Wow..., thank you so much, if only all new members would be so generous with straight porn links on a gay board. :clown:

Even though a spammer started this thread, it will likely get viewed alot due to the subject line. Here's all you need to fulfill your desires and stock your hard-drive with a lifetime's worth of porn:

Google + "gay torrents"

You'll need a Bit Torrent program in order to share whatever you may find. My personal preference is Azureus, since it runs on Linux (there's a windows version as well). You can find it and other BT clients using Google.

links removed and spammer deleted.

This is getting tiresome. There is an automated program that keeps on registering new usernames to post this spam. They are easy to spot, though because they always have a custom title before they make thier first post. Unfortunately, though, :spam2: robots never give-up.

Jetsam, like it or not, the topic-opener was a clear Posting Guidelines violation ( http://www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com/fo ... php?t=6259 (http://www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6259) Guideline #2 ).

Cheers ....

Yeah, that's the other thing about robots, they never read the Posting Guidelines either. I just deleted another 4 spam robots.

I think there has been a malfunction in the sarcasm detector as well - Smiles you need a holiday!

Undoubtedly.

But I've always done somewhat better with irony detection than sarcasm. Admittedly the latter sometimes alludes me, the former, almost never (now that I've become accustomed to reading The Baht-Stop regularly).

As to the topic of this thread (i.e. porno chasing), my favourite Thai gay porn videos are now the stuff from Thai Twink Productions. Rather an unfortunate name ~ many of the role-players in those vids are not what I would characterize as "twinks" ~ but the productions themselves are first rate (for porn!), very horny-making, and the Thai guys within are fabulously handsome, and definitely having Big Sanook!

base metals (like base intentions) are always easier to detect!

a neat little pun, that I initially enjoyed. Then the smile fell from my face. It's 'wrong' and if taken seriously will perpetuate one of the most serious misunderstandings about words in the whole catalogue.

It is, on the contrary, 'sarcasm' that is the basest metal of conversation and response to other people. Remember the old adage, 'Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit'. The dictionaries define it as a sharp, bitter remark that is delivered with the intention of wounding, hurting, demeaning, insulting someone. The object of the remark is always a person and the intention is always to make them feel bad or humiliated. You can be sarcastic to or about a person (if they are within ear-shot), but you can't be sarcastic about the architecture of a building, because the building has no feelings. (Interesting case if the designer of the building is present!)

'Irony' is a quite different matter and a much richer term. It's what we call all those many ways we have of indicating something like, 'Well, another view is possible. Come and join me over here and see what it looks like' - or 'I've got a surprise for you!'. Irony nearly always involves the presentation of an alternative view, if only implicitly. It can be savage and devastating, or so good-natured as to be hilarious; and we have to admit that the border between the malevolence of sarcasm and the wisdom of irony is bound to be much disputed.

To many of us irony is one of the surest signs of liveliness and intelligence and is inseparable from what we recognise as 'wit'. The stuff of life and full humanity.

Sorry about the lecture and the omissions; irony manifests itself in so many ways and is used in so many expressions. I can't deal with the matter in less than 2 hours - with examples! And why should the distinction be important to readers of Sawatdee Gay Forum or any other forum? Well, I'll leave those who wish to to mull over that themselves. Personally, I think it does no one any favours to pretend that 'sarcasm' is irony or that 'irony' is 'sarcasm'.

. . . and your thoughts on porno Mr Piston10"s (with a slippery Freudian handle like that you certainly should have some hard, long, and throbbing opinions)?

In case you aren't aware: behold the Board's official irony detector smilie ... :ky:

is it ironic that I feel compelled to be sarcastic about this, or just perfectly natural? but anyway never trust a mechanic with a greasy tool in his hand - or an English Usage bible, either way you are going to get stiffed!

perfectly natural. I think. A bit of harmless fun with my silly assumed name and the expression of annoyance because I worry about the meaning of words hardly adds up to sarcasm - I'm pleased to say.

THis board needs to use the same system other boards are using to prevent automated creation of IDs. Thats the system where the user must type in a random character set which is shown in a distorted manner that the robots can not read.

Jake,

We do have that user verification method enabled. It has apparently now been rendered obsolete by the latest spam software. The bots can now detect the content of text posted as an image.

Sorry to put an extra burden on the mods, but how about manual processing of new member applicants? They apply then wait for approval, and of course you wouldn't approve them. Would you???

Or, a probationary period where a new user's posts are screened and approved by mods before being made visible on the board?

No ... 'sarcasm' is the lowest form of wit.
'Irony' is the highest :blackeye: . . . just ask Piston, but be prepared to read a 5-pager, with footnotes and a select bibliography.

Or I do a series of lectures at a very reasonable price. Though, of course, if you want them delivered in Thailand, I shall need travel (from the UK) and accommodation expenses.
