from this week's Pattaya City Expats Club Newsletter:

PATTAYA CITY EXPATS CLUB
FOUNDED IN MARCH 2001
PATTAYA'S OLDEST AND FRIENDLIEST EXPAT CLUB
MEETING EVERY SUNDAY FOR OVER FOUR YEARS AT HENRY J. BEAN'S,
AMARI ORCHID RESORT, NORTH BEACH ROAD, PATTAYA

THIS WEEK'S MEETING, SUNDAY, AUG. 20 тАУ The Chief of the Heart Center at the
Bangkok-Pattaya Hospital, Dr. Manoon Somrantin, has arranged to bring not one,
but two EKG machines to Henry J. Beans this coming Sunday, to provide free EKG
tests for all members and guests who wish to take this important real-time
cardiac check-up.

Testing will be available from 9:30 AM to the close of the
meeting тАУ or until all who wish have taken the test.

Dr. Manoon will explainthe information it provides, the meaning of the information, and suggestions for treatment for those with irregularities. He will also discuss the use of their
new equipment, including the тАЬ64 slicesтАЭ heart (and other organ) scan, and the
PET scan for cancer and other abnormalities.

Reina Rances will also be with us to offer Blood tests and Blood Fasting Sugar
tests. For accurate testing for Blood sugar levels, you should not have anything
to eat or drink (including water) after midnight Saturday. According to Reina
you can cheat a little by having a very small amount of water in the morning to
wet your lips тАУ and six hours is the absolute minimum time between eating and
the fasting blood sugar test. No water at all, and no eating after midnight are
strongly suggested to assure the accuracy of the tests.

If either of these tests is very close to or over the normal maximum, consider
keeping a record of your test results, and vary your diet and/or exercise to
reduce the test results to normal at the next testing тАУ we will have the tests
available, with no charge, provided by the Bangkok-Pattaya Hospital, at the 3rd
Sunday meeting of every month.

This is a good opportunity for Pattaya area Expats and visitors to have free EKG and blood tests...

Thanks Travelerjim for the info. These tests may help many expats and the price is sure right. My question is concerning the Blood Fasting Sugar Test. If you have a chance to ask Reina, could you find out why you can't have water? I understand the rationale for no food (that is fasting), but how does water influence a fasting blood sugar test?
