I'm visiting Pattaya in the next few days (I'm currently in Chian Mai) and need a bit of advice please :bom:

A couple of friends back home are keen on Thai boxing, and since I'm on holiday in Thailand, they've asked me to get them some authentic Thai boxing shorts. I've looked all over Chiang Mai and all I can find are very cheap looking plane-jane shorts made from very thin nylon.

The ones they have in UK are silk, good quality with fancy designs, and so far I havent been able to locate anythink like that here. I think Pattaya will be the last chance before I go home and I don't want to disappoint them or they will no doubt think i didnt even try. How can you be in Thailand and NOT find Thai boxing shorts???

I also have developed a new fettish since I started looking at these flimsy boxing shorts. I quite fancy the idea of asking any boys I off to model them for me... could be very nice :geek:

Anyone know where I can find top quality, authentic, Thai boxing shorts in Pattaya?

Thanks in advance for any help on offer :alien:

If you can't find the real thing (satin I believe, rather than silk) try the internet: http://www.thaisportgear.com/

Or ... go to a Muay Thai match (I think they have a place(s) somewhere in Pattaya) and ask one of the boxers. I'm sure he would be glad to help. Maybe he'll sell you his. :blackeye:

They have a huge new de luxe complex on Pattaya North Road and a Muay Thai Boxing Stadium on Theprasit Road. I think they will be able to help. Maybe an e-mail?

Fairtex on North Road includes a shop, just walk in and use it. This shows their range of shorts:

If you give them enough notice, they can also put your friends names on the shorts - or anything else you care to come up with...

If you are stopping in Bangkok before you go to Pattaya, near the Lumpini Stadium (which holds regular Muay Thai fights), on Rama IV Road (beside Suan Lum Night Bazaar) there is a shop that sells authentic Thai Boxing Shorts (and everything else needed by Muay Thai guys!). Sorry i do not know the exact address but I am sure if you are there and ask around the ticket booths at the Stadium they can point you in the right direction.

That could be ... very interesting--If he's still in them.

Thanks to you all for your suggestions.

Yarden, I won't be in Bangkok again this holiday - I should have asked for this advice while I was there!

Wowpow - I will be hotfoot to the Fairtex store as soon as I can.

Smiles - your pic is EXACTLY the kind of thing I am looking for, but the ones I have seen so far are not even a good copy - just cheap cr*p.

Edith - do you think I should wash them or keep them with their natural fragrance - eau de sweat & testosterone? :geek:
Of course I would still need to buy some for my friends as well :clown:

If you take a Baht bus past the Royal Garden about 2 or 3 minutes you will see a sign on the right side of the street. "Thai Boxing" they sell all sorts of shorts. The sizes look very small but they do stretch a lot. My Boxing friends let me know they like the ones that become transparent when wet.

Can you elaborate on that :drunken:

The comment about see thru was not meant to be nasty. It has to do with the water the guys pour over their head and body. The water is cool and helps the other guys boxing gloves slip over skin more easily. When the water drips down on the boxing shorts you can see the outline of the boxers leg thru the fabric. My boxer friends like the very light trunks that have a lot of see thru and are light to wear.
