I am back from my first Bali trip, during the first two weeks of February 2019. I have only just manage to get the time to write this trip report.

Our flight was with Qatar Airways from the UK via Doha, with a total journey time of 19 hours, including a one hour change. 19 hours was a bit off putting, whereas Thailand is about 14 hours.

Bali was very enjoyable, nice island, nice people, nice food, very cheap, nice weather (between 31°c to 34°c), very humid and great sex. It rained during the night time on most occasions, and sometimes during the day, as it was pointed out to us that its still their rainy season, although this did need effect our trip one little bit. We did a day trip to Ubud visiting the rice fields and water falls which was nice, and we also visited five different beaches on the East, South and West of the Island on different days.

Because of the rainy season, the beaches on the western said of the island were dirty because of the onshore winds deposits flotsam and rubbish. We were told during the dry season, it is not like this. So on a few occasions we venture out to the beaches on the Eastern and South side of the island, which were nicer beaches without rubbish, but more hotel resort with private beaches, where locals not allowed on. We perferd the beaches where the locals are allowed on and one can see the local talent.

Bali's tropical monsoon climate has two distinct seasons: dry (between May to September) and wet (between October to April). Monsoon refers to the wind, not the rain. However even in the wet monsoon, in this tropical paradise it is still likely it will be sunny for a good part of the day. April to October is the best time to visit Bali, when there is little rain and low humidity.

Our 3 bedroom villa with pool, rented via Airbnb was the best accommodation we have ever stayed in during all our travels and was very enjoyable. We were about 6 minutes drive by taxi to the bars and only 10 minutes to the beach. We used the Grab Taxi App to order the taxis, which we used to go everywhere as it was extremely cheap, and we ended up tipping the drivers very good tips.

Our first night getting a taxi on the street to go back to the villa after the bars, they tried to overcharge us by over 80%, and they did not want to put the meter on, saying its "night time". All we did was get out of the car and move on to the next car, then the driver from the previous car will say "ok you say how much?", but we did not take that taxi for trying to overcharge us. Then we started using the Grab App from then onwards, as the prices, destinations and pick-up points are all already set, so no arguing or negotiating needed with the drivers. If you do decide to take a taxi from the street, before getting inside, ask the driver if he has meter? And ask him to put it on, or just walk away.

Now the bit you've been waiting for - Sex. Well if you are a Caucasian or in my case a black person, you will be inundated with offers of free sex all night long. There are also loads of MB's too. Everything is on tap. Non-stop action. I had to turn off my mobile phone most times as the gay apps like Grindr, Hornet, Jack'd, Blude and Planet Romeo were receiving non-stop messages of offers for free sex and meet ups. At first Grindr did not work, (blocked by the Government) so you need to download an VPN to access it. I did this while in Bali. Its easy, just Google VPN and download. Then I had Grindr up and running again.

Even if you are an older gentleman they still want to have sex with you for free. All they want is for you to buy them drinks. They all have jobs. And some even want to spend the night with you. I told some that I only want short time fun, and would pay a grab taxi for them to get home. I perferd this, as I can sleep better. I also had guys messaging me that they saw me with my friend eating in a restaurant as they walked passed or saw me in the bar.

My friend (age 75) who was with me had guys asking him for sex and no charge at all. They just love Western guys! We did have some MB's, as well as free fun too, a mix of both I will say. MB's were charging 300,000 Rupees, which is £16 (British Pounds), or 667 THB (Thai Baht). We found most of the guys, both paid/unpaid were mostly vers, so they enjoy fucking and being fucked. Most had cut small to medium size cocks, but if you're a size (queen), you can get, but need to look. Most MB' are from other Islands like Java or Sumatra. And all speak English.

There are only four gay bars with only two main ones worth visiting - Mixwell Bar and Balijoe Bar with the former being the biggest with the youngest crowd and both bars are packed every night with plenty of good looking guys where one can get company should you wish for, and in my experience unpaid too. There are of course MB' about too, but mostly on the app's. The bar we found the best was Mixwell Bar. The cutest guys were there. We were not so keen on Bailjoe Bar. So we went everynight to Mixwell. Best time to get there is around 12 midnight, and bars closes at 3am. They have nightly go go dancers dancing on the bar, and some drag shows on stage. This is no Bangkok or Pattaya were there are loads of bars, just a row of four bars. So if you are a bar person, you will/may get easily bored just visiting one bar everynight. Although just one good bar, I got propositioned every night by MB's or by locals just looking for free fun.

Because of all the non-stop action, unfortunately we completely did not get time to visit any of the massage places. Such a shame as I guessed there would have been some nice guys there?

Bali is an incredibly cheap island and the most expensive thing was the drinks in the bar. A large Bintang bottle beer cost £3.78 (British Pounds) or 155 THB (Thai Baht). Still cheap though. Food, shopping and taxis were very cheap. Two sun loungers, and one parasol cost 100,000 Rupees = £5.40 (British Pounds) or 220 THB (Thai Baht).

The only thing to put me of a bit was only one bar being the best, the long flight and the beaches being a bit dirty, although we did go during the rainy season. There are no gay beach as such, but this did not put us off. Would I visit again? Yes, but not in the near future. I would say Thailand has more to offer in terms of bars, but Bali is a wonderful Island and a lovely place to visit or try. And makes a change visiting Thailand all the time. I made some nice friends and we have been keeping in touch. Bali is also a very safe place to visit. Did not see any Police whilst we were there.

Great report Blacktouch, you and I shared very similar experiences and feelings of Bali it seems. I'm pleased to report that you're right in that those "dirty" beaches ( jetsom and flotsam) are indeed cleaned and prinstine again just a few days after a big storms and the government do in fact pay contractors to make sure that happens it seems. Like yourself I was a bit horrified at the state of one beach after a (big) storm and had never so much washed up trees and branches ( just makes you realise what a big ocean it is out there !) but I was amazed to return just a few days later to a total different sight and one of a nice holiday brochure style quality beach view.

Your experience of the bars and the guys there in and re them ALWAYS being up for it with you having to turn your phone off etc, is EXACTLY my view and experience of the place too and I was actually glad to read your thoughts there as a few people had told me they'd had a very different experience when there and I was starting to think I dreaming !

Re your Bali is safe etc.......well, like all tourist places on the surface and at a quick glance I would agree with you re that and it's certainly safe when out walking about at night etc, however like everything in life once you start to scratch beneath the surface there are plently of examples of various types of skullduggery going on ranging from drug issues to local low grade homphobia etc - BUT for a quick holiday none of that is overtly obvious and nor should it be particularily worried about, unless one is thinking perhaps of moving there on a more longer term basis maybe.

But yes Bali agree is a lovely place and would also recommend those who haveen't tried it pop over for a quick visit as the change from BKK / Pattaya etc I found very refreshing.

Hey Blacktouch, While you were in Bali, Did you use the Local SIM for your mobile phone? If yes, which company did you use? which company offer the best deal ? hope you can share more information about mobile usage in Bali, Thanks.

Hi YNOT555, I did not use any local SIM, as was only there for 14 nights, and all the locals called/messaged me on WhatsApp.

I always swap over to a local Sim when there, so much easier ( and cheaper) -Sorry I cant remember the name of the SIm brand I bought, the reason being it didn't really matter that much - from memory there only were 2 or 3 options and more people instantly used just two of those options anyway - so just go to any one of the many mobile phone top up shops / booths and they will sort it all out for you ( and install the sim, set it up and make sure you're connected). I usually bought the "holiday package" type 14 day Sim and then just topped it up by £5 or £10 if I needed too ( I used it for voice calls to the UK for work so used up quite a lot of data etc). But both the Sims and the data are very cheap there there so dont worry too much about it.

If you're in the Siminyak area there's a small but very able mobile phone top up shop located in row of shops that are in the Bintang Shopping Complex carpark ( situated opposite the food / burger stall that's located in the centre of the road there- who by the way sell the best burgers and milkshake anywhere !! :-), That shop always looked after me well and saved me money, whereas others could have ripped me off ( as I'd no clue WHAT I was buying) - but my Bali friends confirmed I'd always been given the most popular network so i'm happy to recommend them.)

Oh YNOT555 - and anyone else who's thinking of going to Bali - one thing - do NOT EVER use the local money changers - 99% chance they will skim money off your exchange and scam you - and they're damned good at it and no matter how hard to try and watch and count you'll not see it until you've left the shop and recounted your money outside - where it's too late of course - well, unless you go back inside and threaten to wreck their shop if they dont return your money, whilst leaving them a little something from the money they scammed from you for the pleasure / your stupidity so that they save face too perhaps. There are international exchange places dotted around the place and they are fine - use those ! You'll know the difference from the places offering you super great rates way above the norm and the other regular places just offering you slightly less than the interbank / XE rate etc - it's the old story, if somehting looks too good to be true it usually iS ! Dont let short term greed of a few extra Rupiah lead to you getting ripped off for a LOT of Rupiah !! ( and take that from someone who DID ! )

Contrast with Thailand, where I can hand over thousands of pounds in Superrich and know I'll get every single baht back.
It's always good to know about a few of the scams in any country, so they can be avoided.

Incidentally, I once pre-ordered forex for collection at Heathrow for a business trip & when counting the bundle before leaving, it was quite a bit short of the required amount. The rather dodgy looking staff corrected this.

Anyway, getting back on topic, what does accommodation cost there ? Can I get something OK for around about about 1000 baht, just like Pattaya ? (e.g. Mosaik).

Yes no problem, lots of GREAT places to stay, lots of Villas too if you want to splurge a bit - but if not yes plenty of very low, low, medium and high end stuff all over the place.

Heres a start on booking. com if youre thinking of staying in the Seminyak area.....;personally I've stayed at Horrison ( NOT HARRISON THERE ARE BOTH) and it suits me fine - standard hotel room and 5 minutes from the bars and from the main double 6 beach - also all the guys there tend to know it and it's fairly central for them for paying a visit :) and also close enough to nip out fo the bar and back again without being noticed ( or your friend being noticed) even being gone if required :-) Theres also a handy underground car park which means I can park my bike with friend en tow, go up the back stairs to my room totally unseen and unhindered 24.7 - oh and fairly cheap too depending when booking......works for me anyway, I've also stayed in money other places there with mainly all with good reports for them too so you'll not be stuck as long as you chose somewhere that meets YOUR needs, whatever they may be.....

Gr8 Topic, I'm Amazed Blacktouch flied 19 hrs from UK to Bali yet Bali is just in my backyard ( 5 hrs ) fly and I never bothered travel to Bali, it maybe because my first oversea trip was Thailand, I was hooked to Thai boys  then I discovered the Philippine :yahoo_mini: " It's more fun in Philippine" ( Their slogan ), Pinoy Boys are as good as Thai boys in bed without communication problem, Now I think I will give Bali a try, just for the weekend, evening flight after work, arrive there midnight, hook up MB to get a hard rough pounding, repeat sat & sun, early flight back home on Monday , back to work @ my Arvo shift, wow I'm Horney just thinking about it:D:yahoo_mini: So any tips about sex with MB are WELCUM :devilsh:

So any tips about sex with MB are WELCUM :devilsh:

Well my first tip re that is to not even bother thinking about MB's ie about Paying for it ! And by that I mean there's honestly no need and I'm actually loathe to see hordes of Pattaya trained and boy beaten hardened farang turning up and trying to flood the guys there with their 1500 short time "rules" thinking they're doing great etc as assuming you're not 90, with one leg and have rabies the place is wall to wall with locals who just actually and genuinely WANT to sleep with you / a Bule ( their word for farang) or FUN ( so unlike Thailand) and NO fee is required ( again unlike Thailand).

Whether we like to admit it or not the pattaya boys play most of us like violins and THEY dictate the terms and make us pay for the pleasure ( one way or the other) however Bali is the EXACT reverse, YOU are in control of the shagging action there and whilst if you want a quick MB action then why not and you can, but as you'll see when you arrive it's just not necessary and I've regularly spent a month there and not needed to spend a penny and trust me no one was unhappy with that on either side. And for those who might complain about "so unfair, not playing our side of the game etc" that's EXACTLY what I mean it NOT being Pattaya and how feel it's so sad that some have been conditioned to assume we MUST pay for sex when travelling as I assure you thats NOT always the case - and Bali I find is one of the wonderful exceptions.

- If your plan IS one of shagging as it seems to be ( great plan but the way there) just cut to the chase and stay somewhere close to Bali joe bar area in Seminyak ( again that Horrison hotel above I mentioned or any / many in that area will suffice). Then head to the few gays bars mentioned above, plus do download and use that VCN also mentioned above to help access Grindr etc ( some hotels wifi does pass the need for a VCN etc depending where their router points too but in the bars etc a VCN is a good idea/ requirement), do that and I assure you you'll have action from the minute you land until long after your flight leaves to return you home.

oh and freaky has a point re the Volcano, it's quiet just now but two out of my last 3 trips have involved some drama ( for Aussies mainly) getting home and back to work - thankfully as I'd booked a long trip I was able to lie on the beach and watch them running about panicking every day - so if being at your desk is CRITICAL at a certain time do just check the status of the volcano before heading off perhaps and make your decision then - but it should be fine.

NG, you are talking about VPN right?:D:D
YEAH!! Action is what I'm after, I want it and I want it NOW!! Seems like I'm beating around the wrong bushes, heaven is just a stone throw away from my backyard, will do a short trip to check it out first, May planing for a longer trip in the future, I did check out the Horrison hotel, really nice , Thanks for the recommendation.
Actually I don't mine if the Volcano eruption happened when I'm there, its going to be all over the news on TV here, The authority will stop flight in and out to Bali, just give me excuse to have more time to explore Bali's gay scene, The Boss might not be happy but you just can't fight Mother nature :dirol_mini:

Thanks for posting such a great trip report Blacktouch. It was jam packed with heaps of useful information for anyone thinking of holidaying in Bali.

And thanks also to NIrish-guy for posting additional information based on his several trips to the island. Again, oodles of valuable information for anyone considering a vacation in Bali.

But I cannot end this post without commenting on the following:

. . . I've regularly spent a month there and not needed to spend a penny . . .

Wow! That’s truly impressive NIrish-guy. You must possess a cast iron bladder if you never needed to spend a penny (https://www.thefreedictionary.com/spend+a+penny) for a month! Blimey! That's absolutely amazing, I can only dream of such bladder control. ;)

If the volcano does decide to interrupt your plans and you need to return home by a certain date, then you can always make your way to Jakarta and fly home from there.

Hang on, I never said I had bladder control, just that I hadn't spent a penny - the trick - pack three pairs of the following - no need to spend a penny anywhere and all fluids contained until you're back home - the height of efficiency, a time AND money saver all rolled into one and just requires wringing out each evening and hung out to dry.......to be fair you may see a slight decline in the number of guys trying to hook up with you as the trip goes on but hey, just remember all those pennies that you've just saved ! :)

Reading all the above I decided to use my miles with Thai Airways and make a 4 days trip to Bali. I'm 67 and live in Jomtien. And I am NOT native English speaking.
When you arrive in Bali, avoid the hassle in the arrival hall. Take the lift to the departure floor and grab a metered Blued Taxi for around 100 K.
I booked the Courtyard by Marriott in Seminyak for 4 nights. Watch a Video on You Tube. Fantastic breakfast buffet. Joiner friendly. Superb location. Shuttle to the private beach. Strong Internet. Just perfect.
As recommended in the threads above I downloaded Grindr. And Yes then it started. Within a couple of hours more then 100 members watched my profile and about 20 send me a message. One example: him 25 years 1m67cm: "Hi how are you?" Me: "fine thank you and you?" He: "I'm good and very horny, I can stay with you all night" Me: " How much you want" He: "400 K". Me: "OK you can come". Within 10 minutes he arrived with his motorbike and I had one of my best nights of my life. And I'm sure he would also come for 300 K. But why discuss for just 7 dollars.
I went only once to the gay bars. They are so overcrowded that I drank only one beer there and went to other places. But I think when you are younger than me, this bars could be real fun.
There is also a big choice of good restaurants nearby and I appreciated that most of the people speak very good English.
And when you come from Thailand you will certainly like how friendly everyone is with you.
