Residents disturbed by the noise of take-offs and landings at Suvarnabhumi airport yesterday threatened to block roads in the area if Airports of Thailand (AoT) fails to address their complaints. The residents of Chaiyapruek housing estate in Bang Phli district of Samut Prakan announced plans to submit a four-point demand to AoT management tomorrow.

These include calls for authorities to:
- relocate domestic airlines back to Don Muang in order to reduce the noise,
- introduce technology to reduce the noise of take-offs and landings of planes at Suvarnabhumi,
- compensate residents for the disturbance by fitting their houses with devices to contain noise, and
- ensure that all the demands be met by Dec 20.

Quoting statements by Somporn Phupuang and the Chaiyapruek residents, the Thai News Agency (TNA) said the residents threatened to block roads around the airport and burn effigies of concerned AoT officials if their demands were not met. The residents also demanded assistance from the management of Land and House, owners of the housing project, saying the management did not inform them that the airport would be built and put into commercial use, TNA added.

Funny that the good people of Don Muang -- a far more densely populated area than Bangplee -- never complained. One takes it that the good people of Bangplee aren't complaining about the rising land prices they're enjoying, thanks to Suvarnabhumi...

I looked at a condo in a complex in Bangplee about 18 months ago but didn't go ahead and buy it. The condos in that same complex are now selling for 50% more.

The airport has been under construction for decades. How come nobody noticed it. The residents now want compensation. Its nice to know that this money scam is between Thais and isn't as usual a scam on farangs." Airport too noisy buffalo can't sleep then no can do work, give me money please"

The complex is not a new one its about 10 years old. A 2 bed 62 sq. meter condo was selling for 1,000,000 baht unfurnished in June 2005. You can't find one now for less than 1,600,000
