View Full Version : Any alternative to The Pinnacle Hotel?

August 15th, 2006, 19:13
My last two trips to Bangkok I have stayed at The Pinnacle Hotel and booked thru Jimmy. My last stay was in March 06 and the service was not all that great. 2 days while I was there the electricity was cut off during the day because they were working on the lines. I also found that the air-condition was not quite up to the job. I do how ever like the location and the price.

Is there a good alternative to staying at The Pinnacle Hotel? I don't mind staying in another part of the city if it is close to a BTS Station. A serviced apartment would be OK too. I just don't want to have a hassle with joiners fees if I bring back a guest to my room.

To all of you that responded to my previous Airline question. Thank You!!

You will not find anything better value than the Pinnacle through Jimmy - it's a snip. I checked out the day the electricity was being changed. The porter carried my bags down from the 13th floor - no problem.

Here is another one you might try. The only drawback I found was the coffee shop.. It was there but not sure why.

Bangkok Centre hotel near the main train station, Chinatown, and right on a subway line!
Not gay friendly. Not friendly to anyone, but who cares?
Basic, horrible breakfast buffet, no joiners fee as far as I can tell.
Cheap when booked through discount website:

Not as cheap when booked directly, so don't.

Bangkok Center Hotel's Page on Asiarroms.com (http://www.asiarooms.com/thailand/bangkok/bangkok_centre.html?OVRAW=bangkok%20centre&OVKEY=bangkok%20center%20hotel&OVMTC=advanced)

If you want to try another part of the town, you could try Saphan Khway which has cheap good hotels, is close to Don Muang, Chatuchak and Morchit Bus Station (busses to Pattaya, the North and the Northeast). There is a Big C, many street food stalls, a sleazy gay sauna ore two, and a fair amount of gay bars (although they are more oriented for thai, farangs are mostly welcome here) ; one gogo bar (Be High), two host bars and five or six karaoke bars.
Here is a complete list for the hotels
www.bangkoktourist.com/hotels_pradiphat.php (http://www.bangkoktourist.com/hotels_pradiphat.php)
Some sites for reservation :
Elizabeth Hotel (http://www.hotelthailand.com/bangkok/elizabeth/index.html)
Karnmanee (http://www.hotelthailand.com/bangkok/karnmanee/index.html)
Saphan Kwai BTS station is within 1 km from the listed hotels hotels ; you will be most often the only farang to get out of the train there.

while on the subject of the pinnacle..........it has 2 new gay waiters in the restaurant from 6am - 2pm.

One them is an absolute stunner.

If you like the location, try Vincents... which is just across the road. New establishment, new rooms and not as sleazy as the Pinnacle. The earlier reviews suggest that it is quite nice, but reservations required.

There are better locations. How would u like to be staying in a hotel next to @Richards in Silom Soi 2/1? Rooms are quiet and decently sized. Breakfast is nothing to scream about but Bug&Bee/Coffee Society is just next door:

I have always stayed at the Pinnacle Hotel before. I don't have any problems with Jimmy I have always just called him. I will not stay there as long as they have the new joiner fee policy. Thanks for all your suggestions. I think I will try the THE SUNRISE RESIDENCE 110/1 Saladaeng 1/1, Saladaeng Road this trip. Has anyone stayed there before? I had a friend go by and look for me. He said it was a good location and looked clean.

The current rates if booked through http://www.asiarooms.com/thailand/bangk ... pinee.html (http://www.asiarooms.com/thailand/bangkok/pinnacle_lumpinee.html) show that:
Single Standard Room = baht 1004
Single Superior Room = baht 1121
Single Deluxe Room = baht 1357

The Pinnacle's website http://www.pinnaclehotels.com/lumpinee/index.html states that prices are:
Single Standard Room = baht 1300
Single Superior Room = baht 1500
Single Deluxe Room = baht 1700

Teepee - the information you posted about the Pinnacle is accurate but the room charges you show in your post were dated to end in March 2006.

I have booked in the Pinnacle twice in the last year using http://asiarooms.com/

I don't know how their rates stack up to Jimmy but right now you can book a Deluxe room at just under 1400. I would definitely recommend deluxe as anything less doesn't have in room safe.

So who was it that said you could not bring Joiners in the first place, it is so confusing some friends of mine from Singapore came here to be told of the dreaded joiners fee so 8 of them did not stay there the Pinnacle must of lost a fortune.

I hope it is not one of those nasty rumors that get out of hand like a forest fire, Im still looking for them to pull down The Pattaya Hollywood disco, I bet that one went down well with the Owners.

Try this hotel very near to both Malaysia and Pinnacle very good value around 700 or 800 baht

I saw it happen. Not a rumor. 500 baht.

I have always stayed at the Pinnacle and booked through Jimmy - as other posts say do not expect a reply if you email - better to call. i 've never has a problem and just trusted jimmy to deal with it. Maybe i have been lucky but always had good service except some of the female reception staff can come across a bit surly. The only pain is the queue into jimmy's room to pay as he is really busy ( when you see it will explain why he never answers emails), and can take up to about 45 minutes if you're waiting. for deluxe room i have been paying about 1000 mark.

I like it very much. The only draw back is, that this hotel is often book out since it is in fact a guest house spinned off from famous Mahidol University, that's the way I came to this lovely place some years ago. Conveniently located just around the corner from Silom Road.

Clean, good services and very gay indeed. Shopping Mall and very good Villa Supermarket are attached.

I've stayed at the Plaza Hotel on Suriwong Road twice this year. The rooms are clean and very large. They say there is a joiners fee but I never had to pay it. I think because I had a double room, but not sure. They hold the ID card wheile the guy is in your room. Nobody says anything and we all just get on with the business. It's a 5 minute walk to Patpong.

Try Omyim Lodge www.omyimgroup.com (http://www.omyimgroup.com) been open 6 months and located next to Chong Nonsi skytrain station 7 mins walk from Silom 2 and 4 etc. Always quite full as is very popular so book early.

I have stayed at Pinnacle many times.....and was just OK The towels at Pinnacle suck big time......small thin and very old just like the rooms.....

Om YIm is great.....brand new , well appointed rooms......nice towles , nice rest rooms......beds comforatble....close to Sky Train...and walking to soi 4 in about 10 minutes..?

Nice restaurant , nice staff , computers in the lobby convenient for your use......no funky time cards for usage like at Pinnacle.

What I hear is that the Pinnacle management wants to charge a joiners fee but has yet implemented a system to keep track of joiners. Some check in with boyfriends and other's keep the key and just walk by the desk.

I also hear that they would like to give Jimmy the boot, but he has a contract with the previous management. If they want him gone all that bad, I am sure he has a price.

Vincent's across the street is a better bet, but often full with only 7 rooms. You get your own key and entrance, no lobby.

The Swiss Lodge is NOT gay friendly. Do a search on here to hear some of the problems people have had with management there.
I second the recommendation for OM YIM. Much better than the tired Pinnacle. Luckily for me, my guy has finally moved out of "Mom's house" and gotten a nice apartment near the Malaysia hotel, so I won't have to worry about renting a hotel anymore.

is a fine place to stay. It is much better than the Pinnacle being both new, a lot cheaper, and directly at a Sky Train station. It has a restaurant, and friendly mangement. I always stay there when I am in Bangkok, but you have to reserve a room ahead of time because they're usually full. (The secret's out)

It is not an accident that The Malaysia Hotel is 100% full most days of the year. At their new 'exorbitant' rate of Baht 700 you get one double bed, one 3/4 bed, TV, refrigerator, small but functional bathroom, swimming pool [sometimes plus sexy Thai boys, just up/down to Bangkok for a day or two, draped around it sunning themselves[. No questions asked about guests, day or night, the boys who wait outside hoping for an invitation never hassle you on arrival at the hotel.

24 hour restaurant/bar. If you are a Babylon regular it is just aruond the corner a 5 minute walk.

If you are retiring at night, alone, you may even get groped in the lift!

Be aware that Malasia Hotel is a family hotel .... with loads of Russian guests who are ofte cause trouble. This is the reason why the hotel is usually fully booked well in advance. 700 TBT is a special price for one person only! They usually charge for a secound person usually 100 TBT.

The rooms are mixed, some are pretty tired due to the heavy use and not enough time or money left for renovation. Neverthepess, regarding value for money its hard to beat the Malaysia. Next at it might be the Pinnacle, Silom Tower Inn.

A few of the money boys cruising the hotel facilities are stealing. You should lock everything away before you have an 'guest'.

The coffee shop is is still good.

A Family Hotel, where have you been all your life? Obviously an instant expert on everything! I stay at The Malaysia for 1-2 weeks every 2-3 months for past 8 years. Never seen a Russian, and the only 'children I ever saw was Dad and 3 teenage sons [down from Chiang Mai], the eldest of which was more than fascinated by the toilets between the restaurant and reception.

Pantip is very nice if you got the money. They could not fill up with long-term renters so recently started this daily rate. There is a huge construction project on Sathorn Soi 1, so be careful you get a room on the backside. I hear it's gay friendly and no joiner fees.

If your real low on funds or just down right cheap, there's loads of guest houses and hotels in this area that don't have web sites, cash only and some are actually clean, so I hear.

Also, another construction project across from the Malaysia. The front rooms I am sure can hear the noise.

The Tower has changed it's name. Some of the rooms that are renovated are ok, very big but in my opinion lots of waisted space. Some like it, I do not. Personally I would go with the Pinnacle deluxe room over any at the Tower.

June 1st, 2007, 06:27
The Tower Inn is now called The Unico Grande Silom. The location is quite good as Soi 4 etc are within walking distance - though quite a long one. Also a longish walk to skytrain ( I am assuming most readers are of advanced years and unaccustomed to the heat) .

The room are very large and the website shows redecorated. I stayed there years ago and had a big room with a sitting and a kitchen area. I remember the corridors being very hot and long. The rooftop pool and garden are a big plus for some.

The website rate is 2200 baht but Asiarooms have then for about 1700 - maybe not renovated?

Pantip Court does get a strong gay presence both long term residents and regional tourists. I wouldn't say it is "gay friendly" though there are no breakfast vouchers - I was told my guests were welcome to the buffet as I'd booked a room for two. It's very well run.

The elevator attendant makes a point of selecting your floor as you enter the elevator area but you will not get his usual smiling wai if your companion doesn't meet his approval.

The space is enormous and the ambience tranquil.
