Baan Souy is for sale (link below). This was my twice yearly place to stay - had some great times.

And on the market for B125,000,000 ( just over £3million in UK Sterling) - cheap at half the price eh !

Unfortunately what they didn't say was that all those lovely pics, carefully taken when there were no customers around to ruin the shots were taken last week probably !! :-(

I wonder if sold will it remain "gay".....as I think of late even with the owner it had that tag was starting to gently slip away too even, hence the need for the sale perhaps?

The price does seem somewhat unrealistic however, as things continue to change I do think gay resorts here will no longer thrive but making it an all inclusive holiday destination exclusively for Chinese might just work.

My god Id imagine you'd need to be GIVING someone £3 million to take THAT idea on perhaps ! :-( Can you imagine the chaos !

I would be nervous of putting my hand to any legal agreement with the vendor.

Yeah, one minute you might think you have a sound deal and the next minute it could be gone again - in a puff of "smoke" ! As things can always change so fast in Thailand it seems.......

Gosh I am really sad to see this property slip away. Madame Jim put so much of his stylish and elegant design into this place. I know it was/is his pride and joy. He timed the sale of Boys-Boys-Boys (yes with an "s") just right, at the peak of BT's popularity and did a great job with Baan Souy as well, but then COVID struck, the final nail it would appear in what was already a diminishing star. It's location was just not so great, alas, a location neither here nor there, if you get my point. Without an on-grounds playhouse (like Babylon in BKK), there was not so much to keep its (gay) clientele tied to the place, save Madame Jim's kindness and her stable of en-suite 'friendly' staff.

This transaction is just another indication of the sea-change happening in our Sin City, in case anybody needs any more reminding. Our remaining venues traffic in the same old tired formulae from 1990 - gay "resort", gay "massage" spot, boring "go-go" bar, uninteresting "beer" bars. Can't someone please dream up a new exciting new formula appropriate for today's connected younger people? Without being able to attract the 30-somethings (okay, and the 40-somethings) en masse all is lost. It seems the only going concern now may be the extravagant "show bar" which does attract the rich young Asian crowd to see muscle boys or katoey lip-sync'ers.

The return of mass tourism by middle-aged and elderly sodomites is months if not years away. Venue owners can hardly be expected to underwrite businesses for such a lengthy period.

I heard that the gay Le Prive had been sold. Only six bungalows around a pool, it was always a great place to stay and welcomed joiners at any time. A little on the pricey side but I enjoyed several stays there. Anyone know if it is still for gays?

I'd imagine it's a distressed sale, if selling the resort at this stage in the cycle.

You're right about the neither here nor there location. Other than Sansuk, there's nothing of interest nearby. Even Sansuk is of limited interest, since they don't have a huge discount for the cute Asians who are needed as the bait to attract the fish.

As for tired old formulae to attract customers, gogo bars haven't even kept the best of the old formulae. The standards in gogo bars have slipped. Problems vary from bar to bar, but can include fat boys covered in tattoos, overdressing, pressurizing customers by pushing for tips way above the market rate, moping around on stage with little movement or allowing the boys to all go outside for a smoke so the stage is empty. If a bar listed out what has worked in the past & applied it all, they might just do better. Plus go and plagiarise a few ideas from the surviving bars, gay & straight.

Also a good chance of losing your fingers or spending a few years in another hotel.

The trouble with pattaya ,gay scene is that its now relieing on the over 45 market , while the straight or ladyboy side of things, has guys from about late 20 upwards, with more money to burn,.The younger gay age group in europe tend to go to place such as gran caneria where the beaches are better and the night life more dance driven and bars with decent dark rooms , which pattaya could never have

Someone should buy it, and turn it into a stylish, hedonistic gay mecca.

- All staff are cute, gay (or gay for pay) Asian lads shirtless and wearing only tight fitting trousers. Checking in? Cute, young Asian lad wearing only a smile and trousers. Order room serive? Again, cute, young Asian lads wearing nothing but a smile and trousers delivers to your room.
- Open a few beer bars on premise with differing atmospheres and music genres.
- Open a massage shop or two on premise.
- No need for go-go bars, as you'll basically be living in one.
- Have weekly events, such as the boys mud wrestling naked for your viewing pleasure, foam parties, the boys horribly lip-syncing to shitty music which doesn't matter because they're gorgeous and you're drunk, and so on.
- Have private party rooms complete with optional food / catering, bartender, beds, and the whole bit.

Ohhh, the possibilities are endless...

This is by far the most significant reason behind the death and dying of gay Pattaya however, this has been the case for many years now, Jomtien Complex looks like an old age home with boys hoping to latch on to some old tosser and reap the financial benefits of his passing.

That's one way of looking at it. However, some "old tossers" deserve a last fling before they bugger off to an uncertain eternity while some of the guys prefer spending their time with a little money in their pockets. And, for most of the time they spend in Pattaya, with like-minded friends. After all, only 5% of their time is spent with old tossers. That leaves plenty of time for socialising. And sanuk.

And then, as mentioned above, there are the lucky minority who find a life-partner whose money will end up in their own pockets when the elderly gent is gone. I know one such Thai guy man who will have a very comfortable life in few years time.

I, for one, don't look at the Jomtien scene with undiluted cynicism, bearing in mind what sort of life these guys would live without us, nor how dull life is for us without them.....as we've been discovering for ten months.

In pre and (I hope post) Covid times, we are all winners. And unlike the Thai ladies who retire, they return to their homes with an unsullied reputation and able, if they so wish, to find a wife.

Which begs the question was Jomitien / any gay bar in Pattaya ( or the whole of even straight Pattaya for that matter) EVER anything else ??
