bills? All money gratefully accepted - with full accounting

Perhaps we should take a poll to see how many are really interested in continuing to hear your negative sarcastic bitchy comments

Talk about a loser. Maybe he is an investor in the new airport?

If you don't want to read about it move on
If you don't want to contribute don't
I too have never meat this man
When away from LOS I enjoyed reading his weekly updates
So I was more than happy to contribute
I was once told If you have nothing nice to say then don't say any thing
You know who you are

What uncaring self centered members we have become. Shame on you and all members that care nothing about the welfare of one of our members.. If you have nothing worthwhile to say then say nothing at all. I for one have been reading the weekly reports for several years and appreciate all the info and hard work that goes into the reports. Best wished to Allen and heres hoping for a speedy recovery.

To those of you who profess no interest in Allen's health, what are you doing in this thread ?

It takes a particular type of person to spill bile towards another human being in their time of need and denigrate efforts to help when, by their own admission, they don't know anything about the guy or what he has done for the community.

I don't know Allen personally, but for those honestly interested in learning more about him, TJ's piece in last week's Weekly Report is a good start. Even for those of us who have been around since the difficult times of Rut and Somporn, there are things there that have not been written about before.

Returning Americans who have not previously signed up for Medicare do NOT receive immediate coverage. They instead have to go through an application process and this could possibly take months. This might be a solution for the long term, but in the short term an American in crisis in Pattaya would be dead.

Consistent complainers about information posted regarding Allen's well-being remind me of the puritans who whine and rail against pornography while standing at the adult video/book store displays gawking all afternoon.

His supporters are quite correct in noting that no one is required to enter the forum, click a particular thread, read or reply to a post, or respond with a human heart.

Please recall that we are speaking of someone of advanced age with an immediate need. He will require ongoing rehabilitation with or without professional and support system assistance if he is to thrive.

Although under the new rules of the U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA), Allen could be enrolled in active MediCare through expedited processes, there would have been no wisdom in trying to endure the transit from Suvarnabhumi to LAX and beyond given the circumstances and potential complications attending to excess fluid in the cranium.

Allen has done much to assist others in desperate need of medical attention and, as far as I can see, - "turn about is fair play" - a value that some of you from the West may recall.

To the complainers, please do take your baht and buy another cocktail, pay another off fee, and suck another whore. May you be known by the choices you make.

Why so much info on Gay Pattayan?

A little background, and a history of Gay Forums about Thailand

There used to be a thriving eccentric and quite wild message board about Gay Thailand hosted by Dreaded Ned, it was the only active forum at the time. At the same time there was an illuminating site, run by Allen, that detailed life in Thailand, called Pattayagay.com. This site contained a lot of background detail about life in Thailand, especially gay life, and especially in Pattaya. I think that the site was a labour of love, for GP/Allen to provide visitors and residents alike with information and advice, of which the weekly newsletter was only one small part. I donтАЩt think that the site ever looked to make money.

When Dreaded Ned had had enough of running his message board, after some hesitation GP stepped into the breach and offered to host a message board on his forum. It was a freewheeling affair, and after some time, and some unpleasantness, GP decided that he could not continue to keep his forum open. At which point Smiles offered to step into the new breach and open a forum, and he is on record as acknowledging how much help and support he received from GP.

So thatтАЩs who GP is from my perspective, as someone whom has never met him, nor knowingly met anyone who has met him.

I have heard how kind and helpful he could be with people, but if for nothing else he deserves the level of attention and support recently shown to him, by gay Thailand message boards, for his role in keeping these forums going.

Did I personally feel that alone justified contributing to his medical expenses? No. But I do think that alone gave him the right to have his need for support publicised here.

I'm a great believer in generosity of spirit and I concur with Brad's post entirely. However I do wonder why we have (count them) at least 5 threads devoted to different aspects of this topic, two of them Sticky ie. they remain at the top

There are so many gay forums now in Thailand.

It is an insurance policy for the owner against any future unexpected major expenses!

You have let yourself down tremendously with that cheap remark. A man that is seeking election in a world wide body should be a bigger man than that.

I know Allen and I know he would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. Perhaps his
generosity throughout his years and his refusal to accept any advertising on his site or in any
way generate any income from all his work look foolish to some but I doubt many would be
there to help the cynics and the lonely trolls who infest this and other forums.

If you don't want to read any more about Allen , don't open the thread, they are clearly titled.
If you don't want to contribute any money, don't but maybe others do.
If you are bored with this topic, why not start your own threads with something interesting and new about
gay Thailand instead of just bitching, moaning and groaning.. Maybe , this is why you lurk in these forum
instead of having a real life and socializing with others and getting laid.. or maybe not.

This cat will make an appearance at the Cafe Royal benefit, even thou I have vowed never to endure another
farang drag spectacular but maybe I am just jealous I can't fit into the gowns. see you all there..
