Recend mail from Pattaya News:

Chonburi Gymnasium evacuated as suspicious package is neutralized by bomb squad.

A story now from our broadcast colleagues in Chonburi District, some 60kms from Pattaya, which demonstrates the high state of alert relating to the threat of terrorist activity around the Province and around Thailand. On Friday Morning, Police Colonel Chockchai from Chonburi Police Headquarters received information from staff at a Gymnasium in Chonburi District which suggested that an incendiary device had been placed outside the building. Bomb hoaxes are frequent, however every one is dealt with caution and the assumption is that any one of these hoaxes could be the real thing. In this case, a box containing a mobile phone without its battery and a message were inside. The message readтАЭ ChildrenтАЩs Day, 3 bombs and 3 timesтАЭ. The Bomb Squad were called and even though it appeared that no explosive material was inside the box, a controlled explosion took place under the watchful eye of Khun Komsan, the Deputy Chief of Chonburi Province who attended the scene. Before the explosion, the Gymnasium, which was hosting a ChildrenтАЩs Day Sports event, was evacuated and orders from Police Lieutenant General Asawin, the Region 2 Commander of Police ordered the sports event to be cancelled. Police believe that a local gang of youths may have planted the box in an attempt to disrupt the sports event. The investigation continues as the Province continues its high state of alert as Thailand prepares to celebrate ChildrenтАЩs Day on Saturday

"Bombs in Chonburi for Children's Day " really!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Bombs in Chonburi for Children's Day " really!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Your post suggest the difference between the sentimental and the realist view of children and childhood. The role of adults - parents, other family members, schools - is to prepare children for adulthood - independent lives in an adult world. Life is not about making the world safe for children - it is about making children ready for the world when they become young adults. That there are bombs on "Children's Day"?! That's life. There's nothing so sacred about children that they should be exempt from the world's realities on any day. It's up to us as adults to prepare them for this naughty world - bombs and all

Heavens. Next we'll have people posting about the lovely, gentle Thais, who can only smile, so different from the rest of the human race, not a violent bone in their bodies, and all the other tosh you get from the TAT (and some posters in this Forum)

I was being critical of the Message's inaccurate, sensationalist title.

"Bombs in Chonburi for Children's Day " quote ttom

There was ONE suspicious package and NO bomb it was an obvious hoax. Now why there have been so many hoaxes after the New Year's Eve bombs in Bangkok is a mystery.
