Have heard that Euro Boys boss 'Yo' is planning to open new bar (or something) in Jomtien Complex just up from Double Shot on opposite side of soi . Anybody 'on the ground' can confirm or update? Not sure if he is also keeping Euro Boys open in Sunee or if this is likely to be a move to Jomtien from Sunee. Couple of lads I know have given some info but very unclear.

Do we need another drinking bar in the Complex? I anticipate some bar closures, and don't even suggest a go-go as they are banned in Jomtien.

Banned. Except for the straight gogo bar just across the road from the complex. Or what looks suspiciously like another straight gogo on the little alley between the complex and Dongtan beach.

Might I suggest the following format ? They could even call it a cabaret bar, as a competitor to The Venue.

Yes I agree, as there seems to be more than enough bars there already. But as I had only minimal info I don't know if it is a bar or perhaps some kind of food outlet as that was mentioned by one of the lads I know, or even if he is not opening another new bar but simply taking over an existing one. I do know he is kitting out some kind of premises there, hopefully somebody who is a regular in Jomtien can ask around.

One thing about the boss 'Yo' is that he is very popular with both visiting overseas customers, expat farangs and the boys themselves as he is very fair minded and generous with drink commissions and looks out for the boys who operate out of Euro Boys.

Thanks in advance for anyone who can give an update.

As the lights are about to go out in Sunee I suspect if the present situation continues on till next year the “Mighty Erection” will need more than a large dose of viagra to prevent many bars in the complex from avoiding the same fate as Sunee.

My understanding is the new establishment will be some sort of food outlet. Perhaps also offering some drinks. I have not spoken with Yo and only basing my info on reports from others.

The Euroboys brand is not what it was.
OK, the boys were never EUROpean, which is a damn good thing, but at least they had BOYS. Dressed in white underwear, which was very easy on the eye.
Then it became just another host bar, but at least they kept the Boys.

Having a Euroboys food joint would be a bit like KFC converting to selling knickers, or Starbucks moving from coffee to DIY.

A serious question I've never understood. What exactly is the difference between a "drinking bar" and a "go-go bar"?

1. Skimpier clothes
2. No "shows"
3. No shuffling of feet (I fear to use the word dancing)
4. No formal "off" fines
5. All of the above?

So, of these "rules", Venus in JC violates 1, 2, 3 and probably 4 as well.

Not sure where the confusion comes in.

A gogo bar has boys in underwear (sometimes nude) dancing on stage, with off fee's set by the bar.

A host bar (you refer to as "drinking bar") has boys dressed casually who serve you drinks, join you for drinks, and entice you to off them. Off fee's are also set by the bar.

Host bars in Thailand typically pay less tea money to the boys-in-brown for their operations. Where gogo bars typically pay higher amounts based on the size of the business.

An old friend, the infamous "Monty" from Australia, opened a bar in Jomtien Complex years ago under the auspice of being a small cabaret, although it was fitted with a small dance stage...had 3-4 boys dancing on stage in their underwear...no different than a gogo.
Great fun...an atmosphere like the old Eros Bar in Sunee where anything goes. This is what JC needs. If only Monty could return.

Back in the Good Old Days, there were plenty of go go bars in Pattaya but only a handful of host bars. Panorama and Mandate (though it had a small go go bar upstairs) are the two I remember in Boyztown from my salad days.

The fact that the host bars now decisively outnumber go go bars now reflects the willingness of the guys to dance publicly (something that stopped fifteen years ago in most bars to be replaced by standing) but more directly their diffidence when it comes to exposing themselves in their underwear. They are more choosey....in some ways, the buyers' market has become a sellers' one as recruitment becomes more difficult..

Unfortunate, the apps mostly cater to the fem gay boys and those that like them.......YUCK!
If a boy is in Jomtien Complex there is a high probability he is among these.

Oh yes. It's sooo hard to recruit boys for go go bars. That's why in normal times Nice Boys has 20+ boys, Winner Boys has 20+ boys, Toy Boys has 30+ boys, Cupidol has 30+ boys and Dynamite has 20+ boys, Eros had 15+ boys and Goosboys where they would be virtually naked in the bar had 15+ boys.

Nothing to do with recruitment. Everything to do with customers and BiB service charges.

I was referring to the 90s....well before your time, Arsenal! Cockpit had fifty plus, BBB a hundred or so (and that's no exaggeration.....you'd have to spend two hours or so to see the complete rotation) Toyboys between fifty and seventy. That's just in Boyztown proper. And A-Bomb in the neighbouring soi had the same number. Every night.

The bar owners would meet the Isaan buses in Bangkok and offer accommodation and jobs. The guys would step off the bus wide-eyed , seduced by the interest shown and the resultant offers. Until about 1997/8, the legal age for bar-workers was sixteen. This made a difference.. .they were coming straight from school.

There is really no comparison. And remember these were Thais ; the influx from Laos and Cambodia came much later and reflected the difficulties owners were having attracting staff.

Remember when Monty had more boys in his swimming pool in the middle of any given afternoon - than all the boys working in bars now combined.

The original Euro Boys, as small as it was inside, still had at least 20 boys on stage....and they were all HOT! Sorry to hear it's moving. Sorry for a lot of things.

And remember these were Thais ; the influx from Laos and Cambodia came much later and reflected the difficulties owners were having attracting staff.
The pool of young Thai lads from which to pick staff is shrinking.

Firstly, the birth rate is falling. See chart below for Thailand (source: macrotrends.net)
In 1970, it was 38 births per thousand people, which is providing the staff for around 1990.
In 2000, it is down to 14.8 births per thousand people, which is providing staff for now.
That's less than half.

Secondly, obesity is more widespread. Walking past some educational establishments, I would estimate that at least a third of the lads for the next generation are too fat for the profession. If I'm offing a lad from a bar, I want to be living the dream & hiring a very handsome specimen, not some fat pig.

Thirdly, living standards achievable from other professions increase.

Fourthly, when they come to Pattaya, some quickly learn that they can earn a living from phone apps, with no need to go near a bar.

Hiring lads from Laos and Cambodia gets around the first 3 problems.

2004 my first visit to Pattaya. Probably 30-40 go go bars and loads of boys in every one. Most gone now. The boys disappeared with the tourists. Fill your go go bar with 100 paying offing customers every night and just see how many boys want to work there. You'd be turning them away.

Numbers aren't everything. I sat in Funny Boys with Gary from CB as 40 odd boys shuffled past on stage and neither of us was interested in any of them. The same in Thai Gentleman's Club. In many ways I prefer it now. Nice to look a bit for the one you really like, exciting is the hunt, the anticipation, the thrill.

Funny, in all my visits to Funny Boys I never saw anything worth offing however, the hunting was excellent as there was no shortage of desirable prey.

In many ways, Funny Boys was my favourite....quiet music, dancing guys (sort of), clean toilets, polite staff, comfortable seating. Perfect. Except, that I never found a guy whom I found attractive there. The straight /gay "thing" wasn't right for me. I remember a flirtatious girl arriving. All the guys clustered around her.... except one poor bugger who silently retired to a corner. I assume he was the "token gay" Or, as British posters will understand, "the only gay in the village".

By the way, goji is right to stress the importance of the decline in birth-rate. This was the result of a successful contraception campaign in the 80s. No Catholics to get in the way. It meant that the families were more manageable in size so that the fourth, fifth etc kids didn't have to leave home in their teens to get fed.

Another important factor was Thaksin. A lot more money was diverted to poor areas in the north when he was PM. Significantly, electricity was provided. P's family was connected in around 2000- a huge event in his family's life. Concrete houses were built in the poorest villages and health provision was massively improved. Life improved inordinately .

I don't know what Gentleman's Club in Pattaya are you talking about. But when I went to Pattaya for the first time (it was 1986 or 1987, not sure) it was a Gentleman's Club owned by a Norwegian gentleman that had quite a lot of very young boys, and most of them were very attractive and willing. Unfortunately the owner had problems with the police and closed the bar. I don't know if the club you are talking about is the same or not.

In 2004 it was owned by a Swiss guy named Robert who carried a wad of cash 10 cm thick with him. He too had police trouble for precisely the reasons you mentioned.

He ended up getting arrested, deported, and blacklisted. That was after he gave up the bar. He lived on "The Dark Side". A year or so later he was caught by the police at home with under age boys. This time his wad of cash did not help him.

I'm not sure, but I believe he was not able to bribe his way out of it this time was because he was either reported by neighbors or by the parents of some of those boys. The police weren't playing any games, probably because there was media publicity about it. To the best of my recollection there was never publicity when he was running his bar, but there was plenty when he was caught with under age boys in his home.

Unsure of this timetable. I arrived in Pattaya in 1990,and the reputation of underage boys was well known. But the owners of BBB were previous owners of Gentlemens Club. Then they opened BBB which was roaring in 1990/1991 But it would appear that the Norwegian guy sold? BBB bought and resold perhaps to Robert

He wasn’t Norwegian I believe he was from Belgium and he would sit at the bar and glare at the customers while his grotesque mamasan would throw a boy in your lap and tell you to buy a drink, I went once that was enough but there was a bar a few doors down called Thai Boys which was quite good.

Yes I can confirm the boss of Euroboys is opening a bar and small restaurant in Supertown, earlier known as Jomtien complex. From what I understand they will be serving hamburgers, hotdogs and the likes. The place is currently under renovation and was before a bar and restaurant with german food.
Euroboys bar in Sunee plaza will remain open according to the plan, so it is not a move.

The 'fish' comment made me chuckle.

In the good old days of Le Cafe Royale, Ian, the co-owner, would sit on his stool at the bar and scream, "FISH!!!!" whenever a woman entered the bar before turning to nearest boy waiter adorned in the regulation livery of white shorts and pink shirt and ask, "What colour, darlin'?" He was, as we know, enquiring after the colour of the boy's pants. Eh, as most responsible employers in up-market venues are inclined to do!

Despite the signs,I doubt this name will catch on. It doesn't imply "gay" or "boys/boyz" or "love" or "sex" or "entertainment" or "relaxation". It's branding power therefore is likely to be zero/zilch.
