No. But if you bought a ticket I believe you can purchase for an upgrade.
You mentioned you were going to apply for a Thai FF card. In an earlier posting I said that AMEX was the only card in Australia you can get FF points for Thai. So you will need an AMEX card as well
PER/BKK/PER is 6630 miles round trip you need 45,000 points or 15,000 and buy 30,000
LAX/BKK/LAX is 16520 miles round trip you need 65,000 or 35,000 and buy 30,000
JFK/BKK/JFK is 17312 miles round trip [dont know the airport code for New York] you need 85,000

If your account does not contain sufficient miles for your preferred Award, miles can be purchased to top-up your account up to a maximum of 30,000 miles.
