German smorg? Oh my god, tell me this is some kind of joke. Those photos are the most abominable, unhealthy, stick-to-your-arteries, surround-your-heart-with-fat, brain-killing, obesity-bound munchies that I've ever had the joy of witnessing a gang of massively overweight Germans in the throes of constant regurgitation.

On the other hand .... Trump would love that ghastly shit.

Why are Thai’s, and now some Farangs, so obsessed by food that they have to take photos, and now videos, of every meal they eat and put them on the Internet?
Do you see this anywhere else in the world?

Perhaps I am missing something, but I cannot understand why people would eat German food in Thailand.

Thailand has some of the best food in the world, along with Japan, Korea, Italy, and France.

I have never enjoyed German food in Germany or Switzerland, and would certainly never eat it in Thailand.

But I suppose food tastes and boy tastes vary a lot.....

There is nothing in those photos which I could eat.

When in certain European countries - Germany, Holland and eastern European countries - I soon end up desperately looking for an Asian restaurant.

I've tried many times over the years to get my German friends to try Vietnamese food (when I can actually find a restaurant!) but to no avail. I tell them about the delights of all those different herbs and spices - lemongrass, coriander, kaffir lime leaves, galangal, etc - but I find in just wasting my breath.

As for chilli, forget it! I always travel with a jar of dried chilli flakes.

I've had some interesting experiences in France when I sprinkled my food liberally with the flakes. On one occasion a waiter reported me to the kitchen and the chef came out and berated me!

To each his own.

Allthough there might be a miniscule tinge of nutrional goodness in German cuisine ("cuisine" used as a very low bar) one must understand that this awful reputation is all Hitler's fault.
Why you ask? Appently one of his bootlickers wrote a book on Der Führer and leaked out that his favourite food were cream puffs. Eaten with every meal. The writer was strangled some months later, but his revelation carried on.
Le Cuisine de Deutchland has been a disaster ever since ... fodder-wise. They certainly know how to construct great autobahns though.

Now .... let's discuss Russian food.

But Jamie Oliver in the school canteen series was so cute.

To me, mobile phones at the dinner table are far worse than food porn. My dad forbids it and my grandma is sure to pass a sarcastic remark if anyone is tapping away on their phone while we're having a meal together at home or out.

Actually she'll be 77 in less than a couple of weeks. She was born in a remote part of Malaya during the Occupation and her birth date wasn't properly recorded. It was only after the Japanese surrendered to the Allied Forces in 1945 that her birth was properly registered and her birth year was recorded as 1942 although my grandma has always insisted that she is a year younger. As her birth month and date were not recorded, we usually celebrate her birthday on Chinese New Year eve in accordance with our belief that our age changes with the changing Zodiac.

Well, if you look at this recent photo of Singapore celebrity photographer and model, Chuan Do, you'd believe that we Singaporeans have been drinking from the fountain of youth because he's 52! Delicious from top to toe. Nirish, I'm sure you look much better being two years younger.

Well of COURSE, that goes without saying, hell I looked in the mirror on hitting 50 and found myself to still be an absolutely ADONIS no less ! I mean my GOD I just HOPE I don't age as badly as that guy or I'll be SO upset as us white guys are so well known for our good genes and ability to age well, hell you only have to walk up and down the street in Pattaya to see fine examples of what I mean every single day no less ! Over 50, all in top shape, muscled, toned bodies to die for and hard cocks like a busy cement trucks drip tray no less !

( My god I'd be happy if even just ONE of the above were true......alas......I fear not ! :)

I don't look at Facebook so I can't comment on whatever else Jim may have posted. If you do like German food then, for the gay area in Bangkok you needn't go past G's in Silom Soi 4. I eat German food quite regularly when I'm in the land of the mad kings (Bavaria)

Oh, are you writing a sequel to your fictional upcountry visit report where, contrary to Thai-Buddhism practices, the elderly, senior monk of the village comes to visit you alone, uninvited and outside of normal walkabout, alms-collection hours for no other purpose than to satisfy his curiosity and where he gladly accepts a 500 Baht tip from you?

Do you think it's due to genes or lifestyle? I think lifestyle plays a bigger part than genes. People who eat too much, drink too much, smoke too much, don't get enough sleep and exercise tend to look exhausted and worn out very quickly. I have acquaintances who live large, party two-three times a week, partake in chem sex and they look worn out despite hitting the gym regularly and having good bodies (coz they know they wouldn't get laid otherwise).

For someone so (preternaturally!) savvy about Thailand and its culture, you seem remarkably obtuse when it comes to acknowledging that not all Thai monks live up to the highest calling of their vocation, especially in out-of-the-way locations.

If you'd just cut the cute young Singaporean crap, which nearly everyone has long since seen through, your posts would be the better for it.

Oh dear, yet another attempt to use pomposity to camouflage intellectual dishonesty. This is not about monks living up to their "highest" callings but everyday ritual and customary practice in Thai-Buddhism. If you've ever spent any real amount of time in rural Thailand, you'd know that these senior monks are often revered, especially in out-of-the-way locations as you put it. If one wanted to see you he would've sent for you and the villagers would have made a lot of fuss cajoling and escorting the important man (as you clearly see yourself) to go meet the even more important man (the monk).

Unlike you, I can't and don't speak for everyone, but if you'd just cut this crap pretense of being some sage scribe and just admit to being yet another pie-loving, bar-stool expert/wannabe writer in Pattaya who indulged in creative licence in telling a story, your fiction would be the better for it.

It gives him away every time. Think someone might be boygeenyus? Make an obvious mistake of detail and wait for slapdown to occur. My suspicions were confirmed when I made an elaborate hoax post some time ago about how every person in a Thai family relationship was defined by a different Thai word; sglad was in like Flynn (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_like_Flynn) telling me how little I knew

Some other boygeenyus obsessions -

anyone can get a job in Thailand so boys don't need to rely on sex work
drugs are a criminal problem not a medical problem nor a symptom of a sick society
whatever the Thai government does, it's always right. At one stage he posted on ThaiVisa as Daffy Duck, always as a government (ie. Yellow Shirt) apologist
Thailand is no more corrupt that the Anglophone West
