View Full Version : Any advice for falling in love with the cute Thai boy who works at the bar? (humorous story)

I don't think he speaks much English, and the bar staff are all extremely short and quiet with the tourists. After exchanging eye contact for a few days I built up the courage to tell him "Phom rak khun" when he passed me in the hallway outside the bathroom. He smiled, maybe said thank you (I was too nervous to tell).

After that he didn't return any sign of interest (but seemed to be slightly lingering around the bathroom area). Was I supposed to follow him? I had a gut feeling that I was supposed to follow him, 100% certain I blew it, but I feared that I was just another drunken tourist abusing power and privilege, hitting on the bar staff (I'm shy). I wasn't looking for just a lewd favor in the bathroom (though I would have welcomed it--maybe he wanted money?). I really wanted to adopt this Thai boy, take him to Krabi for a week, then go to Bangkok together, find work, live together in an apartment, snuggling and teaching each other Thai/English every night.

I think he's in a gang: he's a bad boy with an earring, gold necklace, slick hair. The rest of the bar staff are all goons who dress in black and function sort of like prison guards in a white monkey jail. So he has a reputation to maintain around his mates, and I fear my attraction may have already triggered alarms (Do you think they're gossiping about it?)

The situation got too awkward and I haven't been back in a few days. But wondering if I wait a while that I could give it another shot and still save face. This is in Krabi, btw.

Advice welcome, kha

Don't fall in love in Thailand if you want one rent it.

There are 3 warning signs why not to fall in love with this boy :
First, he didn't respond to your statement to him.
Second, he is money boy.
Third, his is member of a gang.
Nevertheless I think you made a mistake if you did fancy him so much you should ask him to do long term vacation with you and ask if he's willing to do it and for how much ,In the worst case he would decline the offer. If he would agree you would spend a wonderful vacation with your dreams boy !

Move on and forget. Head to somewhere with more fish available. A flight to Utapao is probably the quickest way.

Buy an apartment in Bangkok in his name...that will ensure you have his undying love for the rest of your life. Oh,also just help out the family a little bit as well, you know a newly built house in the village...something to impress the neighbours of course...not a little shack if you please! When thats all sorted , just toddle off to your home country and get to work, with monthly payments sent to your new found cutie. He can save that money in the bank to build a nice nest egg for your future together. In the meantime cutie will stay at home all alone every night in downtown bumfuck nowhere waiting for you.

And they all lived happily ever after. aww shucks.

Give him your phone number / Line / Facebook some way to contact you and take your conversation there.

How long will you be there, i.e. are you pressed for time with this boy?

"he's a bad boy with an earring, gold necklace, slick hair"

Never judge what a Thai boy is like by how he looks. Many of the gay scene boys look like they're got up ready for a 19th century war but are in fact delightful company. And anyway, who doesn't like a warrior in the bedroom?

Plenty of falangs on the scene look just the same as your friend. A bit older though. And their gangs tend to be drinking or bridge groups.

I'm not sure if he is actually in a gang, he just looks like a bad boy, has a bad attitude. I like that.

To clarify, he doesn't work at a gay bar. Just a club with mostly straight people, but many gays passing through. How easy is it to flip a "straight" guy in Thailand?

Really just looking for a cute boy to cuddle with, though sex is inevitable. I have nothing to offer him--not much money--except for my good looks, and maybe the promise of a modest apartment on a crappy ESL income...

If I find the courage I'll go back and visit him in a few weeks. Maybe some time away will provide perspective.

I already fell in love again last night at the night market--cute boy was staring me down, wincing from what I interpreted to be painful desire and helplessness.

Although funnily I've never yet seen ANY of those bridge groups ever build and ACTUAL bridge ! It's like those guys who join a motorcycle club or a ferrari owners group but dont actually own a Ferrari - all just a bluff if you ask me, dont know about you but I've a funny feeling that they dont even TALK about Bridges in their "bridge clubs" and in fact it's all just a cover for married men to go drinking and watch porn movies together ! Chancers the lot of them if you ask me !

NO not at all, I dont even know him or would recognise him. Nor near anyone of the other regulars. Can only say that pong=pong also on other baords, as is christian too.

Perhaps pong is related to ping as in the game of ping-pong, batting back and forth ad infinitum.

Embarrassing backpacker bar/club in Ao Nang.

Average patron is 18 year old who just flew into Krabi on a direct flight from Amsterdam leaving tomorrow for Ko Phi Phi and will be in Bali by next week. The bar staff are silent while the drunken backpackers play ping pong and screw each other in the toilets. I found myself more attracted to the cute Thai boy at the bar than the teenyboppers from Europe, though I got hit on at least 4 times in as many days and straight up invited to bed by a hot 20-something drunken blond girl from Cali at 2 AM before I gracefully evaded her.

Might be worth investigating the difference between love and lust before you get yourself into hot water.

5 beer or 500 Baht.

Joking. It depends on your personality. I friend of mine is good with people, and he doesn't speak any foreign language other than English, and he gets boy everywhere (Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, India, Morocco).

INDIA !!! I'd love to hear more about that venture. Sounds very interesting. I am aware there would be BO issues but I'd still be interested.
No offence to Indian posters but ( BO ) is a very common complaint from westerners about indians.

...best advice is to pay him a monthly retainer...like minimum bht500/day which is double the average wage...this way he will love u long time ...as in as long as the cash arrives...best is weekly payments so that his interest is piqued constantly and often...naturally he is free to flutter around and visit other flowers when u r away...afterall one cannot live on bread and water only and buffaloes are very fragile creatures that tend to die at the most inopportune times...naturally when u r in town he's all yours..afterall he love you long time...

My friend says he had more luck in Mumbai then in Calcutta. He says Indians are clean. Most of them are hairy (not a problem for him, but for me!). Best to rent an apartment as locals cannot accompany foreigners to hotel rooms.

Thanks,for reply and advice.
Actually if hairy...that would put me off also. And unlike Thais / SEA, they tend to age quickly,so I'd need a guy over 18 and under 20...bit of a tight squeeze... so to speak!
But if I got the right one...
