I’m reminded of the (possibly apocryphal) story about the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police advising Churchill* when Prime Minister that one of his Cabinet ministers had been caught one evening having sex with a guardsman in St James’ Park. On having it confirmed that the night in question was the coldest of that winter so far Churchill replied, “It makes you proud to be British”.
