Stickman, one of my favourite commentators on Thailand, although a breeder and a Nw Zlndr, essays some thoughts on an adequate retirement income for Westerners in Thailand at http://www.stickmanbangkok.com/Weekly2006/weekly284.htm

Oh you do have a thing for us, don't you?

homi, m'dear, everyone in New Zealand is a breeder. They breed sheep and then sleep with the lambs, isn't that right, Aunty?

Oh dear, dumb and schizophrenic! Have you seen a psychiatrist about your maladies?

I stand corrected. Everyone knows that when it comes to mingling with the barn animals, homi is the expert.

Aunty, try speaking when your mouth is not full of wool next time. I was going to see a psychiatrist but Hedda wouldn't let me take a peek at her famed list of psychiatrists in Bangkok, all whom she claimed to know personally.

200,000 pounds would buy you an index linked pension of around 30,000 baht per month if you're 50, 38,000 baht if you're 55, or 45,000 baht if you're 60.

those are the kind of figures to bear in mind, not how much a Wullington bank will pay you for a deposit this week.
