View Full Version : A New Year greeting from my boyfriend and I

January 1st, 2007, 21:05
This was meant to be sent from Hua Hin but a last minute glitch at the Internet Cafe means I'm typing this at the new airport. So it's the very last moments of my Christmas and New Year visit. I've been with my Thai boyfriend who, for new readers, is HIV+ and has been through a very tough couple of years.

So it's good to report that he looks great and although his stamina is still a bit lacking he has been very well during the time I've spent with him. He still takes a huge number of pills but has had fewer side effects recently. His weight is up and so, at last, is his CD4 count.

It was really good to see him swimming like a fish in the hotel pool although he refused to swim in the sea with me as he is frightened of jelly fish (last year there were hundreds of them but this year I've haven't seen one).

We had a good New Year's Eve Party and were unaware of the trouble in Bangkok until afterwards.

My boy friend's doctors are monitoring his condition carefully and I have no complaints about his treatment. I had hoped to find out more about his cataracts but he doessn't see the specialist until this Thursday so I hope to get news from him after that.

His college course is going well and his new rented room in Ratchaburi is bigger than I expected. He seems happy to live alone away from an area where people knew his HIV status.

So a really great trip and such a relief that my boyfriend seems to be so much better than previously and I can feel optimistic about his future again.

That's it as this Internet is on a time limit and expensive as well in this enormous new airport. I'll be home again in 15 hours...

All the best to you both in 2007. I do know what you are going thru to some extent as I too have had bf's with HIV fortunately not as sick as your friend. I know the concerns and feeling of helplessness you must have at times being so far away from him. Good luck to you both.

That's great news KJ! Sounds like your visit to Thailand was as positive as mine was. You might have mentioned it before, but I'm afraid that I don't remember at this point... What is it your BF is studying again?

What is it your BF is studying again?

I hope you'll forgive me if I don't answer that. If the college where my boyfriend is studying found out his HIV status he would be thrown out. So I've never been able to name him in my posts and I don't want to provide any more clues that somebody might use to identify him. I know it's unlikely but the risk is too great.

I would love to use his name and post a photo but he has to stay anonimous I'm afraid. He's already been forced to move once by prejudice to an area where he's not known.

Thanks for the messages of support and I will keep this MB informed of his progress.

Good to hear your latest news Jon.....If your b/f's CD4 count is improving and he can or has got his viral load below 50 then he will get a lot better quite quickly.
BTW I don't know what Scot123's intelligent comment was this time as I added him to my ignore list quite sometime ago. With his mindset those of us who have been HIV+ for a long long time should have suffered numerous ailments and died!
Good Luck you are a man well worth knowing.

Delighted to hear that your BF is doing well. I'm sure that the time you spent together this vacation, and all your caring for him has lifted his moral and has given him good hope and a reason to fight this curse put upon him.

Please keep us all informed of his progress. Although there may be a couple of sarcastic assholes on this board, generally I think everybody is thinking of you and BF and wishing the best for you. I admire what your doing.
