November 24th, 2006, 18:51
The US dollar has took a battering on the markets today, the Baht is about 70.5 to the pound at the moment.
The dollar is weakening and predictions are a 2 dollar UK pound before Christmas

You may well get your wish.

The Thai Farmers Bank in Bangwao converted ┬г2500 sterling at 75.64 Baht = ┬г1 in an over the counter transaction this morning.

You will tend to get a better rate the larger the transaction.

Strange. Naughty got 75 to the pound in an actual trade, while the currency expert can only get 70 to the pound on the same day trade, the differential can't be justified by quantity alone.

Oogleman - I like your posts and appreciate you pics a lot...

Just 1 question... Are you one of these "Porn Barons" that we read about so much?

I don't think you make your own porn vids/pics... but it would seem reading between the lines... that u make ur living through straight internet porn?

Wish i could somebody to pay for my hols like that :albino:

Or am I reading between through too many lines?

Good luck to you and delighted to see that a Gay man can make some other use of the breeders!

Edit 23.42 GMT for spelling Mistakes!

the bht to the dollar is 35.80, that's dropped a considerable amount - was 39 ish a year ago,

Although the dollar is decreasing in value, the UK pound is not exactly increasing to the bht on this occasion, shame, so I wonder if we will get the 75 to the pound like we have in the past

Try a few other banks when changing money to find the best rate.

Thai Farmers generally offer the best out of town rates. This morning TF Bank in Bangwao converted ┬г2K sterling at 74.98 in on over the counter transaction, a drop on a few days ago but still better than the major banks in the city.

My company use Thai Farmers for all our international transactions and the average over the last 48 hours has been 73.97 on electronic transactions but free of exchange rate charges. Bangkok Bank which we use for internal business was quoting less than 72 this morning on sums under 5m Baht. from sterling.

Pundits are forecasting an end of year rate of 72 baht from sterling for cash over the counter transactions. You will get less if you use a non Thai bank ATM acoount.

Strange. Naughty got 75 to the pound in an actual trade, while the currency expert can only get 70 to the pound on the same day trade, the differential can't be justified by quantity alone.

Banks are free to set their own exchange rates and many offer better rates for cash/cash transactions than for electronic ones.

You will almost always get a better rate out of the main cities and tourist areas when changing sterling. US$ , Euro and A$ do not attract such favourable rates.

The majority of international currency transactions within Thailand are conducted in US$ which is why you will find that the money market quotes are generally lower than if you obtain a sterling to Baht quote.

Many banks will quote for one rate up to a maximum amount then a different rate for amounts in excess of that, basically a sliding scale dependant on the amount you want to convert.

Unless you are planning to bring a very large amount of currency into the Kingdom you are always better off changing on a cash/cash basis where possible. This does of course carry the risk that you have large amounts of cash on your person but you can weigh up the advantages and disadvantages of that depending on your own circumstances.

If I am exchanging more than 2K sterling (cash) then I always change at a bank outside the city as I know I will get a better rate than at the main banks inner- city branches.

No, actually it was just over 41 at the beginning of the year.

This 15% drop has got to be crimping the lifestyles of some U.S. retirees in LOS.

yep, the UK has had it good for a long time now, since the Labour government has got it, we have had a strong pound, the US, well its no so good and the outlook doesnt look good, we should have a system of fixed currencies all over the world, so this sort of change would not happen - fat chance of that eh

One of the reasons that the UK Pound and the Euro are strong not to mention the baht, is that fund holders, both private individuals and countries are changing their holding from US dollars to, more stable and likely to rise, currencies.

Most pundits do not forcast any major changes in the near future but then some do? If China did something big to the Yuan? China and Japan hold about a Trillion dollars between them. What is a trillion - oh it's a million million = US$1,000,000,000,000. Shit, you can buy half a dozen countries for that sort of money.
