Jim, info seems a bit sparse. Unless I have missed something there is 1 Bangkok Hotel US$ 40 to 90 and three places in both Chiang Mai and Phuket for which you get a name address and telephone number only!

http://www.thaihotelsbooking.com/budget ... angkok.htm (http://www.thaihotelsbooking.com/budget_hotels_central_bangkok.htm) may offers more but I don't know anything about it.

Hi TeePee,

I have found the webpages for most all of the B&B's listed in the B&B Directory/Newsletter for Thailand..

Hope this helps find new and affordable accomodations...

If you are less into B & B's and like a little hotel comfort, I always find Asia Rooms very useful.

http://www.asiarooms.com/

You can find loads of affordable hotels (states up to 75% discount) in an easy listing with reviews, pictures and details such as facilities available.

I suggest you find three hotels that you like and fit your budget, then google each of the hotels (if you can't find a web page listing for the hotel try and google the hotel name followed by 'yellow' - which gives you the yellow pages listing for the hotel, on that page you will normally find the web address for the hotel) and check out any 'promotions' offered, they are sometimes cheaper than the discount booking websites.

One further tip before booking a hotel room through asia rooms or any discount website and even before booking through a hotel's own website, take a chance and email the hotel you want directly, give them the dates you want and ask what price they can quote you, it sometimes comes in at a lot cheaper than you think. Example, for the dates I wanted:
[/b]Angkor Hotel Siem Reap
Hotel website standard rate - $100
Hotel website internet booking rate - $65
Asia rooms internet booking rate - $41
Hotel email enquiry re: room availability - $30

all takes a little time but you can get good savings.

Like Fatman I've also had good luck with Asia Rooms, but the past couple of trips I've been booking through Precision Reservations and thought I'd share my experiences with the board. In fact, I've been booking hotels for my upcoming visit over the last week or so. They're based in Singapore and deal with a huge number of hotels.

On the plus side:
1) The prices are usually the same as Asia Rooms or a few dollars a day less
2) You earn points you can use to get 10 or 25 dollars off of a night's stay (I'll earn 3 free nights this coming trip)
3) You also earn points reviewing hotels you stay at, and best of all...
4) There is a live person available via private chat via their web site 24/7 to answer questions and confirm things for you. They email you a copy of your chat session for your records.

On the minus side:
1) They may not handle your favorite spots (they don't handle the Markland in Pattaya, for example)
2) Jimmy is still the cheapest for the Pinnacle, if that's your hotel of choice in BKK. I've never stayed there myself, but I have my own regular haunts and am somewhat a creature of habit.

More pluses than minuses? I personally think so. Maybe some others will have bad experiences to share about them, but that's my recommendation, for what it's worth.

Sorry - I like it when others provide the link... I need to remember it myself!

...and I agree with Fatman: shop around!
