Imagine my schadenfreude about all the Bookburners who won't read the thread because they have me on {Ignore}. How long before Dodgems starts a duplicate thread?

A big jump in COVID cases in Chonburi province which includes Pattaya was also reported this morning

Rapid screening sites are being set up - https://thepattayanews.com/2022/01/02/chonburi-public-health-setting-up-three-major-covid-19-screening-points-in-pattaya-for-free-covid-19-rapid-testing-for-restaurants-that-sell-alcohol/

According to the breakdown of COVID cases for the past 24 hours, Thonburi including Pattaya comes first (in excess of 400) and one-third more than Bangkok in second place. As I said a couple of weeks ago the Omicron tsunami will occur as Thais spread out across the entire country and return during the new year break. Omicron seems to peak within 4 to 6 weeks. The beginning of February doesn't look like being a great time to be here

Today's provincial numbers (PCR tests):
Bangkok 358
Thonburi 351

2,927 (21 in prison) confirmed (by PCR) cases, 1,939 probable cases (ATK), and 18 deaths (0.97%). Out of 33,114 patients ⬆️, 16,649 are in hospital, 14,831 in hospitel and 752 in home/community isolation. There are 556 in a serious condition (-6) with 148 on ventilators (-8)

The ATK number seems to be rising although I can't find a recent previous figure for comparison

This should come as no surprise to the powers that be who encouraged Bangkok and domestic tourists to visit Pattaya.

Now that the New Year holiday is over Authoroties should expect numbers of infections to drop in Pattaya... or have they done the damage?

Those are PCR figures - the ATK figures IMO give a better idea. Beyond that there's no mechanism for at-home test results for ATK to be reported at all so keep the salt cellar close to hand when looking at any of these numbers

Thonburi (including Pattaya) sprints (spurts?) to a convincing lead today:

I would hope that is a follow on from the new year festivities and reduce as the domestic tourists go home.
