A neighbor's family are hitching around Asia and sent an email from Ko Sichang

http://www.ko-sichang.com/index.html

It appears that Sichang is nearly midway between Pattaya and Chonburi and accessed from Siracha (Village)

They came down by train and plan to return to BKK by bus

I had the impresssion that Koh Chang was near Phuket or Samui, so this is a new resort for me.

Regardless it is a most interesting website

So close to Pattaya and I had not heard of it. Are there day trips or is it too far.

Very different.

Koh Sichang isn't a resort, it's an island off of Sri Racha inhabited mostly by fisher-folk. There are the ruins of an old royal palace and a Chinese temple for sightseeing. The only accommodation is in lower-end guest houses. No scene and no beaches to speak off.

Koh Chang is quite a large island opposite Trat, which at the far southern end of the portion of Thailand on the eastern side of the Gulf of Thailand.
The ferry port to get to the island is roughly a four hour drive south of Pattaya.
