If I was the owner of the bar where this is going on - assuming it's in just one bar - I'd fire whoever is trying to do that. All I can see it accomplishing is driving away customers.

The only thing that counts in Thailand is the way things work in Thailand. Maybe in the rarest cases there are boys asking for thousands of baht, but it is not by any means the norm.

From where I sit, a boy asking 6000 baht is WAY out of line. If a boy ever asks that of me, before I respond he'll have to wait a bit while I finish having my little laugh. Not going to happen. I modified it below - hopefully to make my point clearer.
I am also in your camp - as an expat - I found a person who is well connected in the straight-guys-who-only-play-with-ladyboys part of life and she/he (the ladyboy) refers to me (for a fee of course) "straight" guys that she knows are a bit hard up (no pun intended) for money my way so that I can play with them and their prices tend to be in the 3.000 to 4.000 baht range and like you wrote below - they are fun and a nice diversion than the traditional MBs.

I’ve just returned from Pattaya where I spent a two week boy orientated holiday. Most nights I had a boy sleep with me ( 6 different ones) .
