Well, MSN seems to like us:

"Gay Thailand" in MSN (http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=gay+thailand&FORM=MSNH&srch_type=0)

Yahoo is still stuck on the ezboard (and for some curious reason the links page on my Angelfire site  ):

In Yahoo (http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=utf-8&fr=slv1-&p=gay+Thailand)

Google still likes the old ezboard better too:

In Google (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=gay++thailand+&btnG=Google+Search)

But it's only a matter of time before Google recognises us. They have already indexed more pages than they ever did on the ezboard:

www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com&hl=en&lr=&safe=off&filter=0]Google (http://www.google.com/search?q=site:[url) for site:www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com[/url]

Just an FYI in case anyone cares about such things.

I doubt many have any interest but from what I know it takes months to affect google standings and of course it has nothing to do with MSN liking one site more than another but a complicated system that takes time to build up..I am sure Elephantspiker is aware of this but this is intended for the rest of the forum posters....cha cha...

Thanks for that ES. I didn't know that www.gaythailand.com (http://www.gaythailand.com) was number 2 on MSN.

For what it is worth, MSN is a good site but the real key to traffic rests on Google and Yahoo. In both of those sites, Sawatdee always fares well. That is much to the credit of ES and his team. Keep up the good work guys!

Thanks, GT. Yes you are doing well in all 3 of the top search engines. It took a while for the ezboard to get indexed because of those wacky urls they use. I don't think we ever got more than 30 or so pages indexed there, but we did do well eventually in Google for our specific keywords.

I just re-did a few things last week here specifically for the search engines. Try loggging-out and browsing around in here. Look at the urls. They are all .html pages when viewed logged-out, which is how search engines see them, and is what they like to see. :bounce:

I'm pretty sure that the result will be that eventually thousands of thread pages will be indexed in Google, and many will rank highly in searches on a wide variety of subjects, depending upon the subject of the disscussion on the thread.

p.s.- I'll never figure out what the Yahoo bots think is so special about the links page on my Angelfire site. :dontknow:

I was surfing through google for gay chiang mai and gay phuket and their link to gaythailand popped up.

They have placed theselves well to get traffic from google.

I presume that Google is the largest Search Engline, by far, but I have read that Yahoo has more traffic ( it may be porn on their groups section?).

I don't know how quickly these boards change listing priorities. I did a search on Google just now 09.28 hrs Thailand and got:

1 & 2 gaythailand.net
2 & 3 dreadedned
5 dragoncastle
6 ezboard sawatdee
7 thailand.com
8 gaytimes - gay listings
9 utopia
10 thaipro

I don't see sawatdee gay thailand in the first 50 listed.

Changing the name must have hit the listings. If it had been called Gay Thailand Sawatdee would it get higher billings?

The thing is that the search engines don't see this as a community with a new home and name, but as an entirely new website that just happens to have a lot of the same content as the old ezboard site. I don't think the elimination of the dashes in the domain name would make much difference.

The most important factor is back-links, and.....

....all of our important link partners have redirected their links to this site.

It's just a matter of waiting for the bots to realize that. Once they do, we are gold, because we already have way more pages listed than we ever did on the ezboard. We just have to wait for www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com] (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&sa=G&q=site: Google[/b] to assign us some page rank (page importance on a scale of 0-10).

The reason they are listing more pages here is because we
....are....

On our own domain , rather than an oddly formatted url in a sub-directory of ezboard.com along with thousands of other boards. That makes a huge difference, and I think it will make a difference in our page rank as well. Our ezboard forum index was a page rank 4 (This is a different thing from our 4th place listing in the search results for "gay Thailand").

Every time ezboard changed our server, and therefore our url, we dropped to a 0.

The ezboard index page in its latest url form has never got beyond a page rank of 2. I think this board's index page can attain a 5 or even a 6, which means it is more important than the ezboard, so might be #1 in the search results for "gay Thailand", rather than #4 or 5 or 6, as the ezboard has been.

I have a hunch that the Blogs (http://www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com/forum/weblogs.php) here are going to end-up getting a lot more attention than anyone expects, too. :hello1:

I wonder if your location makes any difference in search results. I have done searches for sawatdee gay thailand and others in Google and Google Thailand and always get mentions via other web sites but no direct links? To find the link in some web sites is a no can do result.

I think that may be because your site is comprised primarily of images. There is very little text for the bots to index. Maybe a well worded essay on your index page would help. You have a page rank of "3", so you are getting moderately good traffic.

edit: I misunderstood. I thought you were wondering why your site doesn't rank higher for the term "Gay Thailand", but you are saying that although Sawatdee Gay Thailand has good backlinks, it does not yet show in Google. It will, mostly because of those backlinks, but it will take time.

Nothing to do with my site Spike I have an anti search engine thing on it dont want them to find me thanks but it dont work all time. Far too much traffic to pay for in Bandwidth.

Right, that makes sense, since you aren't selling anything, why pay for the bandwidth from search-engine traffic, and the search-engine spiders themselves take up a lot of bandwidth, too. I think if you put in a robots.txt file and set it to dissallow every directory that should keep the bots out.
