The Pattaya list with 377 lines, contains question marks and possible mistakes. I hope you can help to make it perfect. If you want to add or correct bars or locations, please make sure that it’s the right info. I hope you get back memories and hope for younger generations that they know Pattaya was once a paradise to the fullest; it still is in a way

The Pattaya list above with some 377 lines for everybody to see, contains some question marks and possible mistakes. I hope you can help to make it perfect. If you want to add or correct bars or locations, please make sure that it’s, for sure, the right info. I hope you enjoy getting back some memories and hope for younger generations that they know Pattaya was once a paradise to the fullest; it still is in a way . If you like this post, please press: “ Like “ … because it was a hell of a job If “like” a lot I might do all other places in Thailand except Bangkok (first gay bar 1956) I leave that for somebody else.
Under here are the BARS and the LOCATIONS in alphabetical order. I’ll try to keep the list updated. And please add besides names or places also PICTURES from the good days. And PLEASE don’t go off the topic !!!

Well done Halcyon! You have quite clearly put considerable time and effort into researching and compiling the list of gay and go-go bars in Pattaya. One could say it looks like a labour of love. Congratulations!

In gay whoremonger boy chasing willy tickling Pattaya prancing offing 'n' fucking terms it reads like a WW1 memorial. Perhaps we could add ages, just to highlight the carnage.

Happy Place. 3 years 5 months.
Jungle Boys. 11 months.
Prisms Bar. 1 year 1 Month.

Etc etc.

Now let’s look at how many gay establishments currently exist:

Boyztown........10?
Sunee..............10?
Jomtien............25?
Odds and sods...5
Not an accurate count by probably not far off the mark.

So of the 377 listed only about 50 remain. Rest gone.

An appalling loss rate wouldn’t one say..even if it is over about 30 years.

How depressing!

I think I'll just look to the future and not concern myself with what we have lost. It's all too sad.

But thanks, Halcyon, for the incredible effort you have put into your research, not to mention the time you put into typing it all up.

Thanks Halcyon....that was a job worth doing! I've just dug-out my copy of the Michael Burchill book about the formation of Boyztown with its appendix of gay bars (now out of date, of course) and will do some comparisons.

Depressing, certainly, but somewhat misleading. I wonder what the maximum number of bars that ever existed AT ANY ONE TIME is. More than 50, no doubt, but as many as 100? I doubt it. Sunee's loss is Jomtien's gain, for instance. I'm not suggesting there's not a big decline, but maybe the picture is not quite as bleak as it looks at first glance.

I think you missed this place on Third Road. “So Dom for Men” didn’t last long as a Gay S&M Club and soon reverted to a straight venue (The main bar always was straight).

My first visit to Pattaya was in 1985 or 1986 - only a few Gay bars here at that time. I met my present bf in 1991, he worked at the Ambiance Hotel coffee shop. At that time, the Amor (Boystown) was a Go Go bar - later becoming the restaurant - Richard Burk, owner of the restaurant told me because the sign was already there, he kept Amor as the name of his restaurant.

Another place not mentioned is the Homex Inn - this was a Gay hotel in North Pattaya with a pool bar frequented by free lancers. There was another bar in North Pattaya, the name escapes me, but it was perhaps the first gay bar, in Pattaya - but I think I would recognize the name if it were on the list - maybe someone will recall its name -- the boys dressed in street clothes unless they were dancing - sitting on the front of the stage. They also had soapy body massage shows.

Also, near Gentleman's Club was another bar called My Way - not sure but I think it was later became the Why Not (which is on the list).

Oliver2
February 1st, 2020, 17:09
I always suspected that Why Not was reflecting a famous bar in Amsterdam....and, by the way, that scene has declined almost as dramatically as Pattaya's.

I believe that Adam & Eve was considered to be the first gay bar in Pattaya, certainly the first outside Boyztown..

More so I would say. There used to be 5 brothels that I can remember and now here’s only one and it’s tiny.

Since I can't insert "new" Bars into the list, I have to keep them to myself for a while. But here are the latest: Amor GoGo (BT 3rd Soi, later restaurant, now Cupido), My Way (BT 1st Soi, later Why Not), Homex Inn (The Poolbar) Naklua, Soi 20) and SoDom for Men (no idea where) Thank you for adding :)

it depends on how much further you want to take the project

perhaps have a chat with Moses - the Sawatdee Network main site has a History of Gay Thailand section, he may be able to offer some way of you keeping an updated list online there and you could post a link in this thread in the forums when there is an update

Excellent list Halycon, I can see it has been a real labour of love!
Some suggested changes and additions below, please don't take anything I have written as a criticism, just trying to help make your list as accurate as possible

Missing Gay Clubs
Triangle super club, Alcazar Complex - this was a temporary location for Dave Man Club, but eventually opened on its own

T&T, Soi Yensabai, started as a karaoke, but eventually became a 2 shophouse wide club and was THE location for late night pickups

The Club in Soi Lengkee, replaced T&T as the go to venue, but had their pricing model wrong, so barely lasted a year

Butterfly Karaoke Dance Club, Soi day night one, another one that started as a Karaoke but morphed into a club

Muze (same premises as I-dol club and now G-Star),this was an attempt to recreate Daveman club but ended up burning down

Hole in one, this was on Soi Buakow Market square and was another popular after hours spot around 2002-2003

Suggested corrections
There were 2 bars called Euroboys in the same location, first was a gogo, second is the current beer bar which opened some years later under different ownership

There were 2 X-Ray clubs. The second one was 2 Sois north of the original in North Pattaya

Marine, Disco duck, x-zyte, hollywood etc are straight clubs which were sometimes frequented by Gays. If they are on the list then Tumnan Issan, Sinlapin Issan and Champ Issan should all be added to the list, all of which attract (or attracted) a 50+ gay crowd

I don't think there was ever a bar called N.boys. When K.boys closed and Nice boys opened, they were too mean/poor to replace the neon sign, so they simply changed the K in the K.BOYS sign to an N so it read N.BOYS

I think Wonder bar was Wunderbar (German owners)

I think Donna Bar is called 2Donna bar?

The location of Nok Nok was in the same premises as Clubber/Jungle boys (or possibly Nok Nok had 2 locations?)

Add Home bar should be @Home Bar also sometimes written as At Home)

New Sawadee was next to 7-11 at Sunee, not in same location as Butts boys

The full name for Magic City boys was Murphys magic city boys

I'm sure I will think of other locations later, but just a quick brain dump for now

PS. If someone is in contact with Madame Jim, perhaps they can share the list with him, I'm sure he would have loads to add!

Thanks ColmX, just great  Missing Clubs, Yes. Suggested: The disco's were at least frequented a lot by me and there were so many gays :)) Wunderbar yes, my mistake with Wonderland. Nok Nok was for sure Villa Rouge/Kaos. Nice Boys agree totally but the sign for those who don't know is N.Boys. New Sawadee was opp. Sunee Soi 2. but before it was Butts I think or otherwise another name for sure. Add / @home yes. Magic yes. 2Donna, I just walked past it before I saw your post, will soon look again

I just thought of one other "New Moonlight house" it was on second road, around the corner from X-boys current location and an updated version of moonlight

This page shows up a few more long forgotten bars from 2002
http://web.archive.org/web/20021014225128/http://www.pattayagay.com/nightclubs.html
Young Guns, Cruising Bar, Pinnochio, Aurelio's Bar, Roy's Boys @ The Sunset Lounge amonst others

Here is one from 2000:
http://web.archive.org/web/20000510225329/http://www.pattayagay.com/main.html

And 2005:
http://web.archive.org/web/20050215031417/http://www.pattayagay.com/nightclubs.html

You can similarly use the archive.org site to see archived copies of Dreaded Ned etc.

The pic blow shows that Nok Nok was next to the Marina pool - which I suppose indicates that Nok Nok had 2 locations?

There was a group of bars on the Day-Nite Plaza. I don't see World Boys (and later there was World Boys I and II). It was there a first met Rose (later mamasan at Funny Boys 2). Funny Boys first opened in Day - Nite and later added Funny Boys 2 in BT. Funny Boys 2 became just Funny Boys when bought by Panorama I believe.

Thats agreat job indeed. Not wanting to settle you up with even more, but it would have been informative to quote the yrs when they were (approxx.) operating-or perhaps just (as you said it mainly comes from old Spartacus) the yrs of publications (often years behind actual closing though).
There si certainly 1 missing/not mentioned as I have some specific good memories from it:
FILOU (a german/berlin slang name for a young guy doing naughty things) in Sunee, for maybe 2 years shortly before 2000/2001. Bar beer, open terrrace and enclosed inside, as so many bars there. Run by an elder german gentleman. Must have the namecard at home, as I explained before will not be back home before march. But it may also have used another name, probably also german sounding.

Siren Bar - I may have missed it but I don't think anyone has mentioned the gay part of Siren Bar located at the beginning of Walking Street beside the old pier. Most of it was lady bars but there were 2 gay bars towards the back. In the middle was a muay thai boxing ring which featured amateur boxers...some quite young. One of the owners of a gay section was Pim(?) who later became the owner of the green chair bar in Sunee. If you walked past the beer bars you came to a restaurant over looking Pattaya bay.

Seeing so many different maps and different bar names already: Not all bar names are written right (so probably also not by me) and locations of bars are sometimes not well placed on maps. But as long as we get very close to perfect, it's ok. There was only 1 Nok Nok, a 2nd one I could not have survived, great :)) To find the years of opening and closing is even a more demanding task than "just" names and locations. So when the years come by, I'll add them later. Filou is on the list, as it's name is Le Filou. Siren Bar is on the list. Thanks all for contributing, we'll get there :clapping:

I believe that Adam & Eve was considered to be the first gay bar in Pattaya, certainly the first outside Boyztown..

Thanks - that was the bar I could not remember the name - it was in existence in 1985/86 - my first trip to Pattaya - at that time, there was no Boystown -- only Gentleman's Club and My Way on Pattayaland Soi 1 - no gay bars on Pattayaland Soi 3 (Boystown) at that time. I was told that Adam & Eve was the first gay bar in Pattaya.

“Wild West Boys” had an earlier existence before moving to the large and now empty building on Soi 2. That venue was originally “Wild West Girls” which changed its name to “Wild West Boys” and kept many of the interior fittings and a lot of the exterior stuff as well.

The original “Wild West Boys” was a small narrow bar but I can’t remember exactly where but it was in the Pattayaland area. It closed very quickly and moved to its much larger premises. I knew one of the Go Go Boys well and one of the guys who danced in the show. I used to sit with them in their changing room which was great fun. Sadly the bar went into a swift decline and is now a sad looking empty hulk.

It was near the corner of Pattayaland 2, I believe. Very narrow! The guys used to appear on the stage for dancing via a fireman's pole. Yes, really.

Glad someone else remembers it. I think it was on the other side of the small Soi almost opposite the now closed Vassa Bar. I was taken there by a guy who had worked at "Tai Boys Boys" which had just closed. (Why did they spell it "Tai"?).

That's interesting. Kawaii was certainly very narrow like the original Wild West Boys. I just can't remember now if the two bars were the same place.

789 Dragon, the short lived (2018-2019?) successor of Good Boys.

I once made a similar list for gay saunas in Bangkok (details on my blog). From over 40 that I found on the internet, about 30 were open when I made the list in 2016 (?), and now about 20 are left.

Whereas gay massage scene is thriving with more openings and closing than I can follow (only a side theater of war for me).

"For Love": this one is very obscure and was very short lived. In, I'd guess, about the late 1990s/early 2000s, some entrepreneur decided to set up a gay go-go bar on Soi 6 (off Second Road, up towards Big C) - a road otherwise associated exclusively with girlie bars. Although it was fitted out quite attractively and employed about a dozen nice looking boys, it enjoyed no passing gay trade and I was always the only customer. It closed very quickly and had been so much a flash in the pan that when I looked for it on my next visit, the girls in the neighbouring bars all denied that there'd ever been a gay bar in the area at all..

G-U-Y gay bar on Walking Street, estimated 2015-2017. It closed before Wild West Boys closed, one of the boys I fancied in G-U-Y worked in Wild West Boys afterwards. I have picture of the bar somewhere, I think in Thai it was spelled letter-by-letter (as indicated in English by the dashes). I don't remember if it was gogo or beer bar with show, the boys used to be shirtless but in jeans outside.

I think with more than 400 bars and gogo's on the list now, I'm nearing the end, but still a few questions to ask:

What was the name of a short lived bar on Thapraya Road just outside the Complex, opposite La Boca Restaurant ?? It was only a month open or so.

In Soi 16 between 2nd Road and Walking Street there was a gay bar (now arabic place) what was it's name??

Around 1985 there was a gay place named Stary Night. Do you know the location ?

T & T was a bar in Soi Yensabai. Do you know where in that Soi?

When the mind is set at the right way then no.But then I did walk around there and was quite amused, if not bewildered by the sights then&there-even if already accustomed to the views in Patpong or soi 8/11 Sukhumvit here in BKK.
BTW-in more tipical Thai local places the gay places are most often just mingled among the many more str8 places (KaraOK and all that, massage) so that a customer can easily claim to have been the opposite if asked where he went, or if his car was seen. or perhaps its also easy for the guys to find their spouse after the job has been done! looking at that the move here in BKk from soi TwiLi to Patpong fits in this picture.

Most likely as there may have been a fair lot of hilltribeys from the TAI tribe. But thats just a guess. Or it was a pun. or it was-as so often happens, just a minor error of the painter/boardmaker.

No, I am more into that branch but sadly have to report that there yes indeed, are an awful lot of closures and changes, by the month, but the total is slowly but quite surely reducing. But changes are even higher in number as for sauna+other combined. PLUS that it often seems that places close down for a few monthes or so, maybe if they cannot find willing guys and then reopen with replenished supply (often from VN or Cambodia nowawadys). of the 40+ such places Ive been to in BKK here at least 25 have bitten the dust already. That is-real m2m with that service assured, not the hybrid ones where you are never sure about what/whom/etc. in the Silom ghetto and that most often also have ladies-there yes they are multiplying. I mean those that you dispise as you cannot see outside who is working and available inside-for that they now all have LINE or so, so you do not even have to get out for nothing and can check it in your room.

@ WHY NOT. No it was not specifically named after an AMS brothel with same name, attached to a gay cinema with same name and sometimes even called out by tramconductors as there was a stop right in front (both cinema and tramstop are no more). Its simply a name that was oso common in about every city with a thriving gay commerce. Bar/agogo with same namy was also a very long time just off RamIV rd near the busstops in BKK. Same same for Adonis and Apollo.

I remember going into a bar in that area. The drinks receipts had a number on them and they drew a raffle every hour and you could win a prize. I won a free drink on my only visit. I have no recollection of the name.

There's a lot about Harrod's in Michael Burchill's book. It was defunct before my arrival in '95 but I recall that the Boyztown sign still advertised it years after.

I remember that bar in Soi 16....in fact, I was there at its closing down party. I think that it had "16" in its name.

G-U-Y gay bar on Walking Street, estimated 2015-2017. It closed before Wild West Boys closed

G-U-Y bar closed in November or December 2013. I know because I was on holiday in Pattaya in December that year with the intention of visiting that bar but could not find it in Walking street. A few days later I was in Wild west boys and was told by the staff there that G-U-Y had just closed shortly before my arrival and many of the boys were relocated to Wild west boys. I think it was a very short-lived bar, 6 months maybe?

Last October I noticed a unique signage in English and Chinese in the gaily lit Walking Street. A tout was quick to grab my arm and led me twenty metres into a side street to a brightly decorated bar, but we were refused entry unless we paid 300b for a drink. A few minutes later we tried to enter just for a look and luckily this time the doorman relented. Maybe it was still too early but anyhow the room was empty, with just a bare, low and small stage near the entrance. There were fully clothed boys sitting at the tables outside. Had I paid for the drinks I suppose the boys would have come to the stage inside. Since I was not keen to wait until 2am for the place to come to life, I bid farewell to the tout and never came back. I guess the bar was meant for ladies looking for male company. When I returned in December the signage was gone.

That business model deserves to fail and fail fast.

Reminds me of a google maps customer review on a Chiang Mai massage place, where apparently the customer couldn't get to see the massage boys until after paying. The correct response is to go elsewhere.

Common Massage by chance? I had a similar experience there, see my upcoming post in my blog (Gay Activities December 2019).

Similar experience in the the gogo bar that was in the basement of Wall Street Tower (diagonally across the entrance of Soi Twilight). Within a year, that place changed name and business model several times before finally closing. I tried to enter at least once and doorman would not let me in unless I pay upfront (which I didn't).

Eighteen months ago, the procedure at Common Massage was to pay up-front for the massage and then pay the masseur after the event. However, the masseur was chosen before the transaction. There about eight to choose from in mid-afternoon. Perhaps this has changed.

T & T was a bar in Soi Yensabai. Do you know where in that Soi?

Soi Yensabai is known as "Pattaya Sai 2 Soi 18" on google maps
It borders the south of Sunee and then takes a dog leg near the old Happy Place location and past the old TwoGuys Location as per the highlighted section

T&T Pub is marked in with a Red X on the map, quite close to Pius Place Hotel. It usually got going round 4am with the survivors from NAB, Idol, Dave and Tumnan Issan (or even from Forest house) and was busy until 9am. A lot of the customers were staff and coyotes from the aforementioned clubs. It was such a shock to step out of the night club and into the full morning sun!

A recent street view of the 2 shophouses is also below, around the back is a volleyball area where boys can often be seen playing in the evening (or early morning back in T&T days)

Some responses....

D) Tree Zone is probably Three Zone, Sunee....at least sounds more likely!

F) According to Michael Burchill, Buddy's became Mandate/My Life/Oscars

G) Dangs was in Sunee

H) Eaw's was in 2nd Road, opposite Mike's...which Michael refers to as the "new" Mike's. I suspect that is the one next to Boyztown...it was certainly the home of Many Boys, one of the few places on the list which I actually visited!

J) "South Pattaya Road ,north of Junction with with North Road....."

Dang ran the Corner Bar (not Sunee Plaza Bar) which had a certain dubious reputation. A new bar is on its spot and I believe is called the Double Shot Bar (nothing to do with Dang or the old Corner Bar, which was akin to Spencer Tracy's Boystown. I recall reading in the Pattaya Mail that it was raided by the BIB, clearing our the 'dorms' upstairs. It shut many years ago in the mid 90s.

The Siren bar did indeed have two bars (now girlie bars) at the rear of the shed. Mama Pai (from the current Sunee Plaza bar) and Lek from the bar round the corner from Pai's current bar, worked the two bars. There were indeed only two gay bars there in those days, the rest catering for breeders.

Yes, the go-go bar off Soi Buakhao was on Soi Lengkee, about half way up the soi. It was called Cartier Boys. I offed a handsome boy from there, and in the usual pre off questions, I asked where he was from. I thought he replied China. I was baffled, as I knew he wasn't from China, but it was difficult to hear over the loud music. I asked again, and I heard China once again. After we got back to my room, I found out he was from Chainat Province. We both had a good laugh.

Due to the Covid 19, I didn't do much in the last year but there are a few changes to the list :

Divarium Cafe Bar & Restaurant in the Complex (former name was QM bar)

Double Shot Bar in the Complex replaced Man Bar as that one closed ... Double Shot Bar was before in Sunee Plaza, but moved to the Complex

As for the bars that were open last year, some will open again and some are closed and will not open again, as soon as things get clear I will update the total list

Soda Massage at the end or beginning (depends which side you come from) of the second soi in the Complex. Most of the boys can be taken home.

Not really a bar as such, but for me close enough - I would have included the gay area of Dongtan Beach. In its day, before the advent of the apps, boys galore and you could drink on the beach. No off fees. No higher prices for "drink for boy". No excessively loud music. No annoying mama-sans. The daytime place to go. Plenty of freelance boys who didn't work in the bars at all. And the boys were not wearing much more than they wore in the bars - sometimes even less.

It is truly sad so many bars have come and gone. Once things begin to return to normal, if they ever do, I'm hoping for "Deja vu all over again".

The amount of work and effort that has gone into this is impressive. Old Pattaya hands will, doubtless find plenty of memories stirred. It might be worthwhile separating the list of bars long-gone from those that are or may still be open, though. Those who are only casual visitors to Pattaya or perhaps are planning a visit at some point would then have a list of live bars. That could even be a mini list separate from the master list of bars o today and bars past. Just a thought.

It is a strange fact that despite Sawatdee now being quite Pattaya-centric, the casual visitor would be hard-pressed to find genuinely usable information about Pattaya on the forum anymore. There is very little about what separates one bar from another, for example. There is probably enough information that can be consolidated on this thread to start rectifying that.

Office Boy (earlier Niddy's Nook) in Day & Night Soi 2 (near Flamingo Hotel)closed
I went there 2010 or 2011, and it was gone 2011 or 2012?

Samorn Beer Bar on Sunee Plaza Soi VC (opposite Top Man Night Club) closed 2009
Samorn or Samong (I have a picture somewhere) is where I last saw LMTU in 2012, so closing is later than 2012.

Star Boys Boys (later X-Boys) in Boyz Town 1st Soi (opposite Dreamboys) closed
Star Boys Boys (moved later 3rd Soi ) on 2nd Road Soi 15 (opp.Boyz Town) (194/23) open 1996 closed

A place "Star Boys Showbar" opposite Kawaii was open around 2013 but did not last long.

I was there 2011 or 2012, and it closed shortly after.

As soon as Covid is under total control and tourists are coming back in numbers then people will invest again in bars, so I think there will be bars, that are closed now, will open again and new bars will emerge. But till then it's a bit unpredictable. When it's time that things are more sure, I'll post a list of all bars that are in full business.

Thank you, I will add some of your knowledge in the next update.

It was for sure Samorn Beer Bar (I have a picture too :)) ) in my honest opinion the boys moved to another place. The bar stayed open a bit longer, but as the boys went, the bar got ample customers.
You mention Star Boys Showbar but as far as I can remember it was Star Treff Showbar. The Star Boys never had a show as they were a show themselves :yahoo_mini:

If you go back in time further then there was nothing ... and nothing stays the same ... from a few bars in the Village to more in Boyz Town, then much more on Sunee Plaza and after that many in The Complex, what's next? ... shall I add the gay dating sites as well ?

As money in the hands of boys (and girls) is running scarce these days and foreigners are saving money there will be a time ahead that former bar boys come back from the countryside and take their friends or brothers with them. Good times ahead, yet the date is not set.

The amount of work and effort that has gone into this is impressive.

Couldn't agree more. Incredible list. Found some info from a Feb/March 2005 Thailand trip of places visited or noted.

Leks GoGo Day/Night Soi 1 was called 'Leks Fantasea Bar' .
'Love Club' was two units down from World Boys in Day/Night Soi 1, a gay disco/club/karaoke similar to World Boys.
'Yum Yum Bar' I think Sunee or soi's leading to Sunee, but don't have exact location.
'Murtey's Bar' (not Murpheys). Only a brief mention in notes with no location noted.

Whilst Boyz Town, Pattayaland Sois 1/2, Sunee and Jomtien have all been known as the main bar areas over the last 20 years, I always found it amazing just how many bars operated in the Day/Night sois over the years.

A remarkable list by Halcyon.

My understanding is:

Forest House, Sunee Plaza, Closed.

Diamond Bar, Sunee Plaza, Open?

As the holiday finished a while ago, I can't comment on current status.

However, Diamond Bar has definitely been open in 2021. I didn't see any signs of life at Forest House.
I thought Euro Boys host bar was open earlier in the year as well.

The only Pattaya gogo bars I've seen open in 2021 were Winner, Nice Boys, Cupidol (clothed!) and X-Boys (blokes in jeans, loud music catering to local tastes).

Panorama, Serene and Castro opened with very limited hours. e.g. Castro was opening one night a week.

Plus a street almost full of bars in Jomtien.

The current status is the status in the middle of the lockdown on 22 June 2021. Diamond bar, Euro Boys host Bar were open in the beginning of this year as was another gogo in BT named Dreamboys. But they had to close because of the lockdown of bars. We have to wait and see what will happen after the Covid lockdown(s). The infection numbers in June give not much hope for an opening soon, but who knows ?

Star boys started out on Soi "toyota karaoke", it's the street alongside the Welcome plaza hotel (Sai song Soi 15)
Later they moved to Pattaya land soi 1 and were opposite what eventually became kawaii boys. Eventually when star boys closed it became Star Treff Travestitie, which was a show bar

leks Fantasea and leks Gogo were 2 different bars. The Gogo bar was underneath the soi Day night annex eventually became Birdcage.

The Fantasea location was across the street and I believe is now block E of Mosaik (+/- 1-2 shophouse)

Yum Yum was "Tom Yum" and was over Forest house (it was known as ozone at one stage and now has a sign for Cocktail boys (even though cocktail boys was originally across the street in the previous Top Man location)

My memory was that Murteys was Mutleys and was in Pattaya soi 15, near smiling boys Gogo?
It was a beer bar style host bar

Halcyon
June 27th, 2021, 17:06
These two bars from the list are mixed up in the comments.

Murphy's Magic City Boys = Magic City Boys on Sunee Plaza 1 (opposite Rainbow Bar) closed

Muttley's Bar on Pattaya Thai Soi 14 Moo 10 (103/6) closed, as in one of the books I read but it could be Mutley's with one T.

And about the Love Club: that was more of a karaoke and I don't mention karaoke's as they were more for Thai gays or only Thai gays with hesitating foreigners :D

How does this compare with straight venues, I wonder? And with gay businesses across the world?

A very sad state of affairs for those who came in the 90s and before then. But Pattaya itself is unrecognisable in other ways. I recall that on my first visit, the newly-built Royal Garden only had two floors open. And now? Soon the malls will outnumber the gay bars!

#1 Immediately pre-covid, there were still a vast number of straight bars in various parts of Pattaya. On and around walking street. On and around Soi Bukhao, including in many of the side streets in both directions off it. Also, in a couple of the streets directly north of Central Shopping Mall, there are streets which are full of straight bars. Even one of those streets seemed like it has well in excess of 50 bars.
I've no idea if they had even more straight bars 15 years ago, but struggle to imagine how this translates into downsizing like the gay scene.

#2 Royal Garden Plaza is rapidly reverting to half empty. Probably a combination of covid and newer shopping malls, like Central or Terminal 21. The more Northerly Mikes seems to have downsized back to operating on one floor. Harbor Pattaya (Sic) is half empty.

There were always much more girls bars than gay places in the beginning due to the soldiers serving in Vietnam and later due to the sex tourists. Only Soi 6 in North Pattaya had about 80 girlbars in just one Soi. And as for just the last lockdown of bars, many girl bars were doing business. In number maybe 8 times higher than the gay places. But for now all are closed, many serving other services in order to survive these Covid lockdowns of bars.

I'm not sure whether all this is relevant but there have certainly been some odd names for our beloved bars, though none I can recall quite as strange as Pikky.

goji
July 7th, 2021, 18:44
If there is loud music, I hope the punters stay away until they come to their senses and I hope it's behind a closed door, so the noise does not carry to the other bars.
If Jomtien really is zoned as "residential", as is often repeated, but never proven, then the one thing they should stop is loud music. Certain bars already have the occasional unreasonably loud party.

It proves that the Complex will open again fully when the restrictions are lifted. There will be shows in The Venue, M2M, The Palace, Dragon Music Lounge and then Dorothys.

They moved to the bigger unit opposite the street. Could not have been more than 10 meters away. The reason that they SEEMED to do so well, is because they paid the boys much more than the standard. If memory serves me right, it was 10k per month. They must have had 40 or 50 boys at the beginning and that brought in the customers. I use the word "customers" very loosely because most were literally sitting on their money.

That's a whole different topic, though.

goji
July 27th, 2021, 00:49
Wild West Boys at the end wasn't up to much. I hadn't been in there for a few years and one very short visit was sufficient to remind me why. A handful of mature guys on stage, at least one of whom looked about 40. I think they were even wearing jeans, but it really wouldn't have made any difference at all.

vnman
July 27th, 2021, 00:50

A cinema you say? Well, could be. I know Who Not as an extension from Blue Boy. Linked with an entrance at the Spuistraat and Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal. There was a bar with a separate entrance in the latter. They did have a theatre with shows and an SM attic. Dear god, why do I know these things :-)

Hahaha, that trick. I fell for that once in a gogo in Bangkok. DJ station had not yet expended to the opposite side and this gogo bar opposite had a separate entrace. We had to buy a drink before we could go in. That's what we did and once inside it was empty. 2 boys scrambled in onto the stage and that was it. Horrible...but we laughed it off en went back to DJ.

(mama) Lek has been running bars in Sunee for many years. Her last bar was opposite Double Shot. It must have been the old Yaya bar or next door. After he moved to JC, I stayed in Howard's, a few times, never really liked it but it was convenient. I often dropped in to see Monty in his place in JC ,The Enchanted Hut or something, it wasn't the same. Later visits it was usually an apartment in one of the View Talays. But thanks Halcyon.... a fascinating review . Many memories recalled..

I remember sitting in Windows (a cafe/restaurant) in HCMC, Vietnam with a good friend. This place was frequented by gays just like many other bars, clubs and such in the city. It must have been the middle of 2000 and Bluetooth was becoming popular. You could use your Bluetooth to contact boys who were near you but it would always be a shot in the dark. So we were discussing how great it would be to be able to... (well, from this point, we were basically describing apps like Romeo, Hornet, blued etc.)

I wonder how many people have been hoping for such technical possibilities and are cursing it now, just like me.

Castro in Boyz Town is renovating. That's good news. It means that it looks like that at least the first Soi will be opening again after the lockdown, which seems to last a long time. I can't find any official statistics for Bangkok but I would be hugely surprised if the city is anywhere close to 70%. Even 30% for those with two doses seems extremely high. Bear in mind that many of the early vaccinations, especially for front line workers, were of Sinovac and these people now need another jab of a different vaccine. But I hope I am wrong.

@home bar in the Complex is waiting to open and are serving coffee and other non-alcoholic drinks despite rumors that it would shot down. Zak, the owner, looked great this morning. It seems that there will be an end to the lockdown of bars in the coming month or months but at least before the New Year. Hope is there. But as we all now the rules can change here by the minute.

The new Dragon Music Lounge in the Complex in Jomtien will have a soft opening on 15 October from 16.00 till 22.00 hrs. There will be music, food and non-alcoholic drinks. Hopefully on the 1st of November we will see a full opening without curfew and with alcoholic drinks.

Their Facebook website does emphasise it’s a gay bar. However, the entry dated 16 June says “ Dragon Music Lounge, Dragon Man Club, and all our local partners and friends can't wait to see you”. That doesn’t bode well . . .

. . . Maybe this subject should have its own thread?

A copy of post # 141 together with several other posts have been moved within the Sawatdee Gay Thailand forum and given the new title, Dragon Music Lounge.

From the list I posted, most is going on in The Complex. The following bars are open for a drink and some have food as well. Add Home Bar, Bubu Bar, Dick's Cafe, Dragon Music Lounge, Divarium / QM2, Question Mark, Gaga, The Palace and a new name on the block is MP Meeting Place. Another new name is YOYO it's the first bar on the left when you walk in from Thappraya Rd. The street itself looks more tempting than in the last year as more lights are on in the evening. Also restaurants like Yupins, Dolce Vita are open while Poseidon is renovating now but will open soon. The massage shops like Soda Massage add to the lights.

I have to add to the list, going there tonight, Adonis Bar, Lucky Bar, Guy Guy Bar, Cocka 2 Bar, Art Cafe and for cheap food Soda Food. It's really getting more like old times and Sun Bar, Dorothy's Show Bar are just on the edge of opening. It was not really busy but most enjoyable .... finally :))

I was yesterday around and while Boyz Town and Sunee are still almost dark, The Complex is vibrating, most venues are open to serve you. Many new names for old bars. More smiling boys around than in the last year and while the number of boys and foreigners is still not what it used to be, the percentage is the same. Fun nights are here again. Halleluja :drink:

My last update of the list was in last June. In the meantime changes were made and till today the full list is 444 gay places. But no use posting yet, because after 10 days of a kind of open, all is closed again, probably till at least 16 January. As soon as bars are allowed to open I will give you the full list and the gay places that are open. But still got some memories from the last century.

Update on the current situation as on 15th December: in the Complex almost every bar (including 4T bar that was supposted to be closed) is open and serving alcohol (with an easily obtained restaurant certificate) and it was the busiest day of the year till now. The Venue is sold, but some boys were rehearsing, so the show must go on. Sunee Plaza was dark except for Winner Boys gogo with boys around. Boyz Town was also dark and empty. Pikky's Pub has not taken over Cupidol as I mentioned earlier, it has taken over Oscar's next to Serene Bar. By the looks of it all once the lockdown on gogo's is over there will be: Winner Boys gogo, N'Boys gogo, X-Men gogo, Cupidol gogo, Dream Boys gogo, A-Bomb and Boyz Boyz Boyz.

Happy to say that I can add the word OPEN to many bars on my list. As for now tonight not only most bars in The Complex are open but also in Boyz Town that is Panorama, Pikky's Pub, X-Boys, Castro and Boyz Boyz Boyz will open their doors. So at the moment about 20 bars will welcome you :clapping::))

Just so everyone knows, the Gogo bars I've seen are open for outdoor bar service, not Gogo. I'll be pleased to be corrected or updated on that.

DD Inn looks like a lady bar these days, at least when I have been past in the late afternoon. Or have I not looked closely enough ? (Not that I would want to)

Some of those maps I recognize as being from OUT in Thailand (numbers in dots of different colors). I think OUT in Thailand always had publication year and month printed, but some of the other gay magazines had not and you have to do detective work to date them!

OUT in Thailand had inaccuracies in their maps. Some were pointed out by readers and hopefully corrected in further editions.

OUT in Thailand was one of the better free gay magazines IMHO. It was published by a guy in Chiang Mai and he was able to get some very good exclusive interviews, as with Sir Ian McKellan. It ceased publication when he left Thailand for reasons which I have never seen explained. Many of the old copies can be seen on this site -

https://issuu.com/out-in-thailand

As for maps, I remember there was quite a debate at the time Christianpfc mentions, especially about the difficulty of keeping maps up to date unless the publisher has a small army of volunteers obtaining and checking that information. That's impossible, in my view. Maps in freebie magazines can only be be regarded as giving approxmiate locations, the more so when the venues themselves frequently had very general locations on their websites. All the freebie mags had the same venue location issues. It would have been a different matter if such publications had to be purchased.

But the various freebie magazines catering to the English-Speaking market seem to have gone the way of the dodo.

Yes there was, I think the most heated debate took place on then gaythailand (now gayguides). OUT in Thailand asked readers to update his maps, whereas the normal tourist would take the maps for guidance. Not so much locations, some maps in gay magazines list places that are long out of business.

A friend one brought a newly bought Spartacus, let's say the 2014 edition. The data was researched in 2013, and half of the places moved or changed name or went out of business when I read the Spartacus Thailand section in 2014.

Internet used to have more accurate information (because more recent) than books, but now in Covid times, things change even quicker than internet can follow and before I go somewhere, I call or ask a friend who is nearby to see if the place is open.

Many of the guides published on paper or the internet end up out of date very quickly. That's probably due to the short life of many businesses. Sometimes combined with people losing interest in maintaining their website or publication.

Google Maps can be better, however even they foul it up. For instance, Panorama is showing as temporarily closed. I suggested an edit, including a photo of it open, taken on my Android device. Google even ought to be able to detect that customers like me have used the bar from their phones. They still have not changed the status to open. Whether or not they accept my edits seems to follow some kind of random process.

There are also strange examples of businesses moving location and not updating Google maps. e.g. C and B barbers moved from Thaniya to Patpong. They didn't update their location and eventually I did it for them.

I actually thought that it was down the the business to log into their google account and update their opening and closing times, I wasn't aware that the public could do that ? On the flip side I moved premises and it took googles literally YEARS to accept our new location details. Annoying they also then moved it so some other random ( incorrect) address and it took us another load of months to get it shifted again "as I couldn't offer evidence of being located at the wrong address " - which of course was the whole issue in the first place !! So, yeah google maps, very hit and miss and I certainly never reply on ONLY their "opening hours' advice if specifically travelling somewhere because of that.

It's very hit and miss.
I very easily managed to move the Cupidol location from the previous site to Boyztown and managed to do some similar tidying up in the area.
They also quickly marked a coffee shop as closed in Hua Hin, after I sent a photo of it deserted.
I've even added some businesses.

On the other hand:
I totally failed to get "Classic Boy Bar" removed from the map in Pattaya.
I visited Bago in Myanmar and the Google coffee shop suggestions were shacks with no sign of a coffee machine. I tried to add the only 2 coffee shops I could find, with supporting pictures and it didn't work.

If Google had some proper algorithms for recognising genuine edits with GPS tagged pictures on an Android devices, they would have much more up to date maps.

(Slightly off topic, I widened my driveway a few years ago. I'd like to claim that was done before the building regulations changed to include such things, but Google maps has a dated street view photo that disproves this)

Im still in touch with him, he's doing great, he opened a papaya salad bar thing in Issan and it is / was doing very well it seems. I think he's currently in Bkk but that's maybe on a bit of a holiday break or whatever just, not sure - as with all Thai guys you never REALLY know whats going on with them either from their pics or what they choose to tell you ! :-)

On of my other Thai friends who lives in Europe with his (very rich) faring BF is currently in Bkk too just now on his own ( well aside from the several faring "friends" he seems to be joining for "drinks" every night ( cough cough) and is posting pics of his considerable amount of designer clothes and bags etc ( as I know was all purchased in Europe by his BF for him previously) and if you didn't know better you'd think he is in BKK buying up half the City and of course his Thai friends are now all commenting how jealous they are that he's now SO rich that he can afford so much shopping in Bkk ! ( if only they knew the truth that he's staging the pics simply to get that very reaction from them ! :-)

(Some) Thai boys CAN be SO shallow sometimes it seems :-)

I wonder if our straight friends feel the same about their bars?

A good question. When last allowed to open, earlier in 2021, at least the straight customers had a wide selection of bars, including gogo bars with full on nudity and beer for very reasonable prices.

In Pattaya, I think we were down to about 8 gay gogo bars pre-covid, of which, about 3 would be worthy of a visit. None would have full nudity and the moment they reopen after COVID, they try to fob us off with lads in jeans, or even fully clothed boys.

It's been years since we're had a full scale gogo bar with well groomed cute lads and so many boys that they require rotation. Funny Boys might have been the last, although Cupidol and Toy Boys were good, on their day.
The straight bar scene still had something equivalent in scale to to Funny Boys, with the added attraction of nude staff and cheap drinks.

Yes, but don't forget the off fees and expected tip are much higher.

After my first few visits to Pattaya I toyed with the idea of opening up a bar. Reality soon struck after chatting with Neil, who told me all the trials and tribulations involved.

I wasn't particularly interested in making a profit - although it would be nice to break even; I just thought it would be a lot of fun and I would have access to all the guys I could handle. Plus I had a few ideas I thought would work.

Sometimes reality just sucks. Lol

I just hope that after Covid becomes manageable, someone will re-start Eros and Goodboys.

That would do me!

Oh, that is really a long time ago. I just wrote exactly same to another poster who wondered about that name Why Not.
I sat in the tram with that conductor (must have been the 1 or 2). Have never ever been inside the place. But do know there is even a master´s sociology thesis written about how those gay brothels worked by an intruding lady. Had a few of such books but moved home some 2 yrs ago and threw them all away.
In the central public library in AMS, the big still fairly new one east of CS, beyond that Hilton HTL, on some floor is the gay&lesbian (of whatever the new name is this season) documentation centre where they keep about any scientific book about such matters. Cannot lend, but read on the spot.

I'm not sure whether all this is relevant but there have certainly been some odd names for our beloved bars, though none I can recall quite as strange as Pikky.
I recall The Mask in Bangkok,....perhaps a good name for our Covid-era. Something to do with that Jim Carrey movie, perhaps? I assume Sundance in Sunee also had associations with a famous film.
In my language that is quite an (still!) obscene word. Kids will be reprimanded if they use it the wrong way.
But not so much bars, but these massage houses: the BANK, AQUA, nr. 9 (no, not 69)
Above names: (old post of 5/7/21) Japanese its Kah-wah-ee!. Many bars seem to aim at a certain clientele, or perhaps the owner in the back end hails from there and then chooses a name fit for that. Confusions with other words are usually intended.
Banana in thai is kLuay. Kuay is the name for buffalo (a very common and loved animal by the ever shrinking nr of real farmerboys from Isany) and as its in thai so close to the dirty word for the male organ used as such.
For those wanting to see well equipped Thai: onlyfans, search for kuay-super. Has always 3 cockrings on his dong. Also on some poh-sites like xhamster and boyfriendtv

Update 14 March 2022. Here is the list of, in my opinion, every gay bar, boys A GoGo and gay showbar ever in Pattaya, Jomtien and Naklua. A total of 443 names and places. Where it says “might OPEN” (mostly A GoGo’s) or OPEN then have fun now or in the near future. The rest is closed now, some already many years ago and some only just. Through all those years many bars changed names because they had to close down or changed owners. Once a GoGo is turned into a bar or something else the place loses the right to be an A GoGo. No new licenses for A GoGo’s were issued for many years already. That is the reason why there are no A GoGo’s in the Complex.

1. 2 Donna Bar in the Complex between Soi 1 & 2 in front of the Venue
2. 360 Bar A GoGo (earlier the Python Club) from 2012 till 2019 in Boyz Town 1st Soi next to Dream Boys
3. 3BBB in the Complex (next to At Home Bar) closed in 2018
4. 4T Bar in the Complex for many years (next to Yupins Restaurant) is OPEN
5. 789 Dragon (down/upstairs) former Good Boys in Sunee Plaza 2nd Soi next to Sky Bar closed in 2019
6. A & Q Boys (later Akha Bar) in the Complex 2nd Soi (the longest Soi) closed in 2018
7. A Friend Club A GoGo (where Panorama Pub is now) in Boyz Town 3rd Soi (344/10)
8. A. Café opposite Kaos / Villa Rouge in Sunee Plaza 2nd Soi
9. A-Bomb A GoGo in Boyz Town 2nd Soi (325/75) might OPEN again soon
10. Adam & Eve on 2nd Road in Soi 2 (near Siam Siam Hotel) famous for its size of the building and boys
11. Adam & Eve House on the Sukhumvit (42/10) near the corner of Central Pattaya Road
12. Adonis Bar, a new bar in the Complex opposite Double Shot Bar near the beginning at Thapraya Road
13. Akha Bar was in the Complex in the 2nd Soi opposite Tappas East Lounge, it closed in 2020
14. All Boys which became later Playboy was in Soi Yensabai next to Thai4Life Books till 2004
15. All Colors a small outside bar in the Complex opposite GaGa Bar was short lived and gone in 2021
16. All of Me A GoGo in Sunee Plaza 1, the first bar next to the Marina Pool
17. All Seasons (became later Cruzz 101) in Boyz Town between the 2nd and 3rd Soi
18. Ambiance Hotel with the Oasis Coffee Shop in Boyz Town 3rd Soi next to Boyz Boyz Boyz is OPEN
19. Amigo A GoGo in the center of Sunee Plaza was replaced by Don Club & Hotel in 2000
20. Amor A GoGo in Boyz Town in 1991 opposite Boyz Boyz Boyz is now Cupidol
21. Angel Bar (later The Palace Bar next to Your Bar) in the Complex closed in 2019
22. Angel Café a new outside bar in the Complex opposite BuBu Bar is just OPEN
23. Apollo in Soi Yamoto on Soi 7 on 2nd Road is gone for a long time

Thanks and the provision of name changes is particularly welcome. For example, I remember Four Seasons well but Vibes less well . I hadn't realised they were the same bar.

The sad part is most of those boys were probably in Pattaya hoping to hook up with a sugar-daddy farang, even if it was temporary. Now I think it is likely every one of those boys ended up back on the rice farm.

If and when the bars reopen, I wonder how many might come back.

Maybe another way to meet boys would be to start visiting rice farms . . .

That may well be the case. However, I have posted before about a conversation I had with P on this very subject. He well remembers the Dream Boys crew of 2003 and was able to tell me the names of at least ten of his fellows who did find a LTR of sorts. There were some with whom he was still in contact via social media. And I've also mentioned before that I've met three of them with their partners in Pattaya within the last few years.

The update on 14 March is not going to be changed in the near future as the government decided not to give the green light for opening the nightlife and so the A GoGo's stay closed, nor they changed the closing times of venues. The official number of PCR tests that were positive today was about 27.000 as the positive ATK tests showed around 40.000. A very disappointing decision ..... again :boredom:

Here's a hisrotical question for Halcyon.
I was reading through one of my old journals from a decade ago when I came across a reference to a bar called City in Sunee. I well remember City Boys in Boyztown, later to become Gacuya, but I'd forgotten a bar of the same name in Sunee.

Is this the the "City Club" in you original list?

Halcyon
April 23rd, 2022, 14:39
The bar in Sunee was fully named: Murphy's Magic City Boys .... The City Club in my original list was the one in Boyz Town. The bar in Sunee is still there and OPEN but the name is now: Winner Boy Bar

I went to Boyz Town, Sunee and the Complex. Sad to see that Boyz Town and Sunee seem to have the same boys as a few years ago. On the other hand the Complex seems to attract a lot of new boys, the young and some older. The older ones don't last there for long and go probably back to building houses or whatever. But the younger ones seem to have a good number of customers and the atmosphere is lively in most bars. And as for the 1st of May rules to entree are minimal there will come more foreigners and with more foreigners ... more new boys will come ... that is how it was and will be :)) Before Covid there were many boys from other neighboring country' s but as I spoke to many .... at the moment most of the new boys are Thais.

Halcyon
May 21st, 2022, 19:19
In almost all bars in the Complex I see new boys coming ... many of them staying or will stay with a farang for the farang's holiday time or part of it ... so away from the scene for some time but they will be back ... Better than Sunee or Boyz Town where still the old crowd hangs around, boys and farang alike.

Two more bars opened on the long list of all bars ever in Pattaya. Making it 445 in total at the moment .... Jomtien 69 Bar. Just opened opposite The Venue and also JQK (Jack, Queen, King) between The Venue and At Home Bar and another bar is opening soon around the corner where 2Donna used to be. Don't know the name of that one yet. Let you know soon.

Looking through some old gay magazines picked-up in Bangkok (Max, Variety, Spice and so on), I came across advertisements for a gogo bar called "David" in Pattayaland Soi 1, circa 2012. The photo suggests that it may have replaced Sawatdee or perhaps Thai Boys.

Cross referencing it with the list on this site, I read the following....

"David Boys Bar before Gentleman Club was in the 1st Soi in Boyz Town in the middle..."

Are we talking about the same bar? David was certainly a short-lived contributor to the scene. Judging from the photos, cute guys though! Gentleman was from a different era entirely..

David bar was in the location that is currently occupied by X-Boys.
The gaudy fake Roman pillars and red curtains were part of the David theme

Halcyon

David and David Boys Bar were not the same. David Boys Bar was closed before the end of the last century. David might have been were X Boys is now. Couldn't and can't find David. Probably very short lived and I wouldn't be surprised if the owner of David Boys Bar moved to the place you mentioned under the name David for a short time, but if you know more, please answer.

June 11th, 2022, 21:15
I never entered David and, as I said, my memory was only jogged by that 2012 magazine. Colmx may well be right; he has more confidence than me in his recollections. I'd also suggest that the premises may have been associated with Star Boys when it moved from across Pattaya Second Road to Boyztown. I think that was a short-lived operation, too.

Halcyon
June 14th, 2022, 21:54
And again a new bar will open in the Complex as the ex-owner of Cupidol (Boyz Town) told me; and Cupidol will not open again, well at least not by the ex-owner. The new bar will be where Akha Bar used to be in the 2nd street of the Complex. The name is yet not known. It is supposed to open in the end of this month.

Below is a pic of Star boys when it was located in Boyztown (Pattayaland).

I thought it was Sawatdee Gogo that moved into that location after renovating the property and doubling its size. Nueng, who was the handsome and very charismatic mamasan of Star Boys took the position of manager of Sawatdee Gogo. This was back when Thai Boys Boys Gogo, Dream Boys, and Wild West Club seemed to be drawing the largest crowds on the Pattayaland sois.

The fact that the names and ownerships of these places were in a constant state of flux, coupled with the fact that this was two decades ago, I could be off on my recollections, but I seem to recall X Boys moving into the old Gentlemen's Club digs around the same time that Thai Boys Boys and Moonlight House (located at the end of the same soi - facing Second Road) closed.

Wonderful but painful memories.

I recall that in those days- the Golden Age- the soi, while not having the passing traffic encouraged by open host bars, was as much a hive of activity as Boyztown proper. In fact, once Cockpit closed- the place where I lost my Pattaya virginity- I spent more happy hours there than anywhere else. Out of bed, I mean. For one thing, there was a dearth of twink bars in BT where you could watch the "plooming"....to use arsenal's word.
And yes, the bars came and went at an alarming pace. But there were always plenty of guys for me.

Jomtien Complex, as discussed in the other thread.

M Bar is now open in the 2nd Soi in the Complex. And La Terrasse, a bar / restaurant in the Complex (part of the Dragon) didn't do well and will be replaced by a Girly Bar, called The Gents .... Yes, a Girly Bar in the middle of the Gay Complex. The idea is that the straight men from Bangkok who visit the Dragon Music Lounge especially in the weekend will go there for some satisfaction or for the straight boys who work in the gay scene in the Complex to get rid of their load .. of money.

I visited M Bar last night and it was good for a quiet drink in air conditioned comfort. They do have tables outside. What JC needs is a bar like the old scoundrel Monty used to operate when he set up shop in JC back in the day.

He had a good selection of cute boys lounging around on a bunch of mismatched sofas in a dimly lit room. Most of the boys wore very shear (see-through) speedo-style undies which commonly hit the floor when the drinks started flowing. They seemed to like stroking their cocks and licking their lips seductively whenever a punter entered the place... which was textbook "Monty".

No one could out-do Monty when it came to creating "sleaze". Long may he enjoy the peace - but resting wasn't his style..

Yes, the name of the boy bar is "Gents".

I stopped in a few nights ago and was surprised to see my old friend Som tending bar. Som was a regular of Forest House Bar in Sunee for years. Later in the evening a handful of other "Forest House" regulars appeared in all there glory.

I hope they can keep the wind in the sails.

The Dragon Music Lounge will be renamed to Dragon Dance Lounge. This month they will change seating, lighting and layout to make it. And the 3 top floors will be made to the Vibes Club and that will be the only dance club in Jomtien. The Dragon "Company" really seem to change their mind many times as the restaurant didn't work, Gents had few customers and the Music Lounge has only customers in the weekend, coming from Bangkok. I wonder how the Dance Club will do as most of the farang are too old too dance :yahoo_mini:

Andy
August 2nd, 2022, 13:13
As far as I understand, the dance club is more popular among local working boys, where they go to hang out together after work in bars. Previously, everyone went to party at the Nab. But Nab managed to work all night, which is clearly not allowed in JC. So the Dragon's business plan doesn't seem very clear...

Halcyon
August 5th, 2022, 10:58
I went to Sunee yesterday evening. Only 3 bars left: N Boys with 6 boys (they work there already about 5 years) and 1 other farang, then to One Bar with no boys and no customers. After to Winner GoGo Boys with 5 boys of which 1 new one and 1 other farang. A sad slowly ending of a once great Sunee Plaza.:cray_mini:

Oliver2
August 5th, 2022, 13:39
It is certainly sad, as is the inexorable decline of Boyztown which, incidentally appeared to me a few days ago to be part of a general deterioration in that part of Second Road judging by the number of boarded-up premises there. Including a 7 11.

For years, there have been too many bars with too few customers; and now too many "gay areas". With the JC expanding and offering a degree of vibrancy unwitnessed, at least by me, for years, I'd love to see the SP and BT bars try to find premises nearby and further enhance the "gayness" of the place. One gay area is enough.

And yes, I appreciate the go go bar issue in JC.

In the Complex the Sunbar, the part where the bar is, will stay. The other part is under renovation and will have a new owner and so will be a new bar. The name is yet unknown.

As Soda restaurant didn't work out so well, part of the place has been taken over by a new small outside bar in August 2022 called: Your Bar opposite B.N.Bar and it's OPEN

One Bar at Sunee Plaza will be closed soon. The Green Chairs, Winner Boys and Nice Boys are the only bars left then. Such a pity, once it was a marvelous place to go for a drink and a boy.

Sunee Bar in the Complex is new, next to The Venue. It is a small outside bar .... but too many like that opening now, especially because it is the lowest time of the low season right now and the coming month. I hope they all survive till the high season.

The Point, the first bar on the left entering from Thapraya Rd is now a boy bar while some time ago it was a restaurant and Adonis next to it is by some marked as a restaurant but has more available boys than ever, so I mark it now as a boy bar where you can get food also :))

The total list of gay bars / places in Pattaya consists of 454 now. I am waiting for the 2 more bars to come opposite Addhome Bar in the Complex and the start of the high season (probably October) to update the full list on this site.
