apologies in advance - there's almost certainly a thread for this but I couldn't find it
so mods, please delete this if necessary and point the way

meanwhile, I usually go to Pattaya for the girls or GGs but keen on spending a few days soon at Sunee or Jomtien
- I'm a bit concerned that Sunee is so quiet nowadays I may not spend much time there but anyway, could someone recommend a nice gay-friendly place, hopefully max 1,500/night, near Sunee or Jomtien Complex? I've started reading threads here and I seem to remember mentions of Yensabai Condotel and Zing? any thoughts?
thanks!

I read this with a certain incredulity. It must be the first time on this board that a straight guy (I assume you're straight) has asked for advice on a gay-friendly hotel.
GGs? Geisha Girls? Horses??

A hotel that may interest you is the Penthouse in Pattayaland Soi 2, owned by a pleasant fellow who stems from Wiltshire, UK. It is very liberal and very gay-friendly, albeit a hotel that is predominantly for straights.

Good luck, oh, and by the way, if by 'GGs' you do indeed mean horses then the lift at the Penthouse would not be able to cope, nor would the GGs be able to navigate the tight staircase. You could perhaps, with the assistance of a few muscle boys from BBB, hoist it up the outside of the building. And, you know what, no one in the Penthouse would bat an eyelid. In its heyday, all manner of creatures were brought in by the farang!

In fact, I horse around all the time in LOS.

So, bring it on!

Na Lonely. What's next, "Warking Strete"?

lonelywombat

I thought it was published as a reference .But with a mistake like that, one needs to ask what source he is quoting from. Did he make it up himself?

Surely he did not type all that in, when he could copy?

Oh, come on Lonely. Anybody who has spent some time in Thailand has seen the spelling 'bath' used in many places.

That doesn't make it right, but it's a common error.

francois

gerefan2, The currency of Thailand is Baht not Bath although many do pronounce it that way or even as Bat.

As for accomodations in Sunee Plaza area, there are Elephant Plaza Hotel right in the center of the action and Mosaic Apartments on the outskirts in Day-Night area.

I've stayed many times at the Elephant Plaza Hotel. Nothing fancy (on the contrary...) but the rooms are large and they are cleaned every day by the friendly ladyboy. The staff are very friendly, too. Just make sure you don't go anywhere near the sofa as it's filthy.

If you are going to spend most of your time in Sunee then you are right in the middle of the action, or what's left of it.

BTW, baht being written as bath is probably a result of auto-correct.

Of course I didn’t write the list. It’s a crib from another site. I’ve better things to do!

You often see the word “Bath” used in Thailand to describe a price, its not at all unusual as anyone who has been there will tell you!

Can't say that I've ever seen bath, even though I've been to Thailand a few times.

Spell-checkers don't recognize Thai currency and "correct" baht to bath (letter transposition is a common typing mistake).

bkkguy
January 9th, 2020, 18:25
it is usually not a spelling mistake or a typo or an auto-correction, is it a transliteration problem.

there are a number of different systems for transliterating Thai script into English, and different groups and even different government departments use different systems - hence the different spellings you see for many common words

in the currency case, the first consonant is usually always transliterated as b, the vowel as either a or ah, and the final consonant as either th or t - thus you can end up with b ah t or b a th depending on the system used. Baht is the most common (and more correct from a pronunciation point of view), but Bath is still frequently seen

A hotel named after its guests - how quaint! And right in the heart of Sunee...

Perhaps the bars should follow suit and call themselves The Nursery, Child Care-ss Centre and Bibs and Boys. Sunee needs to reinvent itself yet remain true to its spirit (jesus juice) and its core clientele.

Friends who've visited recently recommend Mosaik Apartments and Pius Place for proximity with Sunee Plaza. Both within your budget range and no problem with joiners.

For Jomtien Complex, they suggest short-term rentals of one of the View Talay apartments through

http://www.abc-pattaya-rental.com/menuang.html

Very prompt in their email replies apparently. My friend stayed in View Talay 5 and was very pleased with his apartment which was walking distance to the beach and Jomtien Complex.

I'm trying to work through this post to see if I have missed a subtle meaning but I keep coming back to the same conclusion. I assume it is a passing nod to the Sunee of many years ago and its problems, in those days, with the under-18s and gangs of youths chasing other gangs of youths along the sois during the infamous Yaba Wars.

Sunee has been a very different place for many years and whilst there are a few over-60s, content with the easier pace in Sunee these days, I cannot recall seeing any obvious under-18s in Sunee in the last ten years or more. The decreasing police and immigration activity in Sunee in recent years would suggest they concur.

Glad to hear the underage problem is a thing of the past. You only have to google Sunee Plaza to read about its sordid reputation. My friends and I bave only been to Double Shot bar, at least I think it was Double Shot. I did peek into some of the other bars but didn't feel comfortable going in.

Feeling comfortable comes with age and maturity, it's not for students. Age, barring bad luck is a given but maturity is not.

The one currently under internal exile and the one currently self-exiled are cases in point.

Where is the best place to stay in 2023? Do all hotels ask for IDs of guests ?

Define best-or simply re-read above. I noted some of the HTLs mentioned may even (claim to be) full on some busy days=limiting choice. IF you have never ever been here and only used to OZzie stdd: OZzies often complain 1st time about things they are used to and lacking out of that continent.
No, not each&every place will ask to show-or even keep ID-but then again: do not fret about that, they also will do that with Thai ladies and in the views of Thai this is a very sensible precaution-and also for you to sift out underage! All the guys will be pretty much used to it-much more as you seem to be. But here in TH even in normal daily life showing ID is pretty common anywhere.
A minor specific prob for Pty may be that quite a few guys are non-Thai now and may be slightly semi-legal in TH-overstay, nonregular entry or whatever. No idea how widespread that is.
