Did you know that flying foxes gather in all-male groups to lick each other’s erect penises? Me neither. It’s a piece of trivia in the opening paragraph of an article in the latest Economist about how pervasive same-sex sexual activity is. The conclusion of the article is that, as it’s so prevalent across all animal species it’s remained as an evolutionary habit because sexual activity is such a “low cost” pursuit.
