Foreigners now need to keep 800k in Thai bank for three months AFTER retirement extension is granted.....

"
The new requirements are likely the result of immigration officials trying to put an end to the practice of visa agents falsifying bank statements for foreigners who do not have enough money to meet the financial requirements needed for a retirement extension."

https://forum.thaivisa.com/topic/1081671-foreigners-now-need-to-keep-800k-in-thai-bank-for-three-months-after-retirement-extension-is-granted/The reason is pure speculation and assumes a rational basis for anything Thai Immigration do. The new regulation seems to be saying that the retiree must keep 400,000 baht in the bank at all times, and when he applies for his annual extension there must be 800,000 baht at least two months before and three months after the application date. To put it another way, 800K for 5 months then 400K for the other 7 months. I wonder how many retirees can afford to keep 400K permanently locked up in a Thai bank account. This change is an echo of the failed 10-year "medical" visa where the applicant has to have 3 million baht on application but could then subsequently withdraw half. Frankly if someone can afford to keep 400K in the bank permanently they may as well go for a million baht 20-year Elite visa and be done with it

My speculation is the requirement for 400,000 baht at all times is instead of demanding retirees have medical insurance
