Any way you can get an indication beside the link to chat, showing there are people in the room, like the old board had.

Well, this is the free version of this chat room. The paid version includes the ability to show not only how many are in chat, but also will list them by user name on the Forum Index Page.

Try as I might I just get a little red cross top left every time I try the chat room. Is it me or something else?

I think that means that you need to enable Java.
