I am staying at the Tower Inn on Silom Road at the moment, and as it is quite a popular hotel with posters here, I thought I might inform you that thay have a sign in the lobby saying that, as of 1st January, it will be called the "Unico Grande Silom" Hotel.

Seems like a pretty silly name change to me, the "Tower Inn" was fine, and the new name sounds like the name of a petroleum conglomerate, so i guess it must be beacuse it has been taken over by a chain or something.

Anyway, nothing was said about other changes, apart from that they would "continue to improve". Perhaps this is a code for going upmarket?

We shall see, i suppose.

Ronan.

Sounds more like an oil company than a hotel name.

Or maybe trying to corner a Mexican cabana theme?

odd indeed. Prices the same ?..still no joiners fee ? always like the Tower Inn.

Hmmm

Possibly due to the existence of at least two other Tower Inns in Bangkok.

There's also at least one other Unico, so that theory's toast. It's pretty obvious that they have changed ownership; no big mystery.

What's in a name? As long as they don't change their no joiners fee policy!
