Today I discovered something new. I discovered that Thailand has a 2 baht coin. I had never heard of it or seen it until today. Is this old news? Has anyone else seen the 2 baht coin before?

I think I will have some fun and use it on a 12 or 22 baht purchase to see if the locals will be surprised. I know I was.

The picture shows (from left to right) the 10 baht, 5 baht, 2 baht and 1 baht coin.

Sorry for the large size of the photo. It takes a while to load.

I get them very rarely and then it's nearly as annoying as getting satangs in your change. What I do like and have trouble getting are 50 baht notes.

What is the best way to obtain a large selection of 50 or 20 Baht notes? Can you get them from a bank or from a currency exchange? Or just buy a bottle of water with 1,000 note and hope for some 50's??
Thanks for your help.

You can get 20 Baht notes easily from a bank or currency exchange - although there may be a limit on how much at any one time - have changed 500 Baht note for 20s in the past.

As for 50 Baht notes - the banks will usually let you have them but the exchanges seem loathe to issue more than a couple of hundred Baht's worth at any one time - I suspect that they don't carry so many of them in stock.

Hello. I found some interesting offers about loans. It would be desirable to discuss with
knowing people. What do you think?

To answer bigben's original question:

The 2 baht coin appeared some months ago, maybe 4 months.
There are limited numbers about, so they are not so common in change.
They are maybe more commonly seen in Bangkok, or certainly this was the case after they were first issued.
Their size and appearance can cause confusion with 1 baht coins, in my experience.

50 baht notes:
These have always been less common.
Must be a central bank decision.

Never saw that coin.

Easiest place to get small notes is from a bars Tip jar.
At bondi i got 1000 worth of 20/50s no problem!

I once went to a bank in Bangkok to get some rolls (bags?) of 10-baht coins, and was told "You need to do that on Tuesday". Is that a Thai banking practice/tradition that you need to go on Tuesdays if you want to obtain coins? Or, is it a different day of the week for different denominations?

At the bank in question (not on a Tuesday, obviously), they had trouble scraping together enough "spare" 10-baht coins to give me B200 worth. I was surprised, to say the least.

I read someplace recently that they are changing the two-baht coin to a dual-alloy coin like the ten-baht coin to distinguish it better from the one- and five-baht coins.
