Belfast

Belfast.
The latest film written and directed by Keneth Branagh. Shot in black and white it's set against the backdrop.of Belfast at the start of the troubles in 1969.

Told through the eyes of a family and the decisions they have to make. Stellar performances from all but notably Dame Judi Dench and Ciaran Hinds. Stealing the show however is 11 year old Jude Hill who gives a quite mesmerising performance as Buddy. His scenes with Hinds soar and his comic timing is joyous.

Gritty and urban it never shirks from the setting while still having a bitingly humorous script and feel good warmth throughout. Full of nostalgia and a sound track to tap feet to. Hard not to see this sweeping the board at the Baftas.

Troubles for the Brits I presume that almost cost the life of Margaret Thatcher when she was in Brighton. Just leave the Irish alone...
